Volume 4 Chapter 48 The Hive
The biggest difference between the second and first layers of the outer ring is the number of plants. The top vines that dominate one layer seem to be afraid of something, and they don't grow anymore after they reach the junction, as do the carnivorous plants on the other floors.
The plants on the second floor have been restored to their original ecological location – as food for the plant-eating animals, as well as providing oxygen and shelter.
The stone pillars on the second floor are larger than those on the first floor, but the gaps between them are larger, so on the second floor, large trees can already be seen growing between the stone pillars. Some of the older trees are even able to completely occupy the space between several stone pillars, making the space on the second floor a natural labyrinth.
However, this kind of maze is not too much of an obstacle for creatures that can climb trees, but it is a big trouble for Shi Leiyin, who can only walk on the ground at present.
Lacking confidence in his ability to recognize his way, Shi Leiyin chose a simple and violent method - cutting down trees to move forward.
Straight ahead, cut down the trees that stand in front of you, or use the electromagnetic cannon to drill through them. The reason for not choosing the electric plasma cannon was that Shi Leiyin was afraid that the high temperature would ignite the trees and cause a fire. Even though the vegetation on the second floor is not as dense as the first floor, the crowns of the tall trees are mostly intertwined, and if ignited, it is likely to burn the entire second floor.
Although it is said that once the intelligent Dhaka is found, the entire Boulder Secret Realm will be blown up, but causing a fire will not only affect the forward speed, but the smoke caused will also cause a loss of direction, slowing down Shi Leiyin's speed into the third layer.
Cutting a roadblock tree with an extremely thick trunk into a staircase, Shi Leiyin finally had a chance to look out over the entire second-story area from a high vantage point.
In addition to confirming the direction of his path, Shi Leiyin deliberately climbed to the top of the trees to find Dhaka's lair.
Dhaka's lair is easy to confirm - it is a large blood-colored orb, the size of which varies depending on the type and rank of Dhaka, but it can be at least ten meters in diameter. This height was close to the maximum height of the second-story trees, so Shrayin only had to climb to the top of the tree to easily spot the location of Dhaka's lair.
Luckily, after climbing to the top, Shi Leiyin didn't even need to look for it to see the top of the blood-red arc at the top of Dhaka's lair. Judging by the curvature of the arc, this is an extremely small Dhaka nest, with a diameter of just over ten meters below the minimum of the nest.
A Dhaka nest of this size will only produce up to three different Dhaka creatures - Blade Worm, Float Worm, and Butterfly Head Worm. And only the Blade Worm will appear in a small number of elite species covered in red.
However, while there will only be the lowest three types, the number is not necessarily the same. Dhaka nests are usually built near the nests of a group of organisms that reproduce quickly or in large numbers. By infecting a large number of these colony organisms, they are transformed into Dhaka organisms. Therefore, the number depends on the number and reproductive ability of the infected group of organisms.
In the labyrinth secret realm where Shi Leiyin was located, the creatures of Dhaka were infected with a nest of second-order ant-like creatures, resulting in an extremely large number of blade insects. However, also because the level of the infected creatures is too low, the result is that there are only sharp blade worms, not to mention elite level, not even sharp blade worms that have reached the fourth order.
The Dhaka nest that Shi Leiyin found didn't seem to be infected with a high level of creatures, at least Shi Leiyin didn't see the floating insects in the air near the nest.
The Aeronautical Worm is a low-level air unit of the Dhaka Creature that is primarily responsible for aerial reconnaissance and surveillance with its flight ability. It also has the ability to strike the ground and drop the Bladeworm.
A sporangia can eject four bladeworms onto the ground near itself by projecting sporangia. However, due to the extremely slow movement speed of the Floating Worm in the air, the Blade Worm is not only fast, but also able to climb trees and rock walls, so this ability is very weak. Unless a large number of floating insects appear together, it can only be food delivery.
After throwing the blade worm in its body, the floater can also attack ground units by diving. Similarly, because the Levitation Worm is extremely slow in the air, although it can reach a high speed at the moment of the dive attack, it takes a long time to regain altitude and find a suitable dive position again, and it also has a high chance of hitting the ground and self-detonating, so it is a negligible ability like the ability of the Airdrop Blade Worm.
More often than not, the Aerobug is still used as a detection unit near the Dhaka nest, or an important hub in Dhaka's biological control area.
The absence of the Floating Worm means that this Dhaka nest is not only weak, but also newly built. And it also means that such a Dhaka lair is relatively easy to attack.
The Dhaka Lair has a peculiar mechanism that accelerates the hatching of Dhaka creatures when threatened.
If the usual Dhaka nest hatches a blade worm at a rate of one per day, then once it is attacked and confirmed to be a threat, it is likely that a blade worm will hatch every ten minutes to participate in the defense. This special mechanic may not be very useful for small nests that only have Blade Worms or the basic three bugs. But it's terrifying for large nests that can produce large, war-specialized Dhaka creatures. At the beginning, the main hive of Dhaka in the demon world relied on this mechanism to withstand the extermination army sent by the surrounding demon kings and survived to this day.
Since the location of the hive was not far away, Shi Leiyin quickly approached the hive after finding the right direction.
This Dhaka hive was weaker than Shi Leiyin expected, not only was its size only up to the standard of a hive, but there were no ordinary creature nests nearby to provide soldiers. Shi Leiyin didn't even encounter a few sharp blade insects in charge of guarding during his approach.
This situation is recorded in the intelligence records obtained by Shi Leiyin. These nests are usually randomly released as a perimeter base for the main hive. The main purpose of its existence is to expand the area controlled by the main hive, and to speed up the return of information from Dhaka creatures who are out to explore.
However, this kind of hive usually has a floating insect as the main force of aerial reconnaissance, and there is no existence of floating insects near this hive, the biggest possibility is that this insect hive is really just completed, and the floating insect is the only flying unit among the units that can hatch in the low-level insect nest, and the hatching process has not yet been completed.
As if to confirm Shi Leiyin's suspicions, the Dhaka hive suddenly let out a tremble, and a black spore-like object slowly grew from the top side of the hive. Then it grows like a balloon into a cone-shaped capsule about three meters high and nearly one meter long and wide at the top.
Then, with a crisp cracking sound, a Dhaka creature with a round head and a pointed tail, a cone-shaped body, and several pairs of small transparent wings on its back, but it was a Dhaka creature floating vertically in the air with its head and tail under its tail that appeared above the hive.
