2. Chapter II
"Good morning, Mr. Xavier."
In the blink of an eye, the vision gradually changed from blurry to clear. He looked at the slightly unfamiliar ceiling above him for a moment, then relaxed and sank himself completely into the sun-smelling quilt again.
ββ¦β¦ Good morning, Jarvis. β
Slowly crawled out of bed, and slowly moved to the bathroom to take a shower. When West finally wakes up completely from his sleepiness, Stark's intelligent butler AI has thoughtfully pulled back the curtains for him, allowing the sunlight to pour completely onto the floor, sending a pleasant brightness to the entire room.
Familiarity ordered nachos and fried ham omelets from Jarvis. West walked into the kitchen, said hello to Bucky, the only one still there, and settled down on his breakfast. Maybe it's because it takes too much effort to get into a tantrum with Charles, and he's been waking up later than usual these days. But luckily, this is not Xavier's school, and he doesn't have to teach the children on time, let alone go on missions all over the world. Therefore, it seems that it is desirable to indulge yourself in a little laziness once in a while.
With his chin in one hand and a fork in the other, he absentmindedly poked at the golden egg roll, West's eyes narrowed, and the black stud in his right ear swayed slightly with his movements. Of course, this is not the first time he has come to the Avengers Mansion after a tantrum with Charles, and he also knows that as soon as he leaves the manor, Professor X will immediately search his brainwaves to determine his location. But a week later, from the time he stayed at the Avengers Mansion until now, Charles had not tried to get in touch with him in any way, and West felt that he was probably really determined to think about each other calmly this time.
-- To be honest, it was a bigger blow to him than the professor insisting on sending him to England.
In West's memory, it seemed as if he had never seen his parents in person. And because of the mutant relationship, the nursery teacher and the children in the orphanage all respect him and don't care much, and he has always thought that he is the only monster in this world.
Until one day, the young Professor Charles and another companion stood in front of him, so that he was finally no longer lonely. But because West was too young at that time, and their decisive battle with Shaw was imminent, they first went through the adoption procedures with the hospital, and agreed to come and take him away after the first battle.
There were two names on the adoption process, and West remembered them well. After Charles and Eric left, all his worries and hopes were tied to that thin stack of papers. Although they had only met each other a few times, West really liked them, and he even longed for how they would live together...... But sometimes, fate is always so dramatic and cruel. When West, full of hope, once again welcomed the person he wanted to see in anticipation, only the professor in a wheelchair came to fulfill their promise.
He didn't know if Charles ever resented Eric, maybe as the professor said, they just had different philosophies and therefore chose different paths, which was not right or wrong. But West felt that no matter how much the professor tried to defend Magneto, he still had a grudge in his own heart, because no matter how much the man wanted to stick to his own path and planned to establish a mutant kingdom by radical means, he should not have left Charles at his most helpless, leaving him in all the ill-intentioned temptations and fears.
And that's just the most inconsequential reason why West has been trying to trouble his other guardian for so many years.
"West?"
Probably I couldn't stand it, and this person gritted his teeth at the air inexplicably. Halfway across the table, Bucky, who had taken his last sip of milk, slapped West on the shoulder and pulled him out of his thoughts.
"If you don't like your breakfast, you should tell SΓΉ Jarvis early and he will prepare something more palatable for you."
With such sincerity, it is obvious that his companion's distraction is all related to the plate of broken egg rolls. West turned his head to meet Bucky's sincere eyes, admitting that he was not denying it, and he had to grin a little awkwardly.
"But you didn't wake up early today." Throwing the milk cup into the sink, Bucky turned around, "Do you want to go to the training room with me?" There haven't been any new missions lately, and Steve might be there. β
"Hmm...... Okay, I don't have much to do here anyway. β
Throwing away the fork, looking at the mess on the plate and having little appetite. Weskey nodded, deciding to put all the bad stuff behind him, and got up and walked towards the door
The moment he stepped out of the kitchen, as if remembering something, he leaned at the door frame and poked his head back into the door:
"Oh yes, forget jΓ¬, I really liked the breakfast, Jarvis...... I'm sorry I didn't eat them all. β
The intelligent AI answered him with a robotic arm waving up and down on the edge of the pool.
In fact, there was no need for West's explanation. Jarvis is an intelligent system created by Tony Stark that doesn't have any human emotions - like frustration over an unfinished breakfast. But for some reason, compared to other artificial intelligence I've seen, Jarvis always gives him the illusion that he is just as intelligent and emotional as humans.
Although, after a long time, it turned out that it was really not a whim illusion. But now, he really regrets why he followed Bucky to the training room to find Steve to pass the time on a whim.
β¦β¦ I should have known this was going to happen.
Staggering from under Captain America's feet, West felt like every bone in his body was broken.
"You're skilled in wrestling, Wei."
Standing in place relaxed, Steve took the towel handed by Bucky and looked the overly young teenager up and down in a bit of surprise:
"Generally speaking, this kind of conditioning takes many years to develop and requires a lot of practice...... You look like you're only seventeen or eighteen years old, which is logically impossible. β
"Huh...... I didn't sue you? β
Even more surprised than Steve. West's gaze roamed back and forth over the faces of the Captain and the Winter Soldier, and he saw that their expressions were indeed very confused, and he was finally sure that he might not have really talked to the Avengers about himself.
- After all, you didn't ask, so I can't be considered a deliberate concealment, right?
Thinking so helplessly, West stretched out his finger and pointed to his nose, and his tone was a little funny:
"I can't believe you never found out...... My own time is stopped, so my appearance will not change or anything, it will always be the way I was when I was seventeen. β
ββ¦β¦οΌοΌβ
Both of them were apparently shocked, and the water glass in the Winter Soldier's hand even accidentally fell to the ground. For a moment, they stood straight in place, as if they had never imagined that West had such an astonishing secret.
But fortunately, there are no normal guys in the Avengers Mansion, not to mention that there will be other aliens and mutants of all kinds from time to time. Therefore, superheroes have always had a high acceptance of this kind of thing. Curiously looking at West from head to toe again, the expression on Bucky's face was a little excited:
"So, you don't get old, is it related to your awakened mutant ability?"
"That's right...... But precisely, it's the price of competence. Smiling, West put the towel on the back of the chair beside him:
"All powers are not without limits, and neither are mutant superpowers. If the ability to use it exceeds a certain limit, beyond the range that you can bear, you will be more or less affected by some bad things...... I'm a good example of that. β
"I understand, it must have been painful."
Knowing that the mission of the X-Men was no easier than that of the Avengers, Steve was certainly able to easily hear the bitterness in West's words. Nodding apologetically, he observed the boy's face to make sure he was not averse to the topic, and then continued:
"So, it's convenient to tell us how old you should be?"
"This ......" stroked the bruise on his shoulder that had just been beaten, and West narrowed his eyes: "I've lived too long, I have to think about it." β
ββ¦β¦β
The captain and Bucky said they were suddenly a bit square.
"I'm kidding, don't be so nervous." Glancing at the expressions of the two men, West burst out laughing:
"I'm not as old as you...... However, there is no problem with Tony pretending to be an elder to educate him. β
"Hey! Don't put me in there! β
As soon as the words fell, Iron Man's dissatisfied voice came from the ceiling. Tony gritted his teeth as he watched the young old goblin smile and waved at the monitor, wondering if the guy had calculated that he was eavesdropping upstairs...... Bah! What eavesdropping, he just accidentally heard it when he turned on the PA system!!
"What's the matter, Tony?"
It's a little funny to watch West triumphantly tease Iron Man through the surveillance probe, Steve shook his head, and suddenly felt that he hadn't found this guy to match the apparent age so far, and it didn't seem to be all their fault.
"Come to the living room, guys. We've got work to do again. β
Silently rolling his eyes at West, Tony Stark flipped through the text in his hand, deciding not to bother with him with his big heart.
"By the way, Will. If you had told us your real age, I wouldn't have been in armor and would have done it with youβ"
Quickly pressed the mute button, and Iron Man cut off his tail note in the young man's instantly distorted expression:
"I never hit the elderly."
West: "......"
