4. Chapter 4
This silence is what Kevin hates the most. It's as if all of a sudden everyone is dead, there is no longer zΓ i, there is no past, there is no future in sight. It always brought back some not-so-good memories for him, even though in reality, he knew what it was all about.
It is a desert race entrenched in the west of the continent, and because of its treacherous, strange and insidious whereabouts, it is called a sand ghost by most people. Every time a certain number of sand ghosts hurriedly cross the border, people within a radius of 100 meters will experience hallucinations of blindness - they can't hear anything, they can't see anyone but themselves.
Of course, the duration is very short, only about a dozen seconds or so.
But at such a critical juncture as the battlefield, even a dozen seconds are quite fatal. Therefore, during the years when Kevin was the commander of the Bronze Army, most of his time was spent on "resisting the attack of sand ghosts", and even "died" on such a battlefield in the end.
"The ghost will not go away...... Kevin lowered his face coldly, and pressed one hand on the handle of the short knife on his waist, tensing every nerve in his body......
It's almost a reflex of sorts.
Click-
There was a sudden soft knock on the door.
Kevin bounced up in an instant, stabbed out, and slammed it to the car door.
He wasn't very strong, and his body was covered with only a thin layer of muscle, so he didn't have much advantage in terms of strength alone. But years of experience have taught him how to attack, and he broke through the seemingly heavy door. Between pulling and stirring, the door shaft broke, and the whole door collapsed.
Kevin: "...... what the hell?!
A gust of wind whistled past the side of the car, and the stones collided on the carriage, making a "click" collision sound one after another, exactly the same as the movement just now. A handful of fine grains of sand came from the open car door, and Kevin's face was confused.
The sand ghost is gone, the auditory sense is restored, and the hallucinations are gone.
"Very well, you unloaded my door less than five minutes after I came down." Osveld's voice sounded not far away, and as the rustling footsteps got closer and closer, "Your Excellency Fassbinder, are you idle?" β
"You're looking for a fight, aren't you?" Kevin was annoyed by the sand ghost, and replied to him without even thinking about it.
Osvid: "......"
"Are they really just passing by?" Kevin squatted on one knee by the car door, his posture unchanged, his guard not relaxed, holding the short knife and carefully scanning the surroundings, "How can it be ......"
Osvid walked closer, propped his little arms on the frame of the car door, and said angrily at him: "This is a place of dispersion, not a battlefield, and it is common for sand ghosts to 'pass by' here." β
"Sand ghosts can turn a place into a battlefield, and they won't be able to learn how to write the word 'rules' in the next life." Kevin said coldly.
Osvid grabbed the tip of Kevin's knife with two fingers and gave him a direction: "According to the old code of the Golden Lion Empire, a person like you who holds a knife against the emperor will be hanged and hung on the spire to show the public, completely naked. β
"And this carriage doorβ" He kicked the smashed door on the ground with his toes again, sneered, and said succinctly, "Compensation." β
Kevin: "......" to pay your grandfather!
He snapped the knife back into his waist, slapped Osveld's hand on the door frame, and jumped out of the car.
After the auditory sense was restored, the world outside the car suddenly became extremely noisy.
This is a very chaotic town, with houses and castles of different styles mixed together, far or near, without the slightest planning at all, as if it is dividing up the land, and can occupy one place is another.
This town, known as the "Land of the Diaspora", is located at the junction of different ethnic forces, occupying the largest "crossroads" in the middle of the continent, with the most cunning and fierce residents, the simplest and crude money and goods transactions, and the most complex power involvement. It is a hell for some and a paradise for others.
No matter how chaotic the place is, there are unwritten rules that it has formed for a long time, at least even the sand ghosts will not act rashly here, so in a certain way, this place is both dangerous and safe.
Ausveld's chariots and horses were traditionally left on the outskirts of the town, in the ruined temple of the Crow's Nest, where passing troops rested, and were guarded by heavily armored cavalry. The rest of the elite squad was divided into two groups, one to buy rations and drinks for everyone, and the other to follow Osvid in a little disguise.
Kevin let go of his muscles under the car, and saw Osvid look him up and down with his arms crossed, his expression revealing a youthful impatience.
"Why did I stab your eyes in the eyes of the respected majesty?" Kevin didn't have a good airway.
"Are you done twisting? Come with me when you're done, Mio is still waiting. Osvid turned and walked towards the center of the Diaspora.
"What for?" Confused, Kevin catches up with him and follows him to a boulder shop.
The proprietress in the shop turned on the lights, was holding her chin, and said lazily to Mio: "Two sets of seven silver coins, no counteroffer, you can get a twenty percent discount for those from the Golden Lion Empire, and a nine-percent discount for Lei Yin City." β
Mio was carrying two sets of clothes, one large and one small, and blinked: "Why?" β
Hostess: "Because they are generally good-looking." β
Miao suddenly came to his senses: "Look at me, yes, with my face, how much discount can I make?" β
The proprietress was very faceless: "I don't like natural rolls, if you talk nonsense, I'll increase the price for you." β
Mio: "......"
The little lion standing next to him followed suit: "Sister, look at me, can you get a discount?" β
The proprietress glanced at him: "You clean up your bird's nest first, but for your sister's sake, I'll give you a seven-fold discount." β
The corners of Kevin's mouth twitched, and he grabbed Oswid: "I'm really interested, and I also went to the clothing store, did you let me?" β
Osvid proudly pulled his sleeve out of his hand, patted it, and said, "You, and the little cub inside, if you dangle in front of me in this garment that has rolled a few layers of mud, I will order you to be forked on the city wall and hung to dry for half a month." β
Kevin: "...... It's great to be an emperor, isn't it? β
Osvid threw a hard "yes" and raised his hand to push Kevin through the door. He probably couldn't stand the clothes, and when he pushed it, his hand loosened at the touch, as if his fingers were about to rot after a few more seconds.
When the proprietress swept her eyes over Kevin, her eyes lit up: "Come to drink, our store will not bargain, I will give you a 50% discount on your face." β
Then he looked at Osvid again, and said with a smile: "You are also fifty fold, if you can let me touch your muscles, I will give you three folds." β
Osvid: "......"
Kevin smiled: "At most, he has just come of age, and you can do it?" β
"Fart, you're just an adult!" Osveld said with a stiff face.
Miao said: "Your Majesty...... He's twenty-one! β
Kevin said perfunctorily: "Oops, it's so big. β
"Shut up!" Osvid grabbed Mio's clothes and thrust them into Kevin's arms, "Hurry up and change your rag, or I'll tear it up." β
Kevin gave him an unceremonious glance and entered the fitting room with his clothes in his hand.
Mio took out the money, and his expression was indescribable: "......" actually rolled his eyes at the emperor, this is especially because he grew up eating bear bile!
In between Kevin's change of clothes, Osvid asks Mio to buy a vulture.
"Didn't you plan to buy it at all?" Mio almost thought he had misunderstood.
"I'm going to do it now." Oswid said lukewarmly: "He broke the carriage door and sat a ghost!" Oh yes, just buy one, he doesn't lose money, he takes a rope and lets him run back to St. Antis. β
As soon as Kevin came out of the fitting room, he was confused by the emperor's malice: "......"
Miao always felt that the two of them could fight at any time, so he hurriedly dragged the little lion with the money bag and ran away without looking back.
Kevin couldn't help but mutter, "When did that cub get along with Mio?" β
"People don't have the stinky problem of beating people with their hands if they can't make sense in three sentences." Osvid sneered lukewarmly, glanced at Kevin again, and said, "What is the origin of that child?" β
Kevin pretended to be stupid: "Huh? β
The two walked all the way in the direction of the ruined temple of the Crow's Nest, and Osvid squinted at the house shop on the side, and said, "You don't need to repeat the nonsense you made up to fool Mio, I heard the cub muttering that he wanted to find someone, or a family member, and it didn't match your words at all." β
Kevin also heard the little lion mention this, but he didn't bother to ask about it, after all, he didn't expect the follow-up development to be like this. Just as he pondered how to answer Osveld, a group of people were noisily walking towards a store, and their conversation vaguely reached Kevin's ears.
"Does that really matter? After all, it's something to be sent to the Golden Lion Country. β
"You are in charge of so much, your ...... The young master is willing, besides, that old thing is already missing an arm and a broken leg, are you really a gift? β
"There are so many emperors of the Golden Lion Kingdom who are obedient, what is a new emperor who has just succeeded him, what is he afraid of, he will receive whatever we send......"
Kevin listened to those conversations, and Osvid didn't fall behind, and his face sank immediately after listening to them.
In the Diaspora, Kevin doesn't come to many places, but he is no stranger, and he can name most of the storefronts and know what they do, such as the store where people poured in, which is a black casino, and the people in it can gamble on anything and dare to play.
Kevin and Osveld looked at each other, and without saying a word, they followed up behind the group.
"People from the Northern Emerald Country." Kevin stared at the men closely for a moment, then whispered in Osvid's ear, "I just don't know what they're talking aboutβ"
Before he could finish speaking, the people gathered around the casino suddenly burst into an uproar, shouting and whistling.
Kevin and Osvid took advantage of their height and looked over the heads.
Surrounded by everyone, there was a huge round iron cage, and a black-eared wolf with a steel ring around his neck was spinning in a circle excitedly, his eyes were red, and his fangs were terrifying. It was extremely strong, about two people when it stood up, and it was not an ordinary beast at first glance.
On the other side of the cage, someone is pushing a dirty adult male lion into the cage.
That person was one of the people who was talking at the door just now, and the reason why he used the push was because the male lion who was "supposed to be sent to the Golden Lion Empire as a gift" was a cripple.
It had a horrific scar on its face, and it was completely blind from its left eye to its right. One of the front paws was also injured, and it was so lame that he couldn't stand up, and he was pushed into the cage on his knees.
What a gift! Osvid sneered with a grim expression.
