Let us relive the history of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and recall the great steps of our great ancestors in the course of resisting the tyranny of Japanese imperialism!

The victory in the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression was the first comprehensive victory in China's history against aggression in modern times, and also made great contributions to the victory of the World Anti-Fascist War. China's Victory Day in the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression is set on September 3.

On July 7, 1937, the Japanese invading army created the "77" Lugou Bridge Incident near the Lugou Bridge in the southwestern suburbs of Beiping. The Lugou Bridge Incident was the beginning of Japan's full-scale war of aggression against China, and it was also the starting point of China's nationwide War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression. During the eight-year War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, China, as the main battlefield in the Asia-Pacific region, wiped out a total of 1.5 million Japanese troops, accounting for about 70% of the Japanese casualties in World War II, and played a decisive role in its destruction.

On August 14, 1945, Japan sent a note to China, the Soviet Union, the United States, and the United Kingdom, expressing its acceptance of the Potsdam Proclamation. On August 15, Japanese Emperor Hirohito officially announced Japan's unconditional surrender in the form of a broadcast of the "Edict of the End of the War".

On August 21, 1945, in the city of Zhijiang at the junction of Hunan and Guizhou, Takeo Imai, Japan's surrender representative and deputy chief of staff of the Japanese forces stationed in China, came to hold talks with He Yingqin, commander-in-chief of the Chinese Army, and relevant personnel of the US military. On September 2, Japanese representatives signed the instrument of surrender on board the American battleship USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay. The Nationalist Government at that time ordered the whole country to celebrate for three days the next day, and from September 3, 1946 as the anniversary of the victory of the Anti-Japanese War.

At the end of 1949, the Government Council of the People's Republic of China designated August 15 as the anniversary of the victory of the Anti-Japanese War. On August 13, 1951, the Government Council issued a circular stipulating that September 3 was the anniversary of the victory of the War of Resistance Against Japan, and the "Victory Day of the War of Resistance against Japan" was re-set on September 3 of each year.

In 1999, the State Council of the People's Republic of China issued Decree No. 270 "Measures for the Holiday of National Festivals and Memorial Days" (promulgated by the Government Council on December 23, 1949 and revised and promulgated by the State Council on September 18, 1999). This is the anniversary of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression established by the Chinese government in the form of regulations.
