Chapter Seventy-Two: The Gate of Doron
"I've been to this room a few times," Brandt watched as Vanessa took out Penicillium palm prints and carefully pressed them against the brightest and largest shield on the wall, "but no secret passages have been found." β
"That's because you're always negative about things you can't see." Vanessa felt the surface of the mirror shield begin to turn into a watery soft substance, and the silver ripples rippled around her palm, and the reflection on the mirror gradually became transparent, until a small shield-shaped space was revealedβa passageway.
"Well said," Brandt shrugged, holding out his hand to signal the princess to ask first, "Lady first." β
"First come, first served." Vanessa replied and stepped into the mirror shield as she spoke.
Thinking that the passage was too narrow to stand upright, but it was quite empty except for the dark, Vanessa groped for the walls on both sides, and her fingers suddenly touched something like cotton, startling her. "Brandt," the princess reached out to pull the prince, "there's something here. β
Brant took out a magic crystal from his waist and wiped it twice, and the magic crystal emitted a faint light that illuminated the passage in front of him - Vanessa had just touched a puppet.
"Oh my God, it's you." Vanessa picked up the doll and clasped her fingers on its ribcage, her heartbeat flowing through her fingers, just like Brandt's.
"Creon!" Brandt's teeth chattered, "He's ready to get rid of me!" β
"Look here," Vanessa said, pointing to the other two empty spaces for the sad dolls, "and if your dolls are in the third slot, then the first two must be the king and queen." The two of them gasped as the compartment belonging to the king was empty.
"Creon had premeditated that if he was imprisoned by the king, his men would threaten him with the king's puppet at the first opportunity." Brant analyzed.
"Or, just kill the king, don't have to wait." Vanessa reminded him.
"We need to find that door quickly!" The two glanced at each other, quickly passed the guΓ² passage, and entered Creon's secret room.
It is said to be a secret room, but in fact it is a labyrinth: the books and scrolls are concentrated in one room, neatly arranged and classified; Magical potions are stored in another room, with rows of bottles and cans on the shelves in an orderly manner; Behind these inconsequential compartments was a laboratory-like place, with a large iron bed in the middle of the floor, chains and shackles at the corners, and twisted knives of various shapes hanging from the walls, some of which were even arranged in order of size to give one goosebumps, no need to ask, this was where the perverted Creon tortured his opponents.
It's a wonderful irony that the research-obsessed magicians always throw things around, while the dark-hearted ones keep their territory neat and orderly.
Eventually, the two of them came to a room where magical artifacts were displayed. There's so much to see, and Vanessa and Brant feel like they're in the market of Scambrai.
A bell that makes a monster roar, a magic flame that burns automatically, a wine glass that never empties up, a golden silk cloak that makes people look tall and mighty, the delphinium letterhead that Lancelot uses to confess to Gnanevere, the runic gems that are loved by beautiful ladies, and the rose that sends Creon's sweet words of love from every petal......
"Here." At the last row of these items, Brant found a vertical piece of furniture wrapped in red cloth, ripped off the red cloth, and a brown wooden door carved with an ancient pattern appeared in front of the two of them.
"The Gate of Doron." Brant stroked the unknown wood and muttered, "Creon really found it." β
"We found it." Vanessa held out her hand to the prince, "Get the key and open the door." β
"You've really never heard of the Dolong Gate?" Brant looked at Vanessa in disbelief, as if looking at an alien, "You always know the story of King Doron, right?" β
"I'm long past the age of listening to fairy tales." Vanessa scoffed. While you were listening to the story, I was learning how to keep my head in the palace of Empress Wu Zhou.
"Doron fell in love with his own sister, but the world's customs did not allow him to unite with his sister, and their parents locked Princess Celis in the tower to prevent them from seeing each other.
"The last one?"
"Yes, and then they both jumped off the tower to die for their love."
Poor man. Vanessa thought that if someone came to me and told me that the person I fell in love with was my own brother, I would definitely kill that mouthy guy.
"This door was originally made for those who love each other, but it led to a tragic end, and Doron's parents threw it into the fire for relief, but Doron's magic made it indestructible."
So the old king had no choice but to look at the key that opened the door. Vanessa cleverly said, "I guess this key must be harder to find than a door." β
"But Creon found them all." Brant had to admire his lustful brother, who spared no expense in order to have an affair with a noble lady or lady.
"The same goes for you." Vanessa reached out again, "Now get the key and open the door so you can save your father." β
"No," Brandt laughed, "it's not a physical key. Doron's father knew how powerful his son's magic was, and that the key was as indestructible as the door, so he topologized it. β
"What?" Vanessa had never heard the word "topology". "What does that mean?"
"A kind of magic, simply put, is to change without degenerating." Brandt explained, "The old king turned the key into a spell, sealed it inside the body of his most trusted servant, and if he said the spell, the door would open automatically. β
"No wonder Creon says the key is with him." Vanessa smiled at the corner of her mouth, "Then what are you waiting for, why don't you open the door soon?" β
Brandt's expression was complicated: "Because I'm hesitating." He looked at Vanessa, his lips twitched, not knowing what to say, and finally, he spoke, "Saying the incantation is tantamount to announcing the death of the gatekeeper." For hundreds of years, the servant had been immortalized by this spell, and once the door was opened, his immortality would end. β
I see. Vanessa nodded, burying other people's lives with her own hands to achieve her own goals, this kind of victory was not comfortable at all
