043 Targeted rally
In Sybil. Shortly after Professor Trelawney's dismissal, Lawrence and the twins returned to their dorm room.
"So." Fred looked at Lawrence with a cheerful expression,
"Soβ" George said the word, his tail note rising, staring at Lawrence expectantly,
"So?" Lawrence stared at the two of them inexplicably,
"Plans." The twins said in unison,
"How could there be such a thing?" Lawrence spread his hands,
"Huh?" George looked surprised,
"What are you surprised about?" Lawrence raised an eyebrow,
"We thought you'd say that, it must have been planned a long time ago." Fred explained,
"I'm not that good, Fred," Lawrence shook his head, "and a lot of times yours do a lot better than I do."
"Well, I'm guessing you've been putting your energy into other projects lately." Fred looked at Lawrence narrowly,
"Like a planned weekend trip to Hogsmeade?" George answered,
"I think you're going to need a lot of material anyway to support the big prank you want to do," Lawrence suggested, pretending not to hear their jokes,
"But for now, Hogwarts' external communications, such as owl mail and stoves, are being monitored, and we can't get the materials we need quickly."
"And I'm sure she's in Hogsmeade, and she must have eyeliner," George said sullenly, "and we bought some special gadgets last time, and when we got back to the castle, Filch was like a cat that smelled fish, and was circling around us like crazy."
"You don't think about it?" Fred paused, he seemed to understand what Lawrence was going to do,
"Umbridge and the London Ministry of Magic maintain a fast exchange of information, the owl mail is not so fast, I guess she uses Floo.com, and the stove in her office is probably not under the surveillance of the Ministry of Magic," Lawrence said slowly, "I think we need to go to Umbridge's office."
The twins agreed with Lawrence's opinion, and they had already planned to secretly use Apparition to go to London to supplement materials on the next weekend in Hogsmeade.
And in the Defence Against the Dark Arts class, they once again used the skipping candy to leave the classroom openly under Umbridge's resentful gaze,
They first returned to Gryffindor Tower, and then used the Illusion Charm to sneak up on Umbridge's office door, and Lawrence checked it for almost ten minutes before he unlocked it in disbelief.
"I'll just say, she's not going to be that smart." Fred grinned and teased Lawrence,
"I think it's better to be careful." Lawrence didn't care, and after they entered the office, they relocked the door before lifting the illusion spell on their bodies.
According to their previous plan, Lawrence went to the fire to check for protective spells, and Fred and George were idle in the office, but they were careful not to touch anything.
"Hey, look at this, Fred." George suddenly shouted, standing at Umbridge's desk and beckoning to Fred, pointing to a roll of parchment on the table,
"Dear Minister......
"I think it's a routine report letter." Fred quickly read the beginning and made a guess,
"There's something mentioned here," George hesitated, "I guess she's probably talking about us?"
"Regarding the last report, about Harry Potter's suspicious behavior, I suspect that he did not give up his intention to assemble in secret, and the suspicious situation of some students disappearing at some point, I suggest that they can warn their father or mother who works in the Ministry of Magic and take advantage of this......
"What I'm more concerned about is that our assembly is discovered?" Fred looked at the half-written letter and asked cautiously, "Did any of us snitch?"
"You don't even know your name?" Lawrence turned his head and asked in surprise,
"What's your name?" Fred and George asked rhetorically in unison,
"That parchment," said Lawrence, "the one you pinned to the wall, the parchment with the names of all of you."
"Huh?" Fred was a little puzzled, but George showed a look of sudden realization,
"You mean, Hermione cast a spell on the parchment?" George said,
"I thought you'd be a little more wary of this type of magic after taking Professor Flitwick's class," Lawrence didn't care, he checked the stove to make sure there were no warning or protective spells on it, and motioned for the twins to use it,
"But it sounds like Hermione didn't tell you she cast a spell, so I guessβ" Lawrence touched his chin, "The price to pay for betraying you may not be too much?"
"What do you mean?" Fred was a little surprised, George had already buried his upper body in the furnace at this time,
"No, Fred, I guess no one has betrayed yet, butβ" Lawrence judged as he looked at the unfinished letter, but his mind flashed Selwyn's almost whispering warning in the student council president's office,
"Every time there is a meeting, more than two dozen students disappear, and even if you don't know your classmates well, someone will always notice it."
"That doesn't sound good." Fred muttered to himself, the three of them didn't care if they graduated, but the others certainly weren't,
However they did not continue the conversation, for this was not a good place to discuss the matter, and George left the stove with the small backpack they had illegally cast the Traceless Stretching Charm, which was already full of what they needed.
At midnight that day, after the fires in the Gryffindor saloon had been extinguished, several figures quietly slipped out of the different dormitories, and they cautiously walked to the still warm stove in the dark.
A loud, strange, rubber-chicken-sounding cry, accompanied by Hermione's exasperated growl and the twin brother's snickering, Hermione shushed several times in the direction of what appeared to be Harry and Ron's laughter.
Then there was a crackling of ignition, and a bright flame lit up at the tip of a wand, reflecting Lawrence's grinning expression,
"I can't believe you're still placing your magic wand on our way?" Hermione was holding a rubber duck in her hand that was turning back into a wand, and the strange cry just now was clearly Hermione stepping on it,
"I'm sure we, the Gryffindors, won't report to Umbridge." George replied with a grin,
"I'm not that optimistic." Harry said with some gloom,
"Gee, I guess it's us who you should suspect the most, Harry." Fred winked at Harry, deliberately saying, "Dad works at the Ministry of Magic."
"And me," Lawrence said sarcastically, "I'm not on the list, and even if I did, I wouldn't be punished by the spell, and I might be able to get back to the position of president of the male student council by the way."
"Hey, don't be stupid." Harry quickly denied it, "I don't believe you're going to snitch on Umbridge."
"But you both know about it? I mean the spell on the list." George squinted at Ron, whose face flushed,
"We only found out after the publication of Article 24 of the Education Order." Harry explained,
"Pretty good magic, but you should tell the signatories," Lawrence commented, "so you can exert stronger constraints."
"Actually, I can't help it," Hermione was visibly annoyed, "I just want to make sure I know who it is if one of us has a snitch."
"But you're really amazing." Fred looked at Hermione,
"Worthy of Miss Know-It-All." George nodded in agreement, their compliments making Ron's expression strange,
"Oh." Hermione was a little cramped, but she looked happy, obviously she didn't expect to get positive praise from Lawrence and the twins,
"So, guess who's being targeted?" Ron hurriedly asked, "There must be us, right?"
"We weren't joking, little brother," Fred was a little surprised, "but I'm sure Dad will respect our choice in this matter, and he won't pay attention to Fudge's pressure, or even tell us about it."
"But not necessarily for others, right?" Harry was a little pessimistic, "How many of our members do we have, and our father or mother works at the Ministry of Magic?"
"I guess...... Not half, but a third." George's answer silenced everyone,
"We shouldn't doubt those people," Harry said as he broke the silence as everyone looked at him, Harry stammered a little, but still tried to express himself, "I mean, they're all signed, I don't believe Diggory or anyone else would ...... Betrayal."
Harry exchanged glances with the others, and finally they reluctantly agreed, and Lawrence extinguished the light from the tip of his wand, and everyone walked to their dormitories in the dark.
Lawrence and the twins didn't speak again until they went back to their beds, years of tacit understanding and prankmaking experience, they understood each other's thoughts without exchanging opinions, everything had to be prepared for the worst, and the reality was worse than imagined most of the time,
As March passed, and although Umbridge did not make any other moves, the unease was slowly growing in the hearts of all those who knew that the party had been targeted.
Harry's response to this was apparently to go even further at the 'DA' rally, and the twins were working harder than usual on the production and development of prank props, which in their words was "the secret to reviving Hogwarts".
Before Easter in April, the illegal gathering "Dumbledore's Army" also ushered in the last meeting before the holiday, and they practiced the long-awaited Patronus Charm in a large and bright room. (Note 1)

Note 1: In the original book, the time description of this meeting is "the last lesson before Easter", and Easter in 1996 should be on April 8.
But the movie seems to use the newspaper to bring out that Umbridge became the headmaster of Hogwarts on April 21st, so the party should be on April 20th in the movie.
Here we use the pre-Easter period according to the original book as the time point.
