Chapter 737: Jungfrau Railway

There are many famous places of interest in Switzerland, but when it comes to the most famous ones, Jungfrau will undoubtedly have a place in them.

The picturesque Alps have many famous peaks, such as the highest peak in the Alps, which is also the highest peak in Europe, Mont Blanc on the border between France and Italy, such as the Matterhorn and the Eiger peak. But among these majestic peaks, the most famous, Jungfrau in the southeast of Bern, Switzerland, also has a place among them.

This 18-kilometer-long, like a young girl, draped in long hair, covered in silver, lying quietly on her back between the white clouds, is known as the "queen" of the Alps, at the same time, although the Jungfrau is only 4158 meters above sea level, it is not the highest peak in the entire Alps, but she is recognized by the world as the "roof of Europe".

Interlaken, a town with a population of less than 6,000 people, is a tourist town famous for the "Roof of Europe" Jungfraujoch. In the original Latin word, Interlaken means "between two lakes".

Located between Lake Thun and Lake Brienz, this town is also known as the town between the lakes and is a town that has risen by standard for sightseeing. Interlaken is geographically the center of the Bernese Oberland. Just over 20 kilometres south of the town stand the famous three pearls of the Bernese Oberland: Jungfraujoch, Eiger and Moch.

People from all over the world want to climb Jungfrau and Interlaken is a must-see. As the only mountain in the world that can be climbed by anyone at an altitude of more than 3,500 meters, it is inevitable that Interlaken will rise with the Jungfraujoch.

There are countless peaks of more than 3,500 meters on this planet, but to climb these peaks, it is not possible for ordinary people to climb them. You can't let a two- or three-year-old or an eighty-year-old climb such a mountain.

But Jungfrauch, to be exact. It is the small Jungfraujoch next to the Jungfraujoch, but it is the only mountain in the world that is more than 3,400 meters above sea level and can be climbed by anyone of any age. Because of the summit of this mountain, there is a cog railway unique in Switzerland that leads directly to the summit.

That's right, if you want to climb the Little Jungfrau at an altitude of more than 3,400 meters, then you can do it from Interlaken at the foot of the Jungfrau mountain. Take the unique cog train here, and in the comfort of the carriage, it takes about two hours and 20 minutes to follow the train all the way to the top. The same is true even if you have a two- or three-year-old doll in your arms.

This cog railway, also known as the Jungfrau Railway, refers to the section from the Lesser Shaidek Pass to the Jungfrau Pass (Jungfrau Petitrajoch). Construction began in 1896 and took 16 years, until 1912 to complete the seven-kilometre-long railway.

The maximum gradient is 25%, and about three-quarters of the road is passed under the glacier and in the rock face. The 3,454-meter-high Jungfrau railway, which is connected to the 3,454-meter-high Jungfraujoch next to the Jungfraujoch by tunnel and cog railway, is also known as the "Sky Train" because of its steep terrain and towering heights. And the terminus of this railway, Jungfrau Station, is also known as the "Top of Europe" because it is the highest railway station in Europe at 3,454 meters above sea level.

Tourists who come to Switzerland for tourism. As long as there are conditions, almost all will take this cog train to climb the Jungfrau Mountain. Feel the wonderful feeling of overlooking the entire Bernese Oberland. Since the Tang family is here, they will naturally not let go of this opportunity.

It's just that if you want to take the cog train to climb the mountain, Depp, Downey and Woods have no way to follow it, especially Woods, a large carnivorous beast that is absolutely not allowed to board the cog train. Even if Tang Feng holds an Amex black card, it is in vain. In desperation, Tang Feng could only entrust his three sons to the hotel to take care of them, and then Tang Feng and Sophia boarded the train to Jungfrau directly in Interlaken.

Since it's not yet the peak tourist season, the earliest train at this time leaves at 7:05 a.m. This dedicated tourist train is part of the Jungfrau Railway Company and costs only CHF 198 for an adult to make a round trip in first class.

In fact, there are two routes from Interlaken to Jungfrau Station, one is the Eastern Line, which runs from Interlaken via Zweilutschinen station, then heads east to Grindelwald to change trains, then to Kleine Schaydeck station to change trains and finally take the cog train that passes through the last seven kilometres of the Jungfrau Railway.

The other line is the Western Line, which also runs from Interlaken south through Zweilutschinen station, then south to Lauterbrunnen station, from where it changes trains, also to Kleina Schaidek station, and from there to the top of the mountain.

Generally speaking, tourists who climb the mountain by train take one line up the mountain and another line when they go down, so that they can enjoy all the scenery along the whole route. The same is true of Tang Feng and Sophia, when they go up the mountain, they choose the eastern front. But no matter whether she takes the eastern or western routes, Sophia finally saw the legendary cog railway, which made this girl rare.

The rack railway is a very special kind of railway, this kind of railway has three tracks, the outer two tracks are normal rails, but in the middle of the two rails, there is a special rack rail.

This kind of rack railway is specially built for climbing mountains, which is commonly known as mountain climbing railway. Because the slope slope that can be climbed by the general railway is about 4% to 6%, and the locomotive walking on the cog railway, because it is equipped with one or more gears, and the middle cog mesh, so that the locomotive can overcome the problem of insufficient adhesion, and can even pull the train up to a steep slope with a gradient of 48%.

Cog railways are very common in Switzerland, because Switzerland is mountainous and sometimes the terrain is very steep, so it is necessary to rely on cog railways to climb higher ground.

After Zweilutschinen station, the railway line splits into two, one goes directly to the south, and the other follows the valley all the way to the east, which is the line taken by the Tang Feng and his family.

The train doesn't run very fast, so the scenery along the way is exceptionally clear. On the slow-moving train, you can see the three major mountain peaks shrouded in mist in the distance; Nearby, you can admire the houses of the residents in the middle of the mountain and below, these elegant, quiet and unique cottages are built on the hillside, which is scattered. And on the grass between the houses, the cattle and sheep eat the fresh grass leisurely and beautifully; A little further away, verdant forests and grassy meadows make the whole view look like a painting (to be continued). )
