Strictly speaking, the auxiliary power unit is very different from the main engine, which is actually an ultra-small thrust aeroderivative gas turbine. Early jet-powered airplanes didn't actually have an APU system, but people could also fly for fun, so this thing was not a necessity.
The real large-scale use of this device is after the jet large passenger aircraft is put into use, after all, those large jet airliners need to use a lot of electricity, which is why the APU system appeared, and the APU at that time was only a single one. It was only a separate power supply system outside the engine, until later, with the continuous expansion of the engine thrust, after the emergence of ten tons and twenty tons of big guys, it was absolutely impossible to start the engine and then use the early motor to drive.

It looks like a hassle, but this is only a high-thrust turbofan engine needs equipment, in fact, the current CG-2000 engine can be started without this thing, and the use of high-power electric motors can also drive the engine to start, but this is not the optimal design solution.
The CG-2000 engine is to be installed on civil airliners, which must be equipped with APU units due to huge electricity demand. Since there must be APU system units both horizontally and vertically, if the CG-2000 does not make good use of this thing, it will simply be sorry for the country and the people.
