Chapter II: Eliminating Harm for the People
Gravel paid for the room with the money Salim had given him, and Tony went to the market.
"What are we going to do, my lord?" asked Tony, curiously
"I just got a big deal, but it's going to take blood and a sword to get it done. β
"I don't understand, my lord. β
"You know how to ride a horse. Gravel asked Tony beside him
"No, it won't. β
The two went to a horse dealer, and Gravel bought a horse because Tony couldn't ride a horse.
Then the two went to the blacksmith's shop
"What weapons are you proficient in?" Gravel asked Tony
"I haven't used a weapon. β
"Then I'll buy you a dagger to defend yourself, after all, you don't know how to use weapons yet. β
In this way, after preparing some other equipment and dry food, the two went to a small village nearby. The village is subordinate to Port Purin and the village is full of life in its fields and orchards. The ubiquitous wheat pockets and air-dried meat are a testament to the productive capacity of the village's farmlands and pastures.
Gravel rode into the village, while Tony followed him.
A few elderly people sit in the shade of a tree at the entrance of the village and smoke the tobacco they have grown. For the arrival of outsiders, the people here seem to be very enthusiastic.
"What a paradise here!" Gravel said to Tony
"yes, I wish I could have made a home here. But now, I'd rather follow you. β
Gravel dismounted and tied his horse under a tree.
"Old man, I would like to ask if there are any young people here who want to go out and wander?" asked Gravell to a wrinkled old man
"What? I'm too old to hear. You speak louder. β
"Old man, do you have any young people looking for a job?" Gravel raised his voice
"Young men, they were all taken away by the conscripted Imperial officers. As he spoke, the old man spat out a smoke ring.
"Looks like we're in the wrong place, my lord," Tony said
"We'll stay here for a few days to see if there's another chance. β
Gravel and Tony arrive at a dilapidated hotel and stay for the time being.
After two days, Gravel had made a clear survey of the entire village. Most of the young adults in this village were taken away by the Imperial conscripts, but there were still a dozen or so left untaken away. However, these people do not look forward to living a life of swords and swords, they prefer to spend their lives in the ordinary.
On the night of the third day, Gravel and Tony decided to leave early tomorrow morning to try something else. The next day, Gravel and Tony pack up and leave the village.
"Where are we going next, sir?" asked Tony
"Let's take one step at a time. β
"Look, my lord. Tony pointed to the village, where a fire was raging.
"Go see what's going on. Gravel rode towards the place where the fire had started, and Tony followed him.
I saw that several robbers were robbing the villagers, and they set fire to their granaries in order to suppress them.
"What do you two want to do?" the bandit leader shouted to Gravell as he rushed towards him.
"Eliminate harm for the people!"
"If you want to rid the people, it depends on whether the sword in my hand agrees!" the bandit leader scoffed
Faced with five armed bandits, Gravel told Tony not to make a move, but to follow behind and take care of the injured villagers.
In a single sprint, Gravel had already rushed in front of the robbers on a tall horse.
The head of a robber fell to the ground.
The remaining four robbers were taken aback, but not intimidated. Instead, in anger, they also swung their swords and slashed at Gravel.
Facing four people at the same time, Gravel was a little flustered.
However, this did not affect his combat effectiveness, and the four robbers had no room for resistance under the threat of Gravel's "cavalry".
"Divide and strike" was the only thought that crossed Gravel's mind.
Gravel quickened his pace, leaving the bandits far behind. Suddenly, Gravel stopped and slashed in the direction of the robbers. The trick worked, and Gravel cut down several robbers to the ground with his superb riding skills. Gravel's men showed mercy and did not hurt them.
The robbers fell to their knees and begged Gravel to let them go.
Gravel saw how one of these wounded robbers was missing, and only three were left kneeling here.
Just then, Tony drove the fleeing bandit leader towards Gravel.
"My lord, I have captured the escapee. Tony said happily to Gravel
"Well done. Grawell complimented Tony
Gravel dismounted and walked over to the bandit leader, whose hands were tied. Seeing Gravel approaching, the bandit leader was silent.
What the bandit leader did not expect was that Gravel himself released him.
"You, thisβ" The bandit leader was speechless for a moment
"I believe that you were not born to be robbers, you must be forced by life, so I decided to give you a chance to be a new person. The war has already made the people miserable, so don't add fuel to the fire. β
Just as he was untying the bandit leader, Gravel noticed a cross-shaped scar on the bandit leader's right arm.
"There's something I want to ask you. Gravel asked the bandit leader
"What's the matter?"
"Have you caught a merchant from Kailandil recently?"
"It seems like there's such a thing, he's locked up in our lair. β
"You tell me a little bit more detailed"
"Okay. The bandit leader told Gravel the exact location of their lair
"Okay, you and your brother can go, but don't let me know that you're going to kill people and set fires again. β
The bandit leader said yes and left the village with three wounded men.
Gravel and Tony also packed their bags and prepared to head there.
"Heroes, please stay. I saw a few villagers take out the remaining grain, fruits and other items to thank Gravel for saving his life.
"Old man, your village has just been hit by robbers. You need this now more than we do. Gravel said to the village chiefs.
"Tony, give them fifty silver dragon coins. Gravel said to Tony again
"How can this be done, what is the benefactor doing? One of the villagers hurriedly said
"Don't think this money is small, this represents a little bit of my heart, you can use it to treat the injured villagers. Gravel said
"Benefactor, there are still more than a dozen young adults in our village, and we are willing to follow you. "The villagers showed great gratitude.
Gravel took the dozen young men with him, bid farewell to the villagers, and headed for the depths of the forest where the robbers were hiding.
