Recently, the collectibles market is booming, not to mention famous paintings, ancient porcelain and other high-end collectibles, that is, stamps, coins, telephone magnetic cards and so on that are closely related to ordinary citizens.
So, when talking about collecting, some friends and colleagues will jokingly ask: "Okay, now you make a lot of money from collecting, right?" ”
I tend to laugh it off.
I've always loved collecting: stamps, coins, magnetic phone cards, movie comics...... I've always loved collecting: stamps, coins, magnetic phone cards, movie comics...... The list goes on and on; In terms of time, it spans almost 40 years. Since it is a hobby, as long as you like it, you can buy a little under the premise that the economic conditions allow, and only buy and not sell, take out the collection to appreciate it in your spare time, and carefully put it back in the cupboard. As time went by, some collectibles inadvertently multiplied in value, bringing me an excess return on "hobbies"; Some collectibles not only do not increase in value, but instead become garbage.
Below, I will tell you 4 stories of my collection.
"Flower Paper Head"
Stamps belong to the general public. Although communication technology has advanced by leaps and bounds, and writing letters has become a rare thing, the mass base of philately is still there: old stamp fans, relieving boredom and adding color to their later life; Young parents are willing to pay for their children's knowledge; As a middle-aged person like me, I am usually busy with work, and philately collecting has become a thing of the past, and now I mainly care about philately and maintain contacts with postal friends.
Speaking of stamps, often according to the time, type, can be divided into periodic, cultural, revolutionary, number, JT, zodiac, scenery, people, sports, etc., or divided into Chinese, foreign and the like. There is also a kind of "flower paper head", which novice philatelic novices may not know.
Like a postage stamp, it has the name of the country and the face value, and is not recognized by the International Postal Union because it is printed by the country or region where the zài no longer exists and is sold exclusively to stamp collectors for the purpose of making money rather than for communication.
I started collecting stamps in the late 70s of the last century. Once, a neighbor said that a colleague of his also collected stamps, so he took me to see it. As a result, I found that there were many "foreign stamps" in the other party's stamp album, and the themes were all world famous paintings, including the works of Leonardo da Vinci, Raphael, Repin, etc., as well as figure paintings and landscape paintings, which were beautifully printed, and were much more beautiful than the domestic stamps at that time, both in terms of subject matter and content. So, I hope that the other party can "cut love", and the result is as desired. Later, I went and bought it a few more times. I put these "foreign stamps" in the philatelic album as treasures, and when I looked at them, I was happy: they looked good, but ordinary people don't have them. Until one day, I learned that they were not really foreign stamps, but "flower paper heads" with no collectible value, and I was very upset. Later, I don't know where this "flower paper" stamp album was lost.
I remember that when I bought these "flower paper heads", I spent more than 10 yuan before and after. Today, that's nothing. But it was the late 70s and early 80s of the last century, if I used this money to buy two editions of the Zodiac Monkey Ticket issued in 1980 (face value of 8 cents, 80 pieces per edition, six yuan and four corners) and put it now, the market price is as high as more than 2 million yuan, and I will not make a fortune?
It's a pity that I didn't have much postal knowledge at the beginning, and I planted my head on the "flower paper" and didn't complain about others. After all, "Flower Paper Head" once showed the beauty of world famous paintings in my eyes. This is considered to be "Ah Q".
"Coin King"
Coins are a popular collection at present, including ancient and modern Chinese and foreign banknotes, gold and silver coins, circulating commemorative coins, ordinary zodiac coins, etc., there are many types. Among all kinds of coins, there are varieties that are sought after by the market or funds, and their value is much higher than that of other similar coins, and it is called the "king of coins". In the first and second sets of renminbi, among the gold and silver coins with a circulation of only a few hundred, one by one the "coin kings" made ordinary collectors only look up. Take the third set of RMB as an example, the "currency king" should be the "jujube red watermark dime" coin, not out of the money that starts with the word "10,000", you don't want to get it.
For these "coin kings", I only have the greed for it, I didn't have that vision at the beginning, and I didn't have the strength to buy. However, among the commemorative coins in circulation, I have collected two "coin kings", which were issued by the People's Bank of China for several years after its establishment, referred to as "CCB".
Among the commemorative coins, the circulating commemorative coins are "pediatrics": each with a face value of 1 yuan, and the circulation is also large. As a result, there is less potential for appreciation. Nevertheless, in this round of coin bull market, the early and mid-term small-cap circulation commemorative coins rose considerably, many varieties hit record highs, as the "coin king" "CCB" is the leading variety, its price from 2,700 yuan in mid-November 2010, all the way to the current 3,800 yuan.
I collect these two "CCB", and I also have a small story.
I remember that in the mid-80s of the last century, I started collecting commemorative coins in circulation. On a business trip to Hangzhou, I took the time to go to the collectibles market by the West Lake, and found a circulating commemorative coin that I had not seen in Jinhua, that is, "CCB". I like to collect all of them, so I asked for the price. The same face value is 1 yuan, but the "CCB" is a few yuan more expensive than other circulating commemorative coins, so I gritted my teeth and bought it. The stall owner had two, I asked for them all, and if I remember correctly, each piece was 6 yuan, and it cost a total of 12 yuan. I didn't fancy its investment value, but originally collected two sets of circulating commemorative coins, and prepared to keep one for myself and one for my son later.
As a result, these two "CCB" coins have been collected by me until today, more than 20 years later, they are known as the "King of Coins" in circulation commemorative coins, and the value of 12 yuan has also increased to 7,600 yuan.
If I, like an acquaintance, sold a "CCB" at a price of 100 yuan, would I be disappointed now?
Test Cards
Nowadays, mobile phones are popular, and if anyone mentions that they used to use cards to make calls, they suddenly appear outdated, but their historical and cultural heritage -- telephone cards -- are like old wine, and once the invisible "giant hand" of the market is opened, the fragrance is immediately overflowing.
Among the telephone cards, there is a national general telephone magnetic card, referred to as the Tamura card. China's telecommunications department began to issue in August 1994, and until February 2000, the "Seven Zodiac Signs" were issued, a total of 73 sets were issued, and the use time was only more than 7 years, and in March 2002, they began to be destroyed and replaced by IC cards.
From 1996 to 1997, there was a round of big market in the coin card market, and two "dark horses" worth more than 10,000 yuan -- "test card" and "Mei Lanfang" -- were "killed" in the Tamura card. At that time, every Saturday and Sunday, the post market in Jinhua Guzicheng was crowded with people, and the transaction was hot. I have a soft spot for Tamura cards, a set of collections, some bought at face value with members of the Bazaar Card Association (membership cards are quite popular, it is difficult to get them), and old cards bought at a high price from the market. The most expensive set purchased was "Mei Lanfang", which cost 5,000 yuan. Since the third quarter of 1997, the market for postal cards has been declining for more than 10 years. Among them, "Mei Lanfang" fell below the 1,000-yuan mark. After this round of "blowout" market since the beginning of last year, it has finally rebounded to four or five thousand yuan.
In order to collect all the Tamura cards, shortly after the market fell, I spent 2,800 yuan at the Guzicheng Post Market to decisively buy a set of "test cards". At that time, the seller had two sets, and I carefully selected, and one of them was in full condition. I think that no matter what the fate of the Tamura card will be in the future, I have a full set of Tamura cards (except for a few plus cards), but I have a wish to collect it. Unexpectedly, with the passage of time, the market price of the "test card" began to rebound slowly after falling to more than 1,000 yuan, and since last year, it has shown a skyrocketing trend, not only breaking through the 10,000 yuan mark, but now it has reached 18,000 yuan, which has brought me gratifying returns. The market price of a full set of Tamura cards has reached 45,000 yuan.
Why did the "test card" become the biggest "dark horse" in Tamura's card?
The "test card" is a special card for the "test card machine", which is the first set of national general telephone magnetic cards, which is not sold by the Tongguò telecommunications department, and belongs to the "unissued card", with no number or serial number. It is said that a total of 29,000 test cards were issued, and at that time, there were very few people who collected phone cards, and most of them were consumed by the staff test card machine. Regarding its surviving quantity, it is generally believed that there are only a few thousand, and its "rarity" and collection value are comparable to those of early foreign "rare cards".
Monkey ticket
When it comes to stamps, the most famous is China's first set of zodiac T.46 "Gengshen Year" monkey stamps, issued on February 15, 1980 (Chinese New Year's Eve). Of course, I, an old stamp collector, have a bit of a "monkey relationship", and now I have two monkey stamps: a new one and an old, the market price of the new ticket is about 10,000 yuan, and the old ticket is three or four thousand yuan.
The first monkey ticket I bought was in the year it was issued, and it was purchased in Nanjing. That summer, I went to Nanjing to visit my grandmother and my uncle's family. There is a post and telecommunications office in the Drum Tower of Nanjing, and I went there to buy stamps, such as numbered stamps such as "Red Flag Canal" and "Huxian Peasant Painting", as well as a set of "monkey stamps". At that time, I wrote a letter to my family to report my safety, and I did not hesitate to put the monkey stamp on the envelope and put it in the mailbox.
When I returned to Jinhua, I washed the monkey stamps off the envelopes and put them in the stamp book. If you know that the monkey ticket with a face value of 8 cents can jump to 10,000 yuan, who would do something stupid?
Historically, every price change of monkey tickets has been accompanied by a change in the postal market. At that time, the concept of philately, collecting stamps was a real philately, and it was not a waste of money, wouldn't it be a good thing? Among the seven or eight sets of stamps I bought in Nanjing, the others were a few sets, and only one set of monkey stamps was used, so I used it first.
Later, the postal market had several ups and downs, and the price of monkey tickets rose and fell a few times, and the overall trend was relatively strong: from 1984 to 1986, it rose from 3 yuan to 30 yuan; At the end of 1990, it rose from 70 yuan to about 240 yuan, and started a round of postal market in 1991. Later, philately mainly collected new stamps, and my 1980 stamp album lacked a new set of monkey stamps, so I asked around and wanted to buy a new set of stamps. In the mid-90s of the last century, on a rainy day, I finally bought a full-quality monkey ticket from a postman surnamed Zhang, and it cost more than 500 yuan if I remember correctly. This price was the highest in Jinhua's monkey ticket transaction at that time.
Days passed, in 1997 ushered in a round of magnificent postal market, monkey tickets broke through the 1,000 yuan mark, then lowered, and rose, until now rushed to the 10,000 yuan mark, and the whole page of monkey tickets amounted to more than 1 million yuan, writing a legend of monkey tickets. In the past 31 years, how many times the monkey ticket with a face value of 8 cents has risen, I have never calculated, and I am too lazy to calculate.
Looking back on the road of collecting, I think that there are many things to learn if I want to avoid detours. It is better to put the cultural pleasure in the collection first. If you spend money and inadvertently have a financial return, it is the icing on the cake, and you are happy!
