Chapter 11: Staring into the abyss of Gawain

Showing up at the store wasn't what Gawain expected, but by the time he returned to Florin's shop with Hermione, a large family had already filled the small storefront. There were seven or eight of them, all of them with red hair like fire.

Although the middle-aged man who was supposed to be his father was greeting warmly, wanting to invite the two of them to sit down together.

But Gawain politely refused.

He's never been good at dealing with this kind of overzealousness.

Regarding Hermione, he asked her to describe her father's clothes under the pretense of "if Uncle came over, let him rest here", and asked the boss Florin to help keep an eye on it. He didn't want to take Hermione to stand on the street in the sun, so he found a shop to visit.

As for why you chose this store?

Hermione didn't want to go too far from Florin's shop, but the two of them couldn't go to the nearest Aubus Thorus Press, or Mrs. Prim Peniel's beauty magic shop. And out of some subtle thought, Gawain avoided the travel agency called "Horror Tours".

"Fluffy Velvet. Give it something to eat once in a while, and it won't starve. In a sense, children should love this pet. ”

It seemed to notice Gawain's gaze, and the female boss lazily answered.

"You can just take a look and tell me what you want to buy. ”

Obviously, she was not optimistic about Gawain's desire to buy, and waved her hand listlessly.

Gawain felt much more relaxed.

"Speaking of which, Gawain, how did you get the letter from Hogwarts? The day before yesterday an owl slammed straight into the window of my house, almost startling Jennifer. She still can't believe in magic, wizards are real. Did Professor McGonagall help explain this to the family?"

Perhaps relaxed, Hermione said in a low voice but speaking quickly.

It was the first time she had someone to share about the wizarding world, and she couldn't help but be excited.

"Hmm... Pretty much. That's it. ”

Gawain replied a little weakly, but what else could he say...

I almost lost myself?

I blew myself?

Or have I never seen a fat chicken with a round face?

In response to Gawain's perfunctory answer, Hermione raised her eyebrows and shook her head again.

"Do you know what Hogwarts is like? I just saw this book "Hogwarts: A School History" in the bookstore, and it contains a lot of things you would never imagine!"

Hermione fumbled twice through her bag, grabbed a thick book, and spread it out on a low table next to her.

She flipped to one of the pages.

"Hogwarts used to be 'Muggles,'" Hermione said, referring to herself and Gawain, "a noble castle for ordinary people like us, but then it was subjected to sophisticated magic that could no longer be observed by the outside world." Can you imagine what that would be like?"

"Uhh

Because he not only knew, but also went, and slept.

In a sense.

"Look, this cat, how cute. ”

Gawain turned his neck to find a way to change the subject, so he grabbed a kitten that had jumped on the shelf from the side and threw it on Hermione's spread book. It was a Bombay cat, about the length of Gawain's forearms, with a pitch-black body, smooth and shiny short hair, and a pair of golden eyes.

The cat was suddenly picked up and did not panic, but grabbed Gawain's sleeve with its paws, and did not want to let go. Its eyes narrowed, and it snorted.

It's not so much a cat as a thief who depends on him.

It was Gawain himself who provoked it.

"Let go, the buttons are going to fall off!"

Gawain raised his arm a little and pointed at the kitten with his empty left hand, trying to get it to loosen.

But the cat was unmoved, stepping on Hermione's spread book, two front feet on Gawain's cuffs, and rubbing his left hand with its round head, as if it was enjoying.

"Flutter. ”

Hermione, who was watching from the sidelines, couldn't help laughing, looking at Gawain's helpless expression, she stretched out her left hand, grabbed the black cat's body, and gently stroked her right hand along the hair.

Only then did the black cat let go of Gawain, but the little head still leaned in front of his hand, sticking out its pink tongue and licking it.

"My neighbor has a shorthair cat and she does it every time he gets angry. ”

Hermione turned her head to explain. Maybe it's because this technique doesn't match her usual image, and she looks a little embarrassed.

"Thank you, Jane. ”

Gao Wen said sincerely, follow her example to touch the black cat, let it "whirring" and show its chin.

But Hermione didn't respond.

She pointed to a middle-aged man outside the window who was dragging a suitcase with an anxious face. The man, dressed in a light yellow shirt and tie, was looking around.

"My dad is here!"

She said excitedly, hurriedly closed the book and stuffed it back into her backpack, and took it with both hands.

"Gawain, are you coming along? I think he'll want to thank you personally. ”

Hermione was a little embarrassed to think that she was still gritting her teeth and insisting that she hadn't been separated.

"Next time, I'm not suitable to visit my uncle like this", Gawain shook his head, pointed to the black cat hair on his chest, and shook the cuffs that were scratched by the black cat, "Say hello to me, we'll see you again when school starts."

"Okay. We'll see you at school then. ”

Hermione hesitated, wanting to say something more.

But seeing her father's worried expression, she hurriedly trotted over to the outside of the store.

"What a magical day, isn't it?"

Looking at Hermione's back, Gawain shook his head and gently touched the little black cat.

The black cat looked up at him, "purring" as if it wanted to say "You're right", and it seemed like it was just saying that he was comfortable, "The ghost knows what you want to say".

"Well, I'll just assume that you agree. ”

Gawain smiled and flicked the black cat's head, causing it to raise its right front paw in dissatisfaction and gently pat Gawain's arm with a pink ball of flesh.

It's not a difficult decision to make.

After consulting with his boss and paying 8 gold Galleons, Gawain took the one-year-old and named him "The Abyss". It's not that the black cat symbolizes ominous, wizards, mysteries, evil spirits, and other nonsense, but whenever Gawain looks at it, it always looks back as if it has a feeling.

After all, some short, German with a short temper but a good sense of speech once said it.

"When you're staring into the abyss,

The abyss is staring at you, too."

PS: Hogwarts was formerly the Slytherin family castle of the Big Four.
