Chapter 2: The Magical Chanting Voice
Chapter 2: The Magical Chanting Voice
Jia Le was lying on the bed tossing and turning, unable to sleep, always feeling that he had something to do today. But what it was, he couldn't remember. Thinking that he would have to report to the post and telecommunications bureau tomorrow, he didn't want to be late for the first day of work, after all, his father said that he was going to work, and this first impression was very important, and keeping the contract on time was the foundation of a person's life. Even if you don't have time to wash up and clean yourself, you must go to the appointment on time and don't make people wait for a long time.
Jia Le forced himself to sleep, since he wanted to sleep but couldn't sleep, the best way to do that was to count sheep, which was taught by the teacher in school. The teacher will not deceive people, not to mention that he has also used such a method to really let himself fall asleep. Even though it was after he had done his homework one night, had another morning of class, and had only slept for an hour at noon, that was after counting the sheep!
"One sheep, two sheep, three sheep, four ......" Jia Le lay on the bed and counted the sheep slowly with his eyes closed, not to mention that this method really worked, when he counted to eighty, he was sleepy, and in the haze he heard a burst of chanting, the sound was very vague, but it was very gentle, like a clear spring, never stopped......
Jia Le sat up suddenly, and slapped his forehead violently, how could I forget that I promised to blame the blind man and go to him to listen to the story. The old man was a lonely man, and he liked me to accompany him, and he would be sad if I didn't go, and besides, my father often taught: "A man cannot stand without faith!" "No! I have to go, I can't let my family wait for me all the time. As for going to work tomorrow, as long as I tell the blind man myself, I will not miss anything if I accompany him for less time and come back to sleep early.
The drowsiness that I had just had was gone after Jia Le slapped his forehead, and he got up quickly, and went out to find the blind man without the lamp. I have lived in this village for more than ten years, and I will not get lost in the smears, and as for bringing lights, I will take a look at people when I meet them, so that I can recognize them.
The place where the strange blind man lived was not far away, and it didn't take long for Jia Le to arrive. As soon as he entered the door, Jia Le shouted: "I'm here!" ”
Not even a title, which is rude to outsiders. But the blame blind man doesn't care, there is no need for old acquaintances. Although he really wanted to hear Jia Le, this bastard boy, be able to call him, "Uncle! ”
"Stinky boy, come in directly, why are you shouting so loudly, I'm not deaf!" The strange blind man sat cross-legged on the kang, and although he said reproachful words on his lips, he had a smile on his face.
"Don't say so much, I'm short on time! I'm going to work at the Post and Telecommunications Bureau tomorrow, so I can only stay here with you for a while, and if you want to tell a story, don't be verbose, tell it now! "Jia Le came back very rudely!
"Oh? Going to work at the Post and Telecommunications Bureau tomorrow? For Jia Le's impoliteness, blame the blind man for ignoring it directly.
"Hmmm! My dad told me this afternoon that I'm afraid I won't be able to sleep tomorrow and want to go to bed early! I was already about to fall asleep, and when I heard a burst of chanting, I remembered that I promised you to come to accompany you, so I'm coming! Jia Le was not polite, he took off his shoes and got on the kang as he spoke, and sat down cross-legged as the strange blind man.
"Oh! What kind of chanting are you hearing? It can't be someone else singing! As for Jia Le's remark that he almost fell asleep, the blame blind man didn't care much. But when he heard him, he heard a burst of chanting, and a glimmer of light shone in the blind man's eyes.
It was just a glimmer of light, and Jia Le didn't see it at all. Of course, even if he saw it, he would think that it was reflected by the light, because the strange blind man was facing the light.
"I don't know what I'm chanting, the sound is very vague, but it's very gentle, like a gurgling spring, never stopping, it's very good! But definitely not singing! My parents and I are at home, they can't sing, and other people's songs don't reach my room! Jia Le explained!
After listening to Jia Le's explanation, the light in the blind man's eyes was even better, as if he realized something, but he didn't break it, and he didn't continue to talk about this topic: "Since you have to go to work tomorrow, then I'll simply tell you a story today. You must not be late tomorrow. ”
"Hmmm! I won't be late!" Jia Le replied seriously. The story told by the strange blind man is very good, and every time he listens to the story he tells, Jia Le feels that he has learned something, but if you want to ask him what he has learned, he can't tell him clearly.
Seeing that Jia Le had entered the state, the blind man was no longer verbose, and he started talking directly.
On a hill there was a hut where a monk lived. The bhikshus are truly diligent in their commitment to the Dharma, and they are never slackening. From sunrise to sunset, from sunset to sunrise, he stayed at home, just reciting the Prajnaparamita Sutra with all his heart.
His crisp sound of reading the Bible came from the windows, doorways, and cracks in the walls, echoing in the mountains, like the singing of birds and flowers, like a murmuring spring, all over the foothills.
But it is said that in this mountain, every morning and dusk, there is a seven-year-old cowherd herding cattle at the foot of the mountain, and when he hears the sound of the Lang Lang Sutra, his heart is very happy.
"How wonderful, how good it is!" Every time the shepherd boy went to the foot of the mountain to graze the cattle, he heard the sound of recitation.
Gradually, he became obsessed. One evening, the shepherd boy followed the chanting to the door of the monk and said, "Excuse me, what are you reading, it sounds so good!"
The monk was reading in fascination when he heard a voice calling him, and he looked up and saw a child leaning against the doorpost.
"Son, come in and talk." The monk beckoned.
"What are you reading?" The shepherd boy walked up to the monk and asked again, then leaned against his desk, his eyes shining with wisdom and longing.
"It's the sutra Prajnaparamita. You're too young, and you'll understand it when you're older. The monk replied.
When the shepherd boy heard this, he said, "I don't need to grow up, I understand now!"
"How old are you to understand?" The monks were amazed.
"At seven years old, I think you're a wonderful read!"
The monk praised in his heart: "What a brilliant child, no extraordinary!"
It didn't take long for the boy to take his leave and go back. When the shepherd boy returned to his place, he saw that the cow was gone.
"Ah, I must have gone into the mountains." So the shepherd boy went into the mountains to look for the oxen. He walked a long way, but he didn't find the cow, and the sun had already set, but he was afraid that he would be beaten and scolded by his parents when he went home, so he didn't give him food, so he continued to walk deep into the mountains. The more he walked, the darker it became, and he couldn't help shouting into the mountains: "Ox, cow, where are you?"
Suddenly, there was a noise from the depths of the forest. The shepherd boy thought it was a cow inside, and hurried forward, but he saw a hungry tiger approaching him in front of him.
"Mom! Wow......" The shepherd boy cried out in fright, turned and ran.
But it was too late, and a terrible tragedy struck, and the shepherd boy was eaten by the tiger until there were no bones left.
"What a wretched shepherd boy!" When the strange blind man said this, Jia Le couldn't help but interject.
"Don't talk too much! Listen up! Seeing that Jia Le interrupted his speech, the strange blind man scolded. Under normal circumstances, no matter how naughty Jia Le is, the strange blind man always looks kind with a smile, never scolds him, and does not allow him to interrupt when telling stories!
"Oh!" Hearing the reprimand of the strange blind man, Jia Le turned around his head, agreed, and sat up straighter, pretending to be a good baby.
Seeing that Jia Le looked like a teachable child, the strange blind man continued his story.
The shepherd boy was eaten by the tiger so that there were no bones left. And the bhikshu is still waiting for this extraordinary prodigy with supreme wisdom. Of course, the bhikshu was disappointed. No shepherd boy ever passed by his door again.
After the shepherd boy died, he was reincarnated into the family of an elderly nobleman.
The old man had everything in his house, but he had no children or daughters. When the elder heard that his wife was pregnant, he was so happy that he didn't know what to do. It's just that since my wife became pregnant, she has been nagging something in her mouth, and she looks like she is in a coma, like a dream.
He saw that his wife was always lying on the bed, constantly humming something, and the old man wondered in his heart: Could it be a demon? So he hurriedly asked the servant to ask the physiognomy master to divination.
The phase master occupied it for a long time before he said in a hesitant voice: "I can't tell what the reason is, but it's definitely not a ghost!" Then he panicked and left.
When the elder saw this, he didn't know whether it was evil or auspicious, and he was worried all day long, but he could only resign himself to fate.
One day, when the monk in the mountain came to the door of the elder's house, he heard the humming sound of the elder's wife from a distance, and his heart couldn't help but rejoice. "Isn't this what I recite every day?"
The monk walked quickly into the door of the elder's house, and when he saw the elder with a sad look on his face, he asked, "Excuse me, who is reciting the Buddhist scriptures in your house?"
"What? What?" The elder didn't react for a moment, just looked at the monk in surprise.
"Who is reciting Buddhist scriptures in your house?" The monk asked again.
"No one recites Buddhist scriptures."
"I'm very familiar with that voice, there must be someone in your mansion reciting Buddhist scriptures!" As the monk spoke, he sat down, and the elder was inexplicably upset.
"That's my wife's illness and she's humming," said the old man.
"Your wife is reciting the Prajnaparamita Sutra!"
"What Prajnaparamita?"
"It's a Buddhist scripture."
"But really?"
"You should rest assured that your wife is not suffering from any illness, but is reciting the Prajnaparamita Sutra, and she must be pregnant with a Buddhist disciple!" The elder was overjoyed and hurriedly told the whole family, and everyone was overjoyed.
In the blink of an eye, it was time for the baby to be born.
As soon as the baby came out of the mother's womb, he went down from the delivery bed to the ground, kneeling with his hands folded and chanting the Prajnaparamita Sutra in his mouth. The whole family looked at the baby in amazement, and then looked back at the elder's wife, and saw that she was no longer humming, and she was completely awake, as if she had woken up from a long dream, and had no idea what had happened to her.
The elder hurried to the temple and asked the monks to come and see his son.
When the monks came to the elder's house, they all looked at the baby on the ground in amazement, attracted by the sound of his chanting with a continuous reading tape. All the monks bowed to the elder and said, "This is a real disciple of the Buddha, don't interfere with him." Raise it well, and this child can be a teacher for all living beings in the world, including us bhikshus. ”
Seven years have passed. In his previous life, the shepherd boy had become a noble son, but he had fully understood the meaning of the Sutra by reciting only the Prajnaparamita Sutra and had memorized all the scriptures at the same time. It can be said that no one can compare, and the wisdom is outstanding. What is even more impressive is that he corrected and supplemented all the original mistakes or missing words in the scriptures, completing the deficiencies in the original scriptures.
Therefore, the monks and monks recited the scriptures with him and listened to him explain the teachings.
From then on, the elder's son practiced even more, preaching and teaching the Dharma without slackening, behaving and acting as a teacher, and often enlightening his disciples so that others could develop Mahayana minds. His footprints have traveled all over the city, the countryside, the streets, and the alleys, and he has his disciples wherever he goes. He has inspired 84,000 people with Mahayana minds, and 500 famous disciples who have studied Buddhism directly.
The Buddha told Ananda, "Ananda, the shepherd boy at that time was my predecessor, and that bhikshu was the predecessor of the Buddha Kasya." ”
When the story was finished, the strange blind man got up and patted Jia Le, who was immersed in the story, and said, "I'm done, you can go!" Go home early and go to bed. ”
Jia Le said to the strange blind man as if he hadn't heard enough: "That's it, that ......"
Without waiting for Jia Le to finish speaking, the strange blind man patted him on the head: "Don't say or ask, even if you hear it, think about it yourself!" People cannot stand without faith! You must not be late tomorrow. ”
Seeing that the strange blind man said this, Jia Le couldn't continue to speak, and he couldn't ask about the incomprehensible places, so he had to say goodbye to the strange blind man and go home.
It's also strange to say that Jia Le, who had to count sheep to sleep, fell down on the bed and fell asleep directly after listening to the story from the strange blind man, as for the faint Buddha light flickering on the surface of his body, he couldn't know, he only knew that he had become the shepherd boy in the dream......
