Chapter Thirty-Four: Stepping on the War Horse
The Young Emperor Honorius stood there blankly, his gaze not yet withdrawn from his mother's heartless face, he looked in a daze, wondering what he wanted to see or read from that face, or simply because he could not accept the fact that his mother was putting him to death!
"Why do you want to?" his eyes were full of doubts, and the nineteen-year-old Honorius really couldn't figure it out.
The mother raised one arm and pointed straight at the two "divine beasts" in front of her, and at the same time looked straight back at him with an unquestionable domineering gaze: "Rush up, aren't you holding a sword in your hand?"
He shook his head desperately, shaking down the tears in his eyes, and those hot transparent droplets of water made him shiver as they flowed over his face that was cold with fear.
The general was blindfolded, and he looked at the Queen Mother Alia in shock, and Arya felt his stunned gaze and immediately became angry. She shook her head, her eyes like two crazy flames, and looked at Stirico fiercely, "Don't you know what you should do?"
Stillico tensed, but he immediately came to his senses, so he raised his right fist and slammed it on his left chest, while lowering his head and shouting, "Yes!"
But there was a strange sting in his heart—the woman he loved spoke to him in such a tone, and at such a life-threatening moment, he was nothing more than a courtier willing to die for her!
The belief that a courtier must be faithful has always been deeply rooted in his heart. Therefore, in spite of the moment's injury, Stirico immediately put away his personal feelings, turned away, drew his saber, swung it high above his head, and shouted:
"Rush up with the Holy Driver!"
The cavalrymen immediately understood, and they all drew their swords from their sheaths, raised them above their heads, grasped the reins with the other hand, and rushed forward. As they ran past the animal trainers, one of the clever horsemen grabbed the large net in their hands, and after pulling with another cavalryman in front of them, he hurried his horses down and ran to the front.
Taking advantage of the fact that the eyes of his subjects were taken away by the cavalry, Stirico hurriedly leaned down and whispered to the young emperor Honorius: "Your Majesty quickly ride to my horse, I will take you to rush up, you just swing your sword and slash, and the 'divine beast' will eventually be subdued by me!"
Honorius's eyes suddenly lit up, he looked up at his father-in-law with great gratitude, and when he saw that the general who had sworn allegiance nodded vigorously to him again, he regained his spirits and nodded back.
The Emperor put one foot on the pedal of his father's horse, and Stirico stretched out an arm and lifted it up to sit firmly on his horse.
"Wow, father-in-law, your war horse is so tall!" After sitting down, Honorius felt his vision widen in an instant, and his gaze was above the heads of all his subjects, as if it were level with the triumphal arch directly opposite.
"He was given to me by the Emperor, your father, and he is the only horse in the Empire!" Stirico tried his best to cling his whole chest to the back of his son, which made the timid emperor finally feel stable and steady. "We'll chase the 'Divine Beasts' with his foot strength and drive them back to the gladiatorial arena directly!"
"Okay, father-in-law, you can take me to charge once!" The courage and passion that came out of nowhere made the young emperor let go of his voice and shouted like this.
"In the name of the Roman Empire, under the command of our Emperor Honorius, all soldiers who have the courage to encircle and suppress the 'Divine Beast' without causing their lives to be harmed will be rewarded!" the general let go of his throat, his voice as bright as a bronze bell, and announced in a high-pitched order.
"Yes!"
The soldiers rushed up and surrounded the two "divine beasts" that had just run through the Arc de Triomphe.
The cavalry took the lead, and they quickly pounced, grabbed the shields from the hands of the infantrymen, and came to a position three or five meters away from the "divine beast", and smashed the shields to the ground with great force. The heavy metal shield landed with a loud "bang" that startled the golden retriever that was running in front of him and jumped up from the ground.
The shield formed a sturdy barrier that shone brightly, completely cutting off the escape route of the "Divine Beast". The little white tiger made a gesture as if it was about to jump up and jump over the shield, but it was firmly pressed to the ground by the big white tiger with the thick soles of its feet.
"Mom!" the little white tiger cried out unwillingly as he scratched the ground with his tiger claws.
"We can't escape, now you can die!" White Tiger Mother said in a low voice, her mind spun fast at this moment: "Don't mess around, I don't want them to hurt you, so you must not provoke these people!"
The infantrymen, armed with javelins, bows and arrows, and swords, rushed forward and prepared for battle behind the barrier formed by the shields. When the general rode up to the front and saw the pair of white tiger mother and son who suddenly stopped their feet, he and the emperor, like all the soldiers, showed a face full of confusion.
"Father-" Honorius looked up at Stirrico in bewilderment.
Stirico stared at the behemoth King of the White Tiger, and he was surprised to find that this "divine beast" was also watching himself—she was staring at the general with a sharp and majestic gaze that seemed to be able to penetrate the depths of people's hearts.
"Slowly drive the 'Divine Beast' back to the gladiatorial arena, and don't alarm them!"
After making eye contact for a moment, Stirico suddenly felt a sense of weakness in his heart that he had never felt before. He guessed that his face must have turned pale at this moment, and his heart was beating more and more flustered and violent, so that his breathing was a little short.
The soldiers shouted "Obey!" in unison, and then held their shields and weapons, and slowly approached the two "divine beasts" step by step.
The general pressed his numb lips to the emperor's ear and whispered to him, "With the help of the subtle power of the Creator, the 'Divine Beast' can occasionally communicate with the hearts and minds of humans. Now, I seem to have been given this once-in-a-lifetime privilege, for I can vaguely read what the 'Divine Beasts' are thinking at the moment—lo and behold, they are retreating in the footsteps of the soldiers, and the Tiger King is still staring into my eyes, which is so unusual!"
"Yes, her eyes are the brightest of crimson gold, so beautiful! they are flashing violently, as if they are talking!"
"The message in her eyes is exactly what she is doing at the moment: she just wants us to perceive that she and her cubs have no intention of harming us at all—my God, how can I see some kind of rare wisdom in that look? I really know that she did this out of a wisdom far superior to animal instinct, but as an animal, even if she is a godsend, she should never have such a strange ability!"
"We must not hurt them!" the Emperor pleaded softly, "You know, I've always wanted to surprise Andy—"
"The surprise will soon be delivered to the little painter safe and sound, please rest assured, Your Majesty!"
Seeing that the two "divine beasts" were driven back to the gladiatorial arena little by little, the general felt relieved.
Now, he no longer holds his adopted son so tightly as he holds his beloved child. Honorius regained his usual lively nature, twisting back and forth mischievously on the horse's back, feeling the pleasure of the horse's powerful flanks rubbing against his legs: "Father-in-law, this horse's heart beats so strongly!" he suddenly cried.
"It looks like there's a grumpy Thor in there!" the general quipped, and laughed out loud.
He slowly drove off his horse and followed the soldiers into the gladiatorial arena. The subjects were stunned by this scene, and they set off an earth-shattering cheer like a frenzy, shouting:
"Long live Rome, long live His Majesty the Emperor"!
