Chapter 544: Changing Heads and Passing on the Sutra
There, he observed customs, propagated Dafa, and people with insight said that he had already attained the first fruits.
His appearance makes people feel kind and high, and he is compassionate at the first sight.
And he went again to the kingdom of Java. The Queen Mother dreamed at night that a monk came by air, and the next day Varman arrived in the capital.
When the Queen Mother knew that he was not a mortal, she immediately summoned him, gave him the sacraments, and received the five precepts from him.
The Queen Mother felt that the fate of the earth had been broken, and she said to the king, "The cause of the previous life, you and I have to be mother and son in this life. I have taken the vows, but you don't believe in Buddhism, so I'm afraid that the karma between this life and the next life will be interrupted here. ”
The king was in a cold sweat and forced by his mother's order to take the ordination.
After a long time, it also gave birth to a lot of sincerity.
When a neighbouring country suddenly invaded the border, the king was in a state of great contradiction, and he thought about it and could not make a choice, so he went to Vaman: "If a thief comes to insult us by force, and if he fights against him, he will suffer many casualties, and if he does not resist, his country will fall to the enemy." The disciple has no way to judge, where to go, only to obey the master's orders. ”
"When a thief comes to invade, he should resist it," said Vaman, who pondered for a moment, "but be merciful and not think of harming others." ”
So the king himself led his troops to resist, and as soon as the battle began, the thieves scattered and fled.
The king was struck by an arrow in his foot, and Vamana took water and cast a spell on him, and washed him for the night.
After that, the king's faith deepened day by day, and finally he drew the mind of becoming a monk.
He told his ministers: "I want to live in the Famen, and the Qing and others can choose another master." ”
"Your Majesty," the ministers knelt on the ground and prayed with tears, "If Your Majesty abandons the country, who will the people rely on? Your Majesty is merciful, and if we do not have mercy on all sentient beings, we must ask for death to show our sincerity. ”
When the king saw them say this, it made sense when he thought about it, the Buddha said that if you only seek to free yourself from the dust net and ignore the common people, wouldn't it be against your original intention?
So he took the opportunity to say, "All the secretaries, please get up." Qing and the others are reasonable, and I agreed, but there were three conditions: first, I wish to believe in Buddhism in the country, second, I wish that all killing activities in the country will be stopped, and third, I wish that all my savings and possessions will be used to help the poor, the sick and the sick. ”
The ministers shouted long live and prostrated continuously, so that all the people of the whole country were ordained with Vadharma.
The king also built a house for Vaman, and delivered timber himself, and injured his toe, and Vamada cast a spell on him to heal him.
The fame of Vamma has spread far and wide, and countries have come to invite them.
The famous masters of Song Jingcheng, Huiguan, Huicong and others, heard of his demeanor from afar, so that Yuan Jia met Emperor Wen in September of the fourth year, and begged him to invite Varman.
Emperor Wen ordered Jiaozhou Assassin Shi to send a ship to greet him, and Huiguanwen wrote a letter to Varman and the king, asking the mage to come to the Song Dynasty and promote Taoism.
When Vamana saw that the domestic Taoism had been completed, he had the intention of traveling far away. Before Song's invitation arrived, he had already set off with the merchant ship, and initially wanted to go to a small country.
As a result, the ship sailed downwind and arrived in Guangzhou.
Emperor Wen heard that the imperial decree was issued along the prefecture and county along the road to fund him to go to Beijing.
Varman went all the way, passing through Siheung, and stopped for about a year.
There is Hushi Mountain in Shixing, and the lonely peak rises alone, and Varman said that he is similar to the Vulture Mountain that Shakyamuni said, so he renamed it Vulture Mountain.
He set up a separate meditation room outside the mountain temple to meditate.
The meditation room is a few miles away from the temple, but whenever it is sold out, Vamana will definitely arrive on time.
He walked in the rain and was not wet, he walked in the mud without being contaminated, the monks and laymen all saw this and were in awe, there was a treasure moon hall in the temple, Varman made a Buddha statue on the north wall of the main hall, after the statue was completed, it was lit every night.
Taishou Cai Maozhi deeply admired him, Maozhi was about to die, and Varman personally went to visit him and said the Fa for him.
Later, Cai's family often dreamed that he and the monks were listening to the teachings of Varman in the monastery.
There were originally many tigers on Vulture Mountain, but since Varman came, the tiger plague has been extinct.
He sometimes encountered a tiger on his way, and he pressed the tiger's head with a tin rod, fiddled with it, and then left.
Such mountain people from near and far have come to Buddhism.
Varman practiced in the meditation room, and once did not come out for several days, the monk was afraid of an accident and sent a little novice to visit.
As soon as the little novice entered the door, he saw a white lion climbing up the pillar of the house, and the sky was filled with blue lotus.
Shami cried out in horror, thinking that the lion had hurt Vama, and went forward to drive him away, but suddenly he saw nothing.
A few years later, Emperor Wen ordered Huiguan to urge, and Vamana went on a ship to arrive in the capital in the first month of the eighth year of Yuanjia.
Emperor Wen personally received him and greeted him warmly.
When the ritual was over, he asked, "The disciple often wants to fast and not kill, but he feels that this is a martyrdom and cannot be realized. The Master has traveled thousands of miles to educate our country, and I would like to ask for more advice. ”
"The Tao is in the heart, not in the appearance, in oneself, not in others. Moreover, the emperor and the puppet have different cultivation methods. If the emperor takes the four seas as his home and the people as his son, and if he sends a good word, the scholars and daughters will be very happy, and if he does a good job, the people and gods will be harmonious. The punishment is not cruel, and the service is not excessive, so that the wind and rain are at the right time, the cold and the warmth are appropriate, and the grain and hemp are flourishing. If you fast in this way, fasting will be considered great, and if you don't kill in this way, virtue will be great. Who cares about eating less meat for half a day and preserving more birds?" Vamanfa commented.
"Well," Emperor Wen sighed with his beard in his hand after hearing this: "The laity don't know the reason, and the monks are confined to the near religion. Those who do not know the far-reaching principles say that the supreme Tao is false, and those who are confined to the close teachings are easily bound by the text of the passages. As for what the Master said, it can really be said to be enlightened, and I can talk to the Master about the Great Dao. ”
Emperor Wen let him live in the Gihuan Temple, and made a rich offering, and for a time the princes and nobles, celebrities and gentlemen, came to ask for advice.
After a little preparation, Varman began to lecture on the Lotus Sutra and the Ten Lands.
On the day of the lecture, cars crowded around the temple, and people came and went.
Varma's demeanor is natural, and the discussion is wonderful, and the listeners are all impressed.
In addition to lecturing, he also translated classics such as "The Bodhisattva's Good Precepts".
In the summer of the eighth year of Yuanjia, Varman went to live in Dinglin Temple.
When the Dharma is spoken, the devotees gather flowers and fill the seats, but the Vamana sitting, the flowers are very bright, and the people are extremely reverent, and they are treated with holy sacraments.
After the summer, Varman returned to Gihuanji Temple. His fate with Song Di is over, and he doesn't want to stay for a long time.
On September 28, before the Chinese food was finished, he got up and went back to the pavilion.
The disciples didn't care at first, but when they came in to see, the master had already passed away for a long time.
In order to follow the Fa-rectification, he begged Nabhadra to abandon his home and abscond, and go to distant places to seek teachers and visit friends.
He gave up the hairpin ornaments, clothed and sparsely fed, and concentrated on studying the scriptures in the monk's house, and by the time he was ordained, he had already penetrated the three Tibetan scriptures and laws. Bhadra was a modest and prudent person, and he was extremely courteous to his teachers.
Soon after, he said goodbye to his Hinayana teacher and switched to Mahayana.
As soon as the teacher saw it, he asked him to explore the scripture box, which is like the ancient baby's grasp of the week, to measure whether it will become a tool in the future, he stretched out his hand to get the "Great Product" and "Huayan", the teacher was very approving, and sighed: "You are not shallow in the Mahayana fate!"
Since then, he has been immersed in the sutras, reciting and explaining, and no one can argue with it, because of his profound attainments, it is called "Mahayana", that is, "Mahayana".
After receiving the bodhisattva vows, Bhadra left his hometown of Zhongtianzhu and traveled to the lion country and other places, and his reputation gradually rose, and he received a lot of offerings. Halfway through the boat, the wind stopped and the water stopped, and looking at the vast expanse around them, the whole boat gradually despaired.
Bhadra stood up and said, "Don't be alarmed, if we worship the Buddhas of the Ten Directions and praise Guanyin Bodhisattva, we will surely move them." ”
"Hey, take a break, if the Buddha had a spirit, he wouldn't let the wind stop. Stop dreaming and sit with us and wait for death. ”
The unBuddhist merchants on the ship had the courage to refuse.
Bhadra stood alone in the bow of the ship, facing west, and prayed and repented.
In a short time, the trade winds began to rise, the clouds were thick, and it rained heavily, and the people on board rejoiced in the rain, and repented to him and asked for refuge.
In the fifteenth year of Yuanjia, Badra arrived in Guangzhou, and Emperor Wen of Song sent an envoy to greet him.
When he arrived in the capital, he sent famous monks Huiyan and Huiguan to wash his dust in the new pavilion in the suburbs.
Everyone admired him for his calm expression and his good temperament, and even though he spoke through an interpreter, his joy was extraordinary.
Bhadra lived in the Gisun Temple, the generalist Yan Yanzhi personally came to visit, and Emperor Wen personally invited to meet, so that the distance inside and outside the capital, the crown of the carriage and horses looked at each other before and after, and the celebrities and scholars came to visit.
The general Liu Yikang, the king of Pengcheng, and Liu Yixuan, the prime minister of Nanqiao, all worshipped him as a teacher.
Subsequently, the monks asked him to translate the scriptures, and also gathered the monks, and translated the "Miscellaneous Ahan Sutra" in the Gihuan Temple, the "Dharma Drum Sutra" in the Dong'an Temple, and the "Shenghu" and "Lenga Sutra" in Danyang County, at that time more than 700 people participated in it, Baoyun interpreted, Huiguan recorded, and the grand occasion was unprecedented.
King Qian went out of Jingzhou and asked Badra to go with him.
In Jingzhou, he lived in Xin Temple, and translated many classics, such as "The King of Sanssouciac", "Past and Present Cause and Effect", "Amitayus", "Mud", "Yang Di Moluo", "Successive Liberation of Paramita", "Present Buddha Name Sutra", "The First Righteousness of the Five Phases", "Eight Auspiciousness", etc., a total of more than 100 volumes.
He thought he was not good at Chinese, and he was afraid that he would make a mistake, so he felt ashamed, and repented in the morning and evening, and only asked Guanyin to help him in the dark.
One night, he dreamed that a man in white came to him with a sword in his hand and a human head and asked, "Why are you worried?"
He told the details, and the man in white smiled: "Don't worry. ”
So he cut off his head with his sword, put a new head on it, and made him turn it back and forth: "It will not hurt."
He replied, "It doesn't hurt." ”
The man in white floated away, he woke up suddenly, suddenly felt happy, and spoke Chinese as fluently as Sanskrit, so he decided to start speaking, and the monks and lay listeners were all convinced.
In the last years of Yuanjia, King Qian had many strange dreams.
Bhadra said to him, "There will be trouble in the capital. ”
Sure enough, less than a year later, a rebellion broke out.
In the early years of Emperor Xiaowu's filial piety, King Qian intended to rebel.
When Bhadra saw him, his face was sad, and before he could speak, the king inquired about the reason, and he earnestly admonished him, and said with tears streaming down his face, "You will certainly not be able to draw anything, and the poor monk will not be able to follow." ”
He impatiently stretched out his hand to stop the Bhadra.
