Chapter 14: Greg Lestrade

A suburb of the City of London

The bodies of the three carriages were parked alone on the side of the road next to the suburban road, and a group of policemen in dark blue uniforms surrounded the carriage, holding pens and paper in their hands, writing and drawing to record their findings.

Squatting next to a wagon, Sergeant Greg with a dark brown pipe in his mouth, said to the officer with a pen and paper, "The carriage is not damaged, someone deliberately took the horses and threw the carriage here." ”

Greg left the carriage and came to the edge of the short wheel print left by the carriage: "The traces found in the factory are very deep, the carriage is obviously carrying large goods and leaving, and the things in the factory are not missing, so I think it must be the children in the factory who are transporting." ”

Greg will point to the mark on the ground: "The traces here are very shallow, it looks like these damn guys put the kids somewhere and drove the car here!"

The young police officer on the side buried his head in recording what Greg said: "Captain Greg, who is the law protecting? Those rich people who use child labor as cheap labor? Maybe those murderers are rescuing child laborers, I heard that child laborers can only sleep four hours a day, should we really arrest this group of people?"

Greg clenched his pipe in his hand, his brows furrowed tightly, and his fingers pointed fiercely at the officer's chest: "Please remember who you are now, Claude! If you say such irresponsible words again, then please take off your uniform and get out of the police station!"

Claude looked at Greg stubbornly: "So we should protect the abusers of child labor, and go to the people who rescue child laborers?"

Greg rubbed his hand against his rough beard: "How do you know it's deliverance, and not another kind of slavery?"

Greg raised his voice: "Even if he was really trying to free the child laborers, I would catch them and put them in jail! because they are breaking the laws of the UK! No one can trample on the law because of good intentions!!"

Claude looked at the roaring Greg with a gloomy face: "So you let them abuse the children?"

Greg didn't pay any more attention to Claude, but turned around and walked towards the carriage, and said to Claude in an indifferent voice, "Claude, I think you should take a long vacation. Just the clenched fists showed that Greg wasn't as cold as he appeared.

At night, a thick fog fills every corner of the city, and the lights are like a bewildering topaz. Sheriff Greg made his way through the foggy streets to a dilapidated building in a corner of the downtown area.

Greg walked into the room, put his police hat on the table, sat down on a stool next to the table, and sighed deeply.

"What's wrong with you, dear?" a tall lady came out of the bedroom, with slightly curly pale blonde hair, and a beautiful face covered by a large dark perm scar, wearing a plain dress with a faint patch on it, perhaps because of the skillful technique of the sewer, so that the patch would not be easily seen by others.

Greg frowned and looked at the lady who came out of the bedroom: "Susa, have you read today's newspaper?"

Susa came to Gregor's side and reached out to take his uniform coat off him, "What about the Ruiz factory?"

Greg cooperated with Susa to take off her uniform, and watched her hang her uniform and police hat on the nail on the door: "Yes, Claude and I had a fight today because of this incident..."

Susa hung up her clothes and walked over to the table to pour a glass of water for Gregor: "Really, the young police officer you think so much of, why are you arguing?"

Greg took the cup, raised his head and drank it down, then put it on the table: "He thinks that if the criminal is rescuing child laborers, we shouldn't arrest him!"

Susa silently filled the water glass: "So, you reprimanded him?"

Greg nodded: "Of course, as a police officer, he would feel that the righteous crime is innocent, and I reprimanded him severely! He was not convinced, and openly contradicted me as his boss! So... I asked him to go on a long vacation!"

Susa walked up behind Greg, hugged him, and whispered in his ear, "I think you may be a little too impatient, Claude is a good boy, you should patiently guide him and let him go the right way." ”

Greg took Susa's outstretched hands from his shoulders: "I think so, in fact, I regretted it after I finished speaking, I shouldn't have said too heavy words." ”

Greg stood up, held Susa's face, and looked deeply at the hot scar on Susa's face: "I even think that maybe what he said is right, these scumbags who abuse orphans should be damned!

Susa looked at the tangled Greg distressedly: "Don't be like this... Gregg, it's been many years, and I've never cared. We grew up together in an orphanage, and I know better than you who you are, but you're the patron saint of London, Sheriff Gregg!"

Greg let go of the hand holding Susa's face and sat down on the stool decadently: "Come on, I'm some kind of protector, the appearance of a ripper in the city of London is enough to make me anxious, and now there is another massacre, but I can't solve the case for a long time, I can even hear them give me a nickname called "Impotent Roar", damn it!"

Susa squatted down to Greg for an interview and gently kissed Gregg's forehead: "Forget him, Gregg, you will always be the almighty Sheriff Greg in my heart, the protector of all London!"

Greg hugged Susa hard: "Thank God for letting me meet you, otherwise I don't know what I would have become!"

Susa gently put her hand on Greg's waist and buried her head in Greg's arms: "No, it should be me who is glad, it is the Almighty Lord who has saved me......"

Time seemed to stop flowing, and the dilapidated hut, the dim oil lamp, the biting cold wind outside, and the muddy fog seemed to be unable to separate the two people who hugged each other tightly, and the two people who hugged each other seemed to want to do this until the end of the world.
