Chapter 8: The Sorting Hat

The time on the train was still quite interesting. Pen ~ fun ~ pavilion www.biquge.info

Hermione and Luna argued from time to time, and Casto and Ginny sat by the window with interest, occasionally interjecting.

Castor, though, turned his head sideways to look at Hermione's small face. She starts with a lot of theories from books, as if trying to convince them to abandon their ridiculous ideas. But Luna seems to be in a trance, but stubbornly sticks to her beliefs.

They are competing against each other.

But Luna was smarter than Hermione had imagined - she had her own knowledge, but a lot of it was based on her own practice, or intuitively, and from miscellaneous books.

In short, contrary to orthodoxy.

Castor noticed that Hermione had been glaring. She seemed to think that the things in the books must be correct, but she had only read the orthodox books. So, for some of the things that are out of the ordinary, Hermione's evidence is not enough to prove them wrong.

Unfortunately, Luna is good at the weird stuff.

So they finally went to a truce. Hermione clutched her arms tightly, and it looked like she wouldn't let go for years; Luna's face remained calm.

The train slowed down, and Casto was stunned. The three girls in the cubicle also looked a little surprised, and it seemed to them that time had passed too quickly.

It was already dark.

Castor was pushed out the door by the girls. They had to change into their robes, which sounded like it would take a lot of time.

The train finally stopped.

The students pushed and shoved, rushed to the door, and descended to a small, dark platform. Casto poked his head out of the carriage and took a deep breath of the night chill.

A lamp flickered above the students' heads, and he heard a familiar voice shouting, "First graders!" First-year students are here! ”

"Don't go to Slytherin." Hermione said goodbye to Casto a little differently.

He couldn't see her face clearly, but he could hear the seriousness in the girl's tone.

Although Castor is in the second year, it seems that the new students have to follow the path that the founder once walked. They followed Hagrid, stumbling and stumbling, seemingly descending a steep and narrow path. It was pitch black on both sides of the path, and Casto noticed that it was a dense wood.

Hardly anyone spoke, and they followed the giant with some fear, not knowing how long they would have to endure such darkness.

Only Casto whispers to Luna and Ginny about Hagrid - he had only met Harry once at Harry's birthday party in the Leaky Cauldron room last year - but he also knew the giant's innocence and kindness.

Ginny had heard her brothers talk about him, but she still found it a little scary to see him.

"Turn this corner, and you'll soon see Hogwarts for the first time." Hagrid shouted back suddenly, and Casto held his breath.

This was followed by a loud "Oh! ”

At the end of the narrow path, a black lake suddenly unfolded. On the high hillside on the other side of the lake rises a majestic castle with spires and windows twinkling under the stars.

"No more than four people per boat!" Hagrid exclaimed, pointing to a group of small boats moored to the shore. Castor, Ginny, and Luna get on the boat. On shore, a skinny gray-haired boy cradles his camera and frantically looks at Hogwarts under the stars, but in the end he finds that almost all the boats are full. Thankfully, Colin spotted an acquaintance on a ship that he had seen in the wand shop and hurriedly ran up to avoid embarrassment.

A group of small boats immediately rowed across the mirror-like lake. Everyone was silent, staring at the huge castle that reached into the sky. There was a continuous clicking sound in their ears, but it was selectively ignored in the face of this magnificent sight.

But when Castor's boat rowed across the middle of the lake, he remembered something.

"Can you take a picture of us?" Casto asked Colin eagerly.

The little boy was stunned for a moment, then happily raised his camera, leaving the smiling faces of the boys and girls forever.

.

But for most people, the first joy of seeing Hogwarts faded.

As the boat approached the cliff, they bowed their heads and passed smoothly through the ivy curtain that covered the front of the cliff to the secluded open entrance—not very well, for Colin was turning his back and taking a glimpse in the direction of the station—and he did not hear Hagrid's cry in the enthusiasm of the photograph, and if it had not been for Castor holding him back, he might have slammed into the rock wall and fallen into the lake.

After a pitch-black tunnel, they arrive at the underground docks of Hogwarts. They climbed another tunnel into the rock, and finally reached a flat, damp meadow in the shadow of the castle.

The young wizards finally climbed a flight of stone steps, and Hagrid knocked on a large oak door.

Casor spotted Professor McGonagall standing behind the open door. She was dressed in the same emerald green robe as she had been in Ollivanders' shop, but her expression was more serious than ever.

Ginny's desire to say hello to Colin immediately vanished.

Casto didn't think it would be a good idea to have such a serious teacher guide the new students—and it was, and she welcomed them with a short but warm welcome, telling them that the sorting ceremony was coming.

The little wizards immediately became nervous.

Instead of going straight to the hustle and bustle of the restaurant, they came to a small, empty room at the other end of the hall.

They need to prepare.

"Do you know how the sorting ceremony works? Examination? Ginny asked in a low voice. The room where they were waiting was full of whispers.

"I don't know, dear sister." Casto said jokingly, which made Ginny glare at him angrily.

But Ginny knew for a moment what she had to do. She took a deep breath to calm the tension.

Colin looked back and forth at the two of them in shock.

But Castor is also a little annoyed, which is a very mysterious question.

"Hogwarts, a History of the School" even has to talk about such trivial things as the ceiling of the dining hall being enchanted and the sky outside, not to mention what the sorting ceremony is; He had asked almost everyone around him who was in the know, but all of them had a mysterious look on their faces—even Hermione, and Casto didn't know when she had learned to be humorous.

It's like enchanting a question that will never be known to the new Hogwarts students in order to satisfy someone's bad tastes.

If, as Fred and George say, defeat the trolls - Casto believes he can get a perfect score. But if it's a test spell - he can't let the magic flow out of his body under normal circumstances.

But Castor was already jumping on the bandwagon.

.

It's a magical, wonderful, palatial restaurant. The rest of the academy was already seated around four long tables, lit by thousands of candles floating in the air. Four tables are lined with glittering gold plates and goblets. At the top of the cafeteria is a long table with the teachers' seats.

Professor McGonagall brought the first-year students over there and had them line up in front of the entire upper class, with the teachers behind them. The candlelight flickered, and hundreds of faces staring at them were like pale lanterns. The ghosts also mingled among the students, glowing with a hazy silver light.

Castor was disappointed, though.

All he needs is a hat that talks and sings.

After all, it's absolutely safe. The hat says so itself.

No challenge at all.

Castor stood gracefully, waiting for Professor McGonagall to read his name. But his name seems to be at the end. He waited in silence as Ginny and Colin went to Gryffindor and Luna went to Ravenclaw.

Harry and Ron weren't there.

Gradually, there are fewer and fewer people around. He stood alone in the eyes of all people, suppressing his heartbeat.

Professor McGonagall had finished reading the names on the list.

Finally-

"We have a special freshman today. For some special reasons, he only enrolled this year and will be a member of the second year. Dumbledore said clearly behind him—his teeth seemed to have been healed.

"Casto. Black. Professor McGonagall pulled out another list and pronounced the name at the end.

Casto ignored the whispers. Unconsciously he paced forward slowly, sat down on the quadrangular stool, and put on the hat that was absolutely safe.

"Incredible, absolutely pureblood, changeable, independent and follow their own interests. Of course, there is courage—" a babbling voice came from the darkness, "but I dare say you—"

As he spoke, the hat tightened tighter and tighter, as if an invisible hand was desperately clutching it.

The sound of something falling.

Castor only had time to tilt his head.

Something hit his skull.

.

Casto was almost knocked unconscious. He tried to stay awake as much as he could, and immediately took off his sorting hat, his right hand covering his aching head.

A long strip of something fell to the floor of the hall.

A crisp sound that echoed throughout the hall.

It was a glittering silver sword with a dazzling egg-sized ruby on the hilt.

The hat was pinched in his left hand and made an incredible sound.

"Oh, well, sword, kid, yes—" it whispered, "only a true Gryffindor can draw this sword." ”

"Gryffindor!" The Sorting Hat announced loudly.

Casto staggered it down, ignoring the sword that had fallen to the ground.

He seemed to hear enthusiastic cheers coming from a table.

But Castor spread his right hand out and glanced at it as he walked past.

Red-black bloodstains.

He smiled silently, and his warm smile reopened as he stepped into the arms of the twins.
