The Gezhouba Water Conservancy Hub is located at the end of the Three Gorges of the Yangtze River in Yichang City, Hubei Province, China, 2.3 kilometers downstream of Nanjin Pass, the outlet of the Three Gorges of the Yangtze River. The total length of the dam crest is meters, the maximum dam height is 53.8 meters, the control basin area is 1 million square kilometers, and the total storage capacity is 1.58 billion cubic meters.
Historically, the Gezhouba project was divided into two phases. The first phase of the project includes the power station and sluice gate of the second and third rivers and the second and third ship locks, sand sluice gates and other water retaining structures of the three rivers. The Erjiang Power Station is equipped with 7 hydro-generator units, with the capacity of units 1 and 2 being 170,000 kilowatts, and the remaining five units having a capacity of 125,000 kilowatts. The construction began on December 30, 1970, and the river began to be intercepted on January 3, 1981. On June 21, the Sanjiang Ship Lock was officially opened to navigation, and on July 31, the No. 1 unit of the Erjiang Power Station was connected to the grid for power generation.
The second phase of the project includes the Dajiang Power Station, the No. 1 Ship Lock, the Dajiang Sand Gate and the concrete retaining dam. The power station is designed to have 14 units with a capacity of 125,000 kilowatts.
In 1988, the Gezhouba project was completed, with a total designed installed capacity of 2.715 million kilowatts and an average annual power generation of 14.1 billion kilowatt hours.
At present, Gezhouba has received more resources from the state, so the two-phase project of blocking the river and building the dam and reservoir was completed in July 1982, and the rest is mainly the installation of hydropower units.
The hydropower units of Gezhouba Hydropower Station were originally dominated by a single unit with a capacity of 125,000 kilowatts ~ 170,000 kilowatts, but the installed capacity of this unit is undoubtedly relatively small, so four 350,000 kilowatt hydropower units made in the United States were introduced. In addition, with the addition of 125,000 kilowatts of domestic development and production, the total installed capacity of Gezhouba has increased to 3 million kilowatts.
At present, the large units used in hydropower stations are only in the hands of a very small number of developed countries, for example, the United States currently uses 700,000 units of large hydropower stations, but it does not consider exporting to China. Because, knowing China's copycat capabilities, the United States will definitely dismantle and reverse engineer the 700,000 kilowatt hydropower unit after getting it.
In fact, the Gezhouba project is to find a way forward for the Three Gorges Project on the Yangtze River and accumulate experience.
