Chapter Forty-Seven Returns
Returning Christina, still recalling Collina's words: "
Another issue that needs our attention during the preparation phase is diet, or rather, nutrition. Referees shouldn't be ascetics, but I think diet is very important for those of us who have to work out our athletes, whether it's before, after, or in normal times.
And athletes, as people know, lead an athletelike life......
I'm not a doctor, but I think I'm still interested in the experience of "diet".
First of all, the simplest point is that we have to get our body fat a little bit in the right way. Cars need the right fuel, and our body is equivalent to a car with very advanced performance, and we also need to choose the best "fuel". It is on this premise that in recent years, with my assistance, the evolution of the referees' diet has been very significant. For example, not so long ago, white rice and grilled steak were considered the "right food", but now there is a consensus that this is an absolutely wrong idea, especially for the meal before the game. In fact, meat is the slowest digested of all foods, so they can't provide the necessary energy for the body's organs and therefore can't meet the demands of the game.
An athlete's diet, or a referee's diet, should not only take into account carbohydrates, proteins, and fats, which are energy-producing substances, but also minerals, vitamins, and water. All in all, the diet should be very rich and nutritionally balanced.
Of course, when it comes to these aspects, I'd better return the ball to a professional nutritionist.
Some of the subjective details that I can add are some personal habits and experiences. There were some referees who almost became hunger strikers on Sundays, and I was the opposite of them: if I didn't eat before the game, then I would feel very uncomfortable. Of course, I have a "reasonable" meal schedule: if the game is at 3 o'clock in the afternoon, then I will have lunch around 11:15. My lunch usually consists of a plate of tomato sauce or olive oil pasta, followed by a jam tart. The hotel I stayed at before the race was also very important to me, and I would choose the hotel according to the time of lunch. The main thing is to see which hotel has an early lunch time, because then I can have lunch like other guests; Or if the breakfast time in some hotels is very late, then I can also eat.
If the game was held at 20:30, then I would have lunch around 12:30 to 12:45. The meal has to be a little more hearty, and in addition to the noodles, I add a plate of fish or a plate of ham, and sometimes around 5 pm to 5:30 pm, I will have a little snack.
At the same time, it is very important to have something to eat after the game. This is because a 90-minute game is a great physical exertion, and in order to recover your body, you have to eat something, but don't eat yourself too fat. Fruits are my go-to because they quench my thirst while also avoiding the nasty "blistering" reaction in my stomach. So at the post-race dinner, I would have a little bit of fruit before the noodles that I had to eat at every meal.
At certain times of the year, for example, during the alternation of the old and new seasons, in special climatic conditions (such as when temperatures and humidity are high), or during certain periods of preparation, it is also beneficial to supplement yourself with some vitamins or some special medicines, which can help the body organs recover better. But I will pay great attention to the instructions for the use of the drug so that it does not become dangerous. Either way, my advice is to always obey the advice of the sports doctor.
The noodles I like to eat are the kind of pasta that are very delicious, and I think everyone will understand that. For me, it's very difficult to have a plate of macaroni or noodles and not eat it. So when I'm going around the world, even if it's a plate of replica spaghetti, I'm greeted with a smile.
Before the World Cup in Japan and South Korea, there is often a fear that although this time is wonderful, there is nothing to eat. Luckily, at the Kisarazu hotel we stayed in on the outskirts of Tokyo, the Japanese chef was really good at cooking. Now, on the day of the match, almost all European referees will be accustomed to serving a plate of pasta. Swedish, French, German and Spanish restaurant and waiters, as long as they recognize the four referees at the table as Europeans, then they will know in advance that they should have prepared tomato sauce noodles to eat.
The food I dread the most was chicken and all kinds of poultry meat. Doesn't it say that the referees are more or less crazy? Yes, now I confirm it. The mere thought of eating a hairy animal makes me feel unbearable. It's not because it tastes bad, it's not because I love animals, it's a simple psychological fear. If I didn't know where it came from, I might still be able to eat its meat.
It also shows that I am not a blessed person. I don't think eating should be a custom, and I hate being confined to a table for a long time. Therefore, I am more happy to eat at the buffet because it gives me the freedom to spend my time.
But sometimes, especially in the case of international competitions, my local escorts, in order to show their hospitality, arrange dinner in a restaurant and spend a very long time having a dinner, which is simply torture for me.
Therefore, my request is to stay at the table when necessary, and not for a minute.
In addition to eating, the important thing is the rulesIf it is important to know the rules, then it is even more important that there are various interpretations of the rules of the game.
Before important international tournaments, before the opening of the Italian football league, the referees are organized to participate in some discussions. One of the most frequently used words in these discussions was "consistency", that is, the need to maintain coherence. In the process of a referee's decision, his subjectivity can have a big impact on the outcome of the decision. When it comes to judging, we have to try to be consistent with ourselves and others, and that's the most basic concept for us. In order to be able to do that, we are very committed to the work so that we can make decisions that are consistent with ourselves and others in every game. Regardless of the game enforced, the same way should be used to explain and evaluate. This is not an easy goal to achieve. This is because the referee's judgment is very subjective and he is likely to make different decisions in similar situations. If the same referee makes different decisions for similar situations in the same match, then things can become very serious.
There is a football culture on the football field, and that is, everyone has their own thoughts. If the referee is from another country or another continent, if he has different experiences and different habits, then things will become difficult to control.
There are a few other sports that have very strict rules of competition. But football is different, and some of its rules leave a lot of room for the referee to interpret independently.
For example, Chapter 11 of the Rules, which deals with offside, objectively defines the position of a player's foul as being "closer to the opponent's goal line relative to the ball and the last second opposing player", at least "not in his own half", or "standing on the same horizontal line as the opponent's second-to-last player", or "being on the same horizontal line as the last two opposing players". Then there are some objective rules related to the specific situation, that is, "the person who passes the ball last or touches the ball last cannot be a member of his own team", "it does not come from a corner, a goal kick or a throw-in". At this point, every qiē has become simple.
Because of all of the above, another rule has been created, "Players must follow the referee's advice and actively participate in the game".
In this way, the referee's subjective judgment and interpretation will become very important. In some cases, the referee will also be led to make the opposite decision.
The phrase "listen to the referee" is also crucial in another important chapter, Chapter 12. Chapter 12 of the Rules is about fouls and misconduct, and when a player uses a clear foul to block an opposing player, the phrase "listen to the referee" becomes the most important phrase if he is to be sent off.
The goal of our work is to find a common standard and to arrive at an arbitration philosophy that is common to all referees, through guò information sheets, images, situation analysis and discussion. The conclusion is clear: there should be no English, Italian, Spanish or German methods of adjudication, but only a common method of adjudication. We regularly discuss these matters with referees from other countries and compare the various decisions. There is no doubt that this is a better method. This is also the case in Italy, and the training camp in Govergano will help us a lot. Although in the end a completely consistent result has not yet been reached.
In recent years, there has been a phenomenon of open borders in Europe. In this way, the athletes who play in the leagues of each country are likely to come from all over the world. As a result, the leagues of each country no longer have particularly distinct characteristics. For the player, when he goes to play in another country, it is also easier for him to adapt to the environment there.
Some people say that one of the most important qualities of a referee is to be able to adapt to the needs of the game. The meaning of this sentence is not only that the referee must understand the rules of the game, but also that the referee must master the scale.
Taking the initiative to do some preparation will give me a better understanding of the team's style of play. Watch a lot of games, whether it's you or someone else, and you can even ask for help from some experienced people, i.e. coaches. Therefore, the inclusion of football coaches in the training and preparation of referees in Italy is also a kind of support for us. This is a very important thing. In this way, the referee can be familiar with the process of tactics and understand the content of techniques and tactics. ”
