Eighteen layers of hell
The eighteen layers of hell mentioned in the "Eighteen Mud Plough Sutra" are arranged according to the length of time spent and the level of punishment.
Each layer of hell is twenty times more bitter and twice as long than the previous one. The eighteen layers of hell listed are all in Sanskrit, and if transliterated, they are: Guang Zhiju, Juxu Liu, Sangjudu, Lou, Fangshu, Caowu Beici, Du Lu Nandan, Bu Lu Banhu, Wu Jingdu, Ni Lu Du, Wu Luo, Wu Man, Wu Yi, Wu Hu, Su Jianju, Mo Du Gan Zhihu, Ou Tongtu, Chen Mo.
The word "layer" in the words "Eighteen Layers of Hell" does not refer to the upper and lower layers of space, but to the difference in time and criminal law, especially the meaning of the layering of time. For example, if the sentence of the first hell is measured in human time, it is 3,750 years as one day, 30 days as one month, and December as one year, and the sinner will be sentenced to this prison for 10,000 years (i.e., 13.5 billion years on earth). The sentence of the second hell is 7,500 years on earth, and the sinner must serve 20,000 years (54 billion years on earth) in this prison.
Subsequently, the sentences of the third to the eighteenth hells were increased by two times compared with the sentences of the previous hells.
