Yuan Lifan told the old man why his mother told him to give up studying to study medicine. and asked the old man's name, where he was from, and where he lived; The old man replied to Yuan Lifan and said, "My surname is Kong, I am a YN person, and Mr. Shao Kangjie of the Song Dynasty is proficient in the number of emperors, and I have obtained his true biography." According to the predestined number, I should pass on this imperial number to you. ”

After that, Yuan Lifan led the old man surnamed Kong to his house and told his mother about the situation. Yuan Lifan's mother asked him to treat the old Mr. Kong well. "So, Yin Qiuming instructed the county official to report to him on behalf of Yuan Lifan, and after receiving the official report, Yin Qiuming approved Yuan Lifan to make up for the tribute, after this twist and turn, Yuan Lifan ate more rice for a period of time, counting even the seventy-one stones he ate before, just to make up, a total of ninety-one stones and five buckets."

Zen Master Yungu asked Yuan Lifan and said, "The reason why a person cannot become a saint is because there are many delusions, which are constantly entangled in his heart; And you sat quietly for three days, and I didn't see you have a delusion, what is the reason for this? ”

Yuan Lifan replied: "My life has been calculated by Mr. Kong, when to live, when to die, when to be proud, when to be disappointed, there is a fixed number, there is no way to change it." It is also in vain to think about what benefits to get; So I honestly didn't want to, and I didn't have any delusions in my heart. ”

The Yungu Zen Master smiled: "I originally thought you were an amazing hero, but I know that you were also a mediocre ordinary man. ”

After listening to the words of Zen Master Yungu, Yuan Lifan didn't understand very much, so he asked Zen Master Yungu, how do you say this? Yungu Zen Master said: "An ordinary person cannot be said to have a conscious heart without cranky thoughts; Since there is this non-stop delusional heart, it will be bound by the number of yin and yang qi; Since he is bound by the number of yin and yang qi, how can he say that he has not counted? Although there must be a number of yin and yang qi, only ordinary people will be bound by the number of yin and yang qi. If he is an extremely good person, the number of yin and yang qi will not be able to restrain him. "Yungu Zen Master's words made Yuan Lifan at a loss."

Deng Xuanchang said this, paused, picked up the teacup on the coffee table, and drank a few sips of tea in a row; Yue Haohan hurriedly got up, filled the water in the teacups of the two of them, and then sat down again.

Deng Xuanchang finished drinking tea, wiped his mouth with his hand, and said: "Vastness, a person's fate and the feng shui of the place of residence are originally determined from the qi of yin and yang. ”

Yuan Lifan heard Yungu Zen Master say that a very good person, the number of yin and yang qi could not hold him back, so he asked, "Why?" So what about the extremely evil person, can the number of yin and yang qi restrain him? ”

The Yungu Zen Master replied, "Because a very good person, even though he is destined to suffer in the first few days; But he did great good deeds, and the power of this great good deeds can turn his suffering into happiness, and his poverty and his life will be short, and he will become rich and long-lived. And the extremely evil person, the number of yin and yang qi can't restrain him. For a very wicked person, although he is destined to be blessed, if he does a great evil, the power of this great evil is enough to turn a blessing into a curse, and a long and prosperous life into a poor and a short life. ”

After answering Yuan Lifan's question, the Yungu Zen Master said to Yuan Lifan: "Your life has been calculated by Mr. Kong for the past 20 years, and you have not counted the yin and yang qi and turned it by a single cent, but you have been detained by the yin and yang qi number. A person will be bound by the number of yin and yang qi, he is an ordinary man, so it seems that you are not an ordinary man, what is it? ”

Yuan Lifan asked Zen Master Yungu again: "According to what Zen Master said, can this Yin and Yang Qi number escape?" ”

The Yungu Zen Master said: "My life is made by myself, and the blessings are sought by myself; If I do evil, I will naturally be blessed; If I cultivate goodness, I will naturally be blessed. What was said in various poetry books in the past is really true, clear and good lessons. Our Buddhist scriptures say; If a person asks for wealth, he will be rich, if he asks for children, he will have children, and if he asks for longevity, he will live long. As long as he does good deeds, his life will not be restrained. Because lying is the great precept of Buddhism, what about Buddhas and Bodhisattvas who still tell lies and deceive people? ”

After listening to the words of Zen Master Yungu, Yuan Lifan still didn't understand in his heart, so he asked further: "Zen Master, Mencius once said: Whatever you ask for, you can get, this is something that can be done in my heart. If it is not in my heart, then how can I be sure that I can ask for it? For example, moral benevolence, it is all in my heart, I am determined to be a moral and righteous person, and naturally I will become a moral and righteous person, which is what I can try my best to ask for. If it is fame and wealth, it is not in my heart, it is outside of me, and I can only get it if others are willing to give it to me. If they don't give it to me, I can't get it, so how can I ask for it? ”

The Yungu Zen Master said, "Mencius's words are not bad at all, but you are wrong. Didn't you see the Sixth Ancestor Master Huineng say: All the blessings are decided in everyone's heart. Blessing is inseparable from the heart, and there is no blessing outside the heart, so the blessings and disasters are all in your heart. As long as you ask for blessing from your heart, there is nothing you can't feel!

If you can ask for it in your heart, it is not only the morality and righteousness in your heart, but also the fame and wealth outside the body, and you can also ask for it, so it is called both internal and external. In other words, in order to cultivate a blessed field, you will be rewarded by seeking benevolence, righteousness, blessing, and luck.

If a person has fame and wealth in his life, even if he does not ask for it, he will get it; If there is no fame and wealth in your life, even if you exhaust the methods, you will not be able to ask for it.

Therefore, if a person cannot examine and reflect on himself, but only blindly pursues fame, fortune and longevity from the outside; But if you can't get it, you still resign yourself to fate, and you are not sure. This is in line with what Mencius said, there is a way to ask for it, and there is a life to get it. You must know that even if you get it, it is still inherent in life, and it is not the effect of asking for it, so you can ask for what you can get, and you don't have to ask for what you can't ask for.

If you must ask for it, not only will you not be able to seek fame and wealth outside your body, but you will do whatever it takes to seek because of excessive wanton demand, excessive greed, then you will lose all the benevolence, righteousness and morality that you originally have in your heart, wouldn't that be a loss both inside and outside? Therefore it is useless to ask indiscriminately. "After this explanation by Zen Master Yungu, Yuan Lifan felt that he suddenly had an epiphany."

Deng Xuanchang said this, got up and went to the bathroom, sat down after returning, and continued to preach: "That Yuan Lifan has been enlightened by Yungu Zen Master, and since then, he has been dedicated to goodness; And wrote his own experience and perception into the "Four Disciplines of Liaofan" to warn future generations, at the same time, he eventually had a son, and he lived to be seventy-four years old and died without illness. ”
