Chapter 187: Postscript: Focus on click-through rates
The book "Beauty is Afraid of Lovers" is considered to be finished at this point. Can you continue to write? Of course! It's just that no matter how long and good it is, if there is no click-through rate, it will be useless.
The life of online literature is the click-through rate, and with the click-through rate, everything is there. Without click-throughs, then everything is equal to zero. But what does it take to increase click-through rates?
This is a very important issue and a very real one.
Including this book, I have written a total of five books. Every book ends up having to be closed because it doesn't have clicks.
The first three books belong to children's literature. "The Divine Dog Bian Mu" has one million words, "I Don't Want to Go Wandering" has 500,000 words, and "The Story of the Lonely Island and the Demon" has 500,000 words. At first, I thought that there was no online market for children's literature, that is, there were very few children reading books online, so the click-through rate could not go up. So I temporarily stopped the creation of children's literature, and began to write "Beauty is Afraid of Lovers", which belongs to urban love and marriage, thinking that this is a book that young people love to read, and the click-through rate should be able to go up, but in the end, it is still the same, and the click-through rate is still very few.
While writing the fourth book, because of his participation in the "New Immortal Cup" essay competition, he wrote a 100,000-word novella "White-haired Fairy Gu". The book's hits have improved a bit, with more than 20 people clicking on it every day, but it's not as satisfying as it gets.
This question has always bothered me, so I started to find the cause.
I checked some popular novels with a high click-through rate, and found that these novels have nothing peculiar in terms of writing, content, plot arrangement, and even text, but why do they have such a high click-through rate?
Oh! I finally understood: they were all celebrities!
But the books they wrote before they became famous also had a high click-through rate! What's going on here? In other words, they are gradually famous because of the high click-through rate, not because they are celebrities that they have a high click-through rate.
At this time, the starting point recommended another book, and said that the hit rate of this book can reach tens of thousands of times a day, and it is the first time for a newcomer to write a book. I read the first few chapters of the book with curiosity to find out how the book could increase click-through rates.
The content of this book is a historical story that is made up and created, and to be honest, it is not badly written. However, each chapter is not more exciting, the storyline is also slowly unfolding step by step, and other aspects are the same as many novels, and there is nothing more prominent. It's such a book, but the hit-through rate has reached a new high, how can it win so many people to spend time reading?
I finally understood that the effective way to increase click-through rates is to mobilize the masses.
In the early days of the novel's publication, the author first had to mobilize the masses and find a few hundred people to click twice a day, so that the rate of clicks a day reached thousands of times. After a few days, some fans of the novel will follow suit, which will make the click-through rate go up again. A few days later, the editorial department found that the click-through rate of this novel had risen rapidly, so they began to use their own advantages to promote this novel and put it in the most conspicuous place. The result is clear, and the novel is known to more people, and they begin to chase and read, and the click-through rate has risen to a big level.
There is no need to worry about the rest of the matter, the author just needs to write in the long run. One million words, two million words, three million words?????? The longer it is written, the more clicks are accumulated, the longer the book will occupy the recommended position, the more people will read it, and the click-through rate will continue to rise. This is the reason why online novels are often millions of words.
However, is the quality of a novel with a high click-through rate necessarily good?
I don't dare to jump to conclusions about this matter, because I don't have time to finish reading any of the popular online novels, not because I don't want to read them, but because they are too long, I really don't have time to read them. So the person who clicks on the novel must follow it every day?
It's really not clear.
Today's society is fast-paced and impetuous, will there be so many people chasing and reading millions of words of novels every day?
I still don't know about that!
But there is one thing I know, the newsroom values the click-through rate! Without click-through rates, editors won't pay attention to you, let alone promote you. They recommend books that have click-through rates.
So what do we do? The best way is to spend your energy on increasing the click-through rate, and try every means to mobilize the masses to increase the click-through rate. But it's not clear whether that click-through rate is true or not, anyway, the click-through rate will go up after spending money.
If you don't think about how to increase click-through rates at first, your book won't want to go viral.
This is what I have learned the most after writing 2.5 million words on the Internet. I don't have a way to mobilize the masses, and I don't spend money on click-throughs. Therefore, no matter how many good books I write, I will not become popular.
Since no one reads a book written, and it is impossible to become popular on the Internet, and it is impossible to earn hard money, why write a book?
Because I firmly believe that online literature will not always focus only on click-through rates!
