15. Chapter XV
Chapter 15: Sunny and Rainy
"You were born to see and hear?" The man on the other side fell silent after asking, as if waiting for her answer, but he looked at her carefully with his eyes.
Through the dark tea sunglasses, his eyes were like a cold and sharp knife, with a sense of substantial cutting, frowning the arrogant eyes under his brows, looking at her coldly, but he was not focused, he seemed to be distracted.
She couldn't help but shrink, every cell in her body was frantically shouting to hide herself in a safe corner, but she didn't dare to move or ignore it, so she gritted her teeth and replied, "Yes, sir." β
Hearing her answer, the man regained his focus, his cold expression softened a little, and his dark and deep voice sounded again, "Yay~ Actually, you don't have to be so solemn. β
"I'm sorry, sir." She carefully breathed a sigh of relief, trying to stay calm, and trying not to distract the man in front of her, "It is the system that must maintain the highest respect for the chief. β
After a short silence, the man leaned over slightly, "yes~ A good boy finally appeared under my command~" When he spoke, his lips slightly provoked an arc close to a smile, "Do I look terrible?" Why are you scared? β
"I'm sorry, sir." She raised her face hesitantly, and shuddered when her gaze met the Admiral's eyes, which were a pair of cold pupils that had no warmth, the opposite of the ease on the surface.
Her teeth chattered, and she replied in a small voice, "Because you are terrible, Mr. Yellow Ape." β
It was a very rude remark, she thought, but... After a few seconds, she got the envisioned answer:
The man slowly straightened up, looked away after a moment, and said in a manly voice, "Yay~ an honest child, I don't hate young people like you." β
β¦β¦β¦β¦
When the man turned his attention, she relaxed her tense muscles a little bit, and the fatal chill caused by the feeling of oppression gradually turned into thin sweat and a trace of pore dripping out of her pores, which was frightened and relieved at the same time.
In fact, I was very afraid of this man, her highest commander, the Admiral Yellow Ape, who commanded the Ministry of Naval Science.
After entering the Ministry of Science, she would occasionally run into them from a distance, and she would deliberately avoid them, because she knew that the people she could not [hear] at all must be immeasurably powerful, at least at her current level, and the two were like towering mountains and inconspicuous stones.
This island, the whole island of Marlingford, with the troops that sailed in turn, totaled more than 100,000 troops, and the people she had met over the years, even the generals who had been famous for a long time, could inadvertently make her [hear] the slightest clue.
There is no strong man in the slightest, and the number does not exceed twenty.
So, she can't lie to the person in front of her.
Carefully raised her eyes to look at the man, she looked away slightly, her gaze crossed the man's tall and thin figure, and fell softly on the bed in the ward, flattened her mouth, and her eyes moistened all of a sudden.
Mom... She shouted aggrievedly in her heart, and she only felt that she wanted to cry.
Mom once told her not to lie to the people who couldn't [hear] until she had to, she could be honest and didn't know how to answer, and she could choose to tell part of the truth, but she could never tell a complete lie.
My mother used the lies she told at that time to teach her to understand that "one lie" needs countless lies to construct false facts, and the negligence in filling in the process of exposure/exposure will bring about a crisis.
Admiral Yellow Ape was the best of the small group she couldn't hear, so she told part of the truth, and got the expected reaction, and the Supreme Commander of the Navy Science Department restrained the momentum he deliberately released, apparently satisfied with her confession.
She can't [hear], but she can draw on experience to make judgments and think through guΓ².
She's great, isn't she?
So... Is it okay to wake up? Mom.
β¦β¦β¦β¦
Blinking, she tried to blink off the fog that blinded her vision, but it didn't work very well, and the fog somehow condensed, and the warm water stains quickly slipped out of her eyes.
She couldn't help but take a step, eagerly approaching, wanting to rush into the safe and warm embrace for solace as before.
The man stopped her again, "Yay~ You'd better not go over now." β
"Why?" She was finally angry, and the worries and hesitations that had been lingering in her heart for a long time all turned into anxiety, "She's my mother!" What did you do to my mom?! β
"Yay~ The rhetoric of the questioning is exactly the same~" The man chuckled in a low voice, somehow it seemed a little strange, and after a moment, he stopped laughing before continuing, "Because you have uncertain risk factors in you." β
The light in the room was soft but dim, the man turned his face, looked at her mother, and looked away in an instant, a line of indescribable looks leaked behind his dark tea sunglasses, "Those attackers tonight are the fleet garrison of Seshehr's sailing mission, there is an unknown foreign object on that island, and all the people who landed on the island at that time..."
General Yellow Ape paused at this point, her eyes widened, and she heard him say in astonishment, "Born to see and hear, if the immune condition is domineering, you should be fine, but you can't be sure yet." β
"Speaking of which, your mother can't leave the Navy Headquarters for a while."
She only felt a buzz in her head, and the man in front of her continued to speak slowly, his voice somehow becoming farther and closer, revealing terrible content... Burst out in consciousness:
Last quarter, she went on a voyage with a research ship, and all the people who returned to Marlingford may have carried some kind of pathological factor, the danger course is unknown, and the infection method is unknown, so that all the people who have been in contact with the voyage in the near future are... A detailed examination is required.
Mom... Her mom... She's bringing danger to her mother, and that's what the Yellow Ape General said... The result?
β¦β¦β¦β¦
"Please don't be alarmist and intimidate my child, is that okay?"
With a low volume and a soft tone, she was the patron saint who slept peacefully every late night when she was a child.
Hearing the voice, all her restlessness was instantly soothed, "Mom~"
"Yay~ Lady Anna is awake?" Her supreme commander tilted his head to look in the same direction as her, a little surprised, "When?" β
"My child is crying." The figure she was staring at was half-seated on the bed, her breath was weak, a soft smile was on the corner of her mouth, and her outstretched arm was outstretched, "Nana, come to me." β
Gazing at her with eyes as tolerant as the sea, she couldn't bear it any longer, choked up, stumbled into that embrace, buried her face in it, and cried out in pain.
The warm hand gently patted her back, and she heard her mother's reproach, "Are you right to bully my child?" Mr. General Yellow Ape. β
"Yay~" The man let out a single tone with a smile, and then asked, "When did you wake up?" β
"When you said I might have contracted the virus, my child was terrified, Admiral Yellow Ape." Mom was as courteous as anyone else, "We will obey the arrangement and ββββ"
The hand that patted her back paused slightly, and she noticed that her mother seemed to sigh, "Thank you for telling me." β
"Mom!" She looked up eagerly, all the words she had to say froze as her eyes slid over the skin in the distance... Mom changed her clothes, the neckline was loosely buttoned, and her pupils subconsciously contracted by the faint vicious marks on her white greasy skin.
"Nana?" Noticing her stiffness, her mother patted her on the back, "Nana, what's wrong with you?" β
She slowly, slowly raised her face, struggling to squeeze out an expression that was not flawless, "Mom..." β
"It depends on the arrangement," Mom looked away from her soft gaze and raised her gaze, "Is that okay?" β
"Of course." The man replied with a chuckle, "My little subordinate is very worried, how about Lady Anna stay with her in the science department for a while until the end of the day?" β
"Then I'm sorry for the trouble."
She followed her mother's patter to get up, and then reached out to help, and before her mother lifted the quilt and landed on the ground, the general yellow ape appeared without warning, and preemptively completed her intention.
The nasty man put his hand on his mother's waist.
She gritted her teeth and lowered her eyelashes, perfectly hiding the idea of cutting off that hand for a moment, but her eyes slid over the hateful hand again only to find that the man's hand moved a few points higher after holding her mother steady, and quickly buckled her mother's button.
Mother's placket obscures the delicate and fragrant porcelain white skin like gardenia petals, and... The hideous traces she had seen a few seconds ago were gone, like hallucinations.
β¦β¦β¦β¦
Snorting, she stepped forward to squeeze the man's hand, deliberately sobbed quietly, and when her mother hugged her worriedly, she buried her head in her mother's neck socket and closed her eyes.
Mom said that no matter what happens, first solve the one that is related to safety, and then calmly consider other things.
Nana is an obedient child, so the top priority now is what General Yellow Ape said, which makes her tremble because it threatens her mother's safety.
Only by solving it can she have the mind to think about other problems.
Those marks on Mom's body...
She won't let go of the person who hurt her mother! Whoever it is!
β¦β¦β¦β¦ Dividing line ............
Department of Naval Sciences.
Nana stood by the window, her hand brushing away the wind-blown hair from her cheeks, and the room behind her floated with silent grumbling and panic, a few fellow researchers waiting for the results with her.
During the darkest hours before dawn, Nana returned to the Ministry of Science to take blood samples for testing with other colleagues, while her top commander informed her that her mother had been assigned to the medical corps and would be staying there as a secondee.
Nana had no objection to this, because she knew that she would not be allowed to have an opinion.
It's a place where individualism doesn't allow too much to flourish in the Navy Headquarters, unless she's strong enough to defy a stereotype, like the few at the top of the Navy Headquarters, Nana is well aware of her insignificance at this stage, but she's still young...
As my mother said, she is still young, and she has countless possible futures.
Someday...
Small, small complaints accidentally rubbed into her receiving range, like a shower breaking the surface of a lake, Nana gathered her thoughts and pursed the corners of her lips.
After a few hours of sitting and apprehension, the bad feelings have accumulated to a certain extent, making the usually proud and calm elites gradually anxious, and no one dares to confide in them clearly, but the voices coming from them are so chaotic...
Squinting her eyes, Nana was once again engrossed in looking out the window.
Marinford is waking up.
Nana's room was a little far from the coast, and outside the window was a complex of tall and low buildings, belonging to the Ministry of Naval Science, and her view was obscured by the buildings, but these tall buildings could not stop her from [hearing].
The moment the sun jumps out of the sea level, it is the most beautiful time of the sea, the quiet blue is boundless, and the golden red sunlight splashes out at the distant sea and sky, soft and transparent, as if it wants to spread to people's hearts.
A frenzy was surging between the sky and the sea, the military boots of the soldiers who got up early for morning training stepped neatly across the ground, the heavy artillery at the front of the position made a soft sound, and the pages of the dossier squirmed when they were turned.
The hustle and bustle of the town, the calmness of the barracks, and the pulse of the distant earth finally converge into a tumbling song of life.
She listened intently to the long, warm breath of the breeze, and when the first rays of sunlight pierced through the obstacles, Nana saw herself reflected in the glass, and the corners of her mouth unconsciously overflowed with a smile, and her heart, which could not be settled, finally returned to its original place.
β¦β¦β¦β¦
Breaking the peace and tranquility was the sense of existence from far and near, Nana kept her face facing the window, frowning carefully.
The boots slammed lightly against the floor, and after a while, the door opened and the room fell silent, and the people in the same room waited cautiously, as tight as a walking tightrope.
No one made a sound, not only the thin sheets of paper that were handed out to everyone, and... The ecstasy that diffused a moment later.
It is extremely happy, the joy of the rest of my life.
Nana subconsciously let go of her tense shoulders, flattened her mouth, slowly turned her face sideways, and greeted the person who walked to her in a dumb voice, "Captain Sentomaru." β
"Nana." The young boy gently handed over the page in his hand, his expression was still the same as usual, but there was obvious joy in his eyes, "Auntie is fine, it's really good." β
"Hmm~ Thank you, Captain Sentomaru." Nana took the report that the boy brought herself, smiled and put it away, then raised her eyes and asked, "Is it right to ask me for something?" β
Hearing this, the boy who was obviously older than her blushed strangely, looked left and right for a long time, and finally whispered, "The old man wants to see you." β
"Mr. Yellow Ape General?" After thinking about it, she lowered her head and straightened the corners of her clothes, and replied in a deep voice, "Please lead the way." β
Asking Captain Sentomaru to take a step forward and follow behind the combat captain of the Mobile Department of Science, Nana caught a glimpse of the strange attention of several other colleagues in the room, and her gaze swept over, and she immediately lowered her eyelashes and walked forward quietly.
Even without [listening], Nana knew the meaning in those eyes, and had learned to turn a blind eye.
Such encounters are accustomed to entering military schools, and even earlier.
Those thoughtful scrutinies, hidden muddy thoughts, and seemingly unobtrusive sarcasm were like spider silk to Nana, who could see them, invisible but hated them, but now she knew how to hide her true thoughts under the surface, and at least she could pretend to be unaware.
β¦β¦β¦β¦
Leave the room where you have been waiting for hours, and follow Captain Sentomaru to your destination.
Out of the building, the group walked in the heart of the leading to the Ministry of Science, the office of the Supreme Commander General Yellow Ape, and bumped into many people along the way, passing by, Nana felt that the usually hurried and active Ministry of Science was shrouded in an invisible float.
Like the ocean at high tide, it is turbulent.
Captain Sentomaru's pace slowed down a little bit, and gradually changed from being one step ahead to two walking side by side.
"Don't worry about anything, Nana." He whispered, "Don't be nervous. β
Nana raised her eyes and met the boy's gaze, and then saw his eyes light up, "Nana, the old man is actually very gentle, don't be nervous." As if he had no place to put his hands as he spoke, his tone stumbled, "I... I'm actually..."
"Captain Sentomaru." Softly stopping his unfinished words, she glanced around from the corner of her eye, and when she received her silent signal, his face turned a little redder, and he did not continue.
She knew that Captain Sentomaru had misunderstood the purpose of General Yellow Ape's summoning her, but forget it, she didn't want to say anything more, at least... Now you don't have to disappoint the person next to you.
She knew how to distinguish between kindness and malice at a very young age, and she was cunning to avoid evil, and the boy next to her, she [listened] very clearly, from the contempt of the first meeting, until the slow change...
There is a difference between everyone's appearance and reality, and for Nana, except for a small number of strong people who can't be seen, few people can deceive her... Captain Sentomaru's thoughts, at least for now, are pure.
Nana glanced at the boy who was older than her on the shoulder, the bangs on his forehead fluttered slightly in the wind, and her breath became pleasant, she closed her gaze, lowered her eyelashes to cover the waves floating under her eyes.
β¦β¦β¦β¦
Let's find a way to distance ourselves after some time... Nana decided.
Captain Sentomaru is very happy, on his occasions, she can often [hear] the envy and disapproval hidden behind the kindness, humans are strange and changeable creatures, always paying attention to what others have and ignoring what they hold in their hands.
Background, family background, qualifications, talent, no matter which one will be irrelevant people's eyes, Captain Sentomaru's family background is destined to be higher than others, and maybe his growth will be smoother than others, so many people forget his own efforts, no matter what he gets, the whispering behind him has never stopped.
She knew, and she knew that boys older than her were too well protected, but... That wasn't an excuse for her to hurt him.
She wouldn't do that because she was better protected, and for as long as she could remember, her mom had always protected her, holding her soft smile, doing anything.
If it weren't for last night's glimpse, Nana probably never thought about it, or maybe her mother was hurt sometimes.
Seeing the dense and terrible scars, Nana couldn't help but be scared and couldn't help but blame herself, is it that her mother has been injured many times over the years but pretended to be nothing?
If she's stronger... If she had woken up sooner...
Now that she's older, it's her turn to protect her mother.
Before yesterday, she was a naΓ―ve fool, and now she was awakened by reality, and now she wants to become stronger, like the characters in those stories that her mother said, so powerful that she defies the law.
Strong enough to protect anything she wants to protect.
She can be like the nine-tailed pillar force of 'crying enough to not cry', and do her best to move towards the goal of becoming stronger.
She can be like a careerist who 'no one stands in heaven from the beginning', slowly accumulating strength, and finally standing at the top.
She's still in time, she's only sixteen years old, and she has what her mother says is an unpredictable future.
Someday...
