After that, he read Zhu Xi's works all over and pondered Song Confucianism's so-called doctrine that "everything has a fine surface and a coarse inside, and every grass and tree has a reason". In order to practice Zhu Xi's "knowledge of things", once he made up his mind to be poor in bamboo, and "checked" bamboo for three days and three nights, but found nothing, but people fell ill because of it. Since then, Wang Shouren has great doubts about the theory of "Gewu", which is the famous "Shouren Gezhu" in the history of Chinese philosophy.

In the winter of the first year of Zhengde (1506) of Emperor Wuzong of the Ming Dynasty, the eunuch Liu Jin was in charge of government and arrested more than 20 people including Dai Miao, the imperial historian of Nanjing. Wang Shouren went to the rescue, and angered Liu Jin, was forty rods, and was demoted to Guizhou Longchang (seventy miles northwest of Guiyang, Xiuwen County) as a Longchang inn. At the same time, his father, Wang Hua, was also driven out of Beijing and transferred to Nanjing as the secretary of the ministry.

On the way, Wang Shouren was chased and killed by Liu Jin, and faked diving to escape by committing suicide. Wang Shouren, who escaped the pursuit, secretly went to Nanjing to meet his father Wang Hua, and Wang Hua said to him: "Since the imperial court has entrusted you with the responsibility, you should take office." Then he embarked on the road and came to Longchang, Guizhou, "the mountains are thin, and the seedlings and bureaucrats live together", and the Longchang was still an uncivilized area at that time. Wang Shouren was not discouraged, and taught the locals according to customs, and was loved by the people. During this period, he gained a new understanding of the central idea of the University. Wang Shouren realized that "the way of the sage is self-sufficient, and those who seek reason from it are also wrong." During this period, he wrote the "Dogma of the Dragon's Field Beings", which is known as the Dragon's Field Enlightenment.

At that time, Wang Shouren was preparing to travel to Fujian to quell the rebellion there. Traveling to Fengcheng between Ji'an and Nanchang in Jiangxi, Wang Shouren received the news of Zhu Chenhao's rebellion and immediately rushed to Ji'an to recruit volunteers, issue a message, and send troops to conscript. At the beginning, Wang Shouren came up with a suspicious plan. He knew very well that if King Ning went east along the Yangtze River, then Nanjing would definitely not be able to be saved.
