14. Chapter 14 - Substitution

Octopus salamander and Ben.

They appeared quite suddenly and quickly, and I didn't feel it at all.

Ben got off the eight-clawed salamander, took out a cigarette leisurely, lit it on the lighter, and waited for the cigarette to burn for a short time before dusting off the ashes and smoking comfortably. His state of mind contrasts sharply with the weariness of the staff: "You guys look tired."

"Oh, Mr. Ben, there were a lot of red-scaled merfolk the night before, and for the sake of the organization's research, we caught a few without alerting the mermaid lord, but you know that their attack is quite strong, and we were all injured, but the people of the organization were ......" The chubby staff was about to complain, but his words were interrupted by the tall staff.

"Please forgive his impatience, Mr. Ben," the tall man saluted Ben, his tone full of humility, "what he means is that we spend a lot of time taming in order to get those stubborn merfolk to obey the Order, which makes us quite tired. ”

"You guys did a good job, I remember your name was Jeff? Jeff, I'll report to Chelson and ask them to give you plenty of time to recuperate. Ben patted the eight-clawed salamander beside him to their cheers, "Now, please help me turn on the grid, it's time for Hetty's play." ”

"Mr. Ben, I beg your pardon, just now the headquarters gave an order that the power grid cannot be turned on until the generators are repaired. You know, this is to avoid an enemy invasion. ”

Ben patted Jeff on the shoulder, "I know you have an emergency activation device implanted in your skin that can turn on the power grid at any time. You know Hetty's habit of going out to sea at eight o'clock every night, and I hope you don't disturb his interest. ”

"Mr. Ben, this is an order from the headquarters, please don't embarrass us."

Ben pushed his glasses and said meaningfully, "I think you should know who I am."

Jeff replied honestly: "Of course, you are Colonel Chelson's right-hand man, Ben Letz's chief technical researcher, and your order is equal to Colonel Chelson's." However, I beg your pardon, we cannot disobey the order of the headquarters. ”

Ben had a standoff with them for a few minutes, but it didn't seem to work.

Finally, Ben patted Jeff on the shoulder, smiled and said, "It's good that you guys can stick to guarding here, I'm sorry, I'm sorry I broke the rules." I'll report back to Chelson when I get back to get you a little rest, and I'll bring you some healing tomorrow. ”

"Thank you, Mr. Ben, please go slowly."

Ben left with the eight-clawed salamander named Hetty, I frowned, I got a lot of information from Ben's conversation with them, such as the organization caught a lot of red-scaled mermaids the other day, Ben's identity, the staff was able to activate the power grid urgently, and Hetty would show up at eight o'clock in the evening...... This helped me a lot to understand "LS" and get out of here in the future.

I left the reef and, following the direction I had come, found a hidden hole and slipped into it. No one will find out here, I'm fairly safe.

For the next two days, I traveled back and forth between the hideout and the reef, observing the situation at the small base to make plans for the next steps.

I had to find a way to get into the headquarters and rescue March, and the staff at this small base was a good way to break through.

I found that they work in three shifts, 6 o'clock, 14 o'clock, and 22 o'clock every day, which is their shift time, and at this point in time, their attention will be diverted for a short time, but this short time is obviously not enough for me.

Thankfully, after careful observation, the tall man named Jeff was very similar to my face and body, and he had a habit of going to the beach to catch fish for lunch the next day before going to bed, so I could knock him out and disguise him as him to infiltrate the organization.

On the night of the third day, I returned to the reef next to the small base. The grid generator had been repaired that evening, but Hetty was still not allowed to go to sea for the sake of stability, but Ben would still bring Hetty to blow the sea breeze at this point every day.

Ben arrived at about half past seven, and today he looked quite cheerful, and his tone was full of lightness, and as he had done for the past few days, he gave the staff two bottles of medicine that promotes wound healing: "This is today's medicine." Congratulations guys, I've asked Chelson that tomorrow morning after the six o'clock shift you will be back at headquarters for a week of recuperation. ”

Jeff and his companions cheered happily, but I was thinking about something else. Tomorrow they'll be back at headquarters, and tonight I'll have to act.

At twenty-two o'clock in the evening, Hetty and Ben had already gone back, and the two shifts of staff were handed over.

I followed Jeff with my eyes fixed, and the guy walked out with a bucket as usual after taking a shower.

In fact, it is not a wonderful thing to follow and observe a big man every day, and I even felt sick to vomit several times because of his rude foot picking movements, but fortunately, with patience, I mastered his habits and behavior.

After he went to sea, I swam to his back and stunned him, and then changed into his clothes.

After taking him away from the small base, I let him go in the direction of the river and let him drift with the sea. The fog was quite heavy today, and the wind was blowing in the opposite direction of the small base, and I swore that he would drift far away without anyone noticing, and I was confident that I would not wake up in a day, and perhaps by then, he would be dead.

After doing this, I swam back to the small base, took a deep breath, and walked into the base with my head down. The gate closed with the sound of metal rubbing, and at this point in time there was basically no one there, and the whole base was as quiet as a tomb. Under the incandescent light, the Tao glowed with a cold and deep sheen, like the road to hell, eerie and terrifying.

My heart was clenched by a pair of invisible hands, and I knew that I would face a great challenge: to disguise myself as a stranger in a completely unfamiliar environment, to calmly accept his identity, and to continue to accomplish what he had to do. If I fail, I'll be found out and face the tragic consequences of disguise.

I started to look a little nervous, and my breathing unconsciously rapided, but as I continued deeper into the base, my body slowly adjusted to the tension, and I adjusted my breath to find Jeff's room.

Jeff lived in the same room as his chubby companion, and I heard Jeff's grumbling voice, and his companion would fall asleep as soon as he finished the shower, oh yes, he slept so badly that Jeff hated his thunderous snoring.

I knew it was ridiculous, but listening to the snoring, I found Jeff's room by accident. The room was pretty bad, the air was full of sour smell, it smelled like a combination of smelly socks and sweat, I had to hold my breath, thankfully the room was not messy and allowed me to find what I needed quickly.

Flashlights, daggers, hand ...... Oh, and two more needles.

My hair, which had not been trimmed for a while, had grown to the shoulders, which made it easy for me to hide two needles in my hair and tie them tightly with the strands, while I hid other items in my clothes and military boots.

I pulled out Jeff's ID card, glanced at it, jotted down the information, and was about to leave to look for more information when a heavy voice rang out.

"Oh, Jeff, what are you doing behind my back?"

My body stiffened suddenly, and my fists clenched subconsciously.

Without a helmet to cover my face, the guy would definitely find out that I wasn't Jeff, which would cause a lot of trouble...... Oh, sorry man, I'm afraid I'll just knock you out.

However, just as I was turning around to make a move, I heard a murmur from behind me.

"You guy, huh...... Whew......"

Very clear snoring.

The breath that surged into my throat was relieved.

Sals, it's just a dream word, don't be too nervous, you're safe now.

I looked back and was sure that the guy really wasn't awake, so I picked up Jeff's clothes and helmet and put them on, and left the room for a nice trip somewhere else.

I grabbed a few interesting things and made a gesture with Jeff's ID card, and it wasn't until the wee hours of the morning that I was back in bed to enjoy a good night's sleep. When I opened my eyes, it was time to assemble.

I pulled down my helmet, hid my face as much as I could, and walked out of base with my chubby companion.

Thankfully, my companion was so excited about the upcoming vacation that the fat on his stomach trembled with laughter, and he didn't notice anything unusual about "Jeff", and when he got into the troop carrier, he even patted me on the back affectionately and laughed.

However, I was not in the mood to listen to him, and I was memorizing the route to headquarters.

The island was surprisingly large, and the terrain was not as flat as I expected, and there were even quite a few hills in the middle of the island.

After leaving the beach, the troop carrier drove towards the forest, where there were no signs at all, the road was muddy and bumpy, and the excellent sense of direction and memory would be of great use here. Wild beasts are always present in the forest, and when I looked up, I even saw a few bowl-thick pythons staring at us.

Out of the forest, the nausea of vomiting finally disappeared, and the troop carrier drove towards the artificially cultivated flat mountain road, and circled upward.

Every 100 meters on both sides of the mountain road, there is a light and a protective net, which does not look special, but when the sunlight is projected at a certain angle, I see a strange light flashing on the edge of the shield.
