Chapter 8: The Book of Jade

The intern in the library didn't have the key to the library yet, and Qin Qing waited until early the next morning to block the door before he saw the person who took the key. The man took the note before leading Qin Qing into the library, while explaining, "Your student registration materials and teachers' files are all here, you can't be careful." ”

Qin Qing said then I'll wait outside the station, and the man asked her what book she was looking for, Qin Qing didn't know, so she said in general terms that she was looking for folklore, and then reported Professor Shi's name, and the man took two or three copies, "This is edited by your Professor Shi, there are those edited by him, and there are those with his name, take them." ”

The three books are very thin, and one piece is not as thick as Qin Qing's textbook. The cover is also very "earthy", just a few geometric figures with words, no matter how you look at it, it looks like it is made in word.

But the book is very new, and it seems that no one has ever turned it over.

The man with the key seems to have been working here for many years, saying, "This book was compiled and printed by the school itself, and it has no book number, so it is used within the school." This one was added during this reprint. He clicked on the top one.

Qin Qing took the book back to the bedroom.

The first edition date is the furthest, January 1953, and the reprint is 1993. It is the oldest of the three. Qin Qing probably flipped through it and found that the information in this book was the most detailed, because its thin book was full of folk stories, with more than 1,300 articles, and these stories all had a recorder at the beginning, the narrator, the era, place, and the characters were all real names. The people who wrote this book must have done their best to restore these stories as they were.

And most of the editor-in-chief and chief writer of this book are the same person, his name is Dai Yushu. Only the reprint editor is Professor Shi Wuwei.

Qin Qing was most interested in this book, and he couldn't wait to open it after eating.

"In 1921, I came to Xujiatun, and the young shopkeeper of the oil mill saw that I was a piece of material, literate and arithmetic, and good at playing abacus, so he sent me to Xujiajia to study. I got up before dawn every day to help in the oil mill, and after breakfast with the shopkeeper's family, I went home with the shopkeeper's son and nephew. ”

"I am a long-term worker of the Xu family, but the shopkeeper didn't ask for my deed of sale. The days in Xujia Oil Mill were the happiest days I have lived since I was born. At that time, I really wanted to sell myself to the oil mill, but the shopkeeper smiled and said that I should not be in a hurry, and it would be too late to sell it when I stood taller than the oil drum. I know he coaxed me, and the oil drum was about a foot and a half high, a head taller than the tallest long-term worker in the oil mill. ”

"The young shopkeeper's family are all good people, and later they sent me to study in the county. When I went back after the founding of the People's Republic of China, the oil mill was gone, and the shopkeeper's family was scattered. I found a worker in the oil mill named Xu Si, his daughter-in-law Xu Si still remembered me and insisted on keeping me to eat, the white noodles were specially made for me by their family, and two drops of sesame oil were dropped. ”

"Xujiatun has a history of 400 years, the archway in the village was first established during the Hongwu period, when the village chief wants to announce something, he will call the old and young in the village to the archway to say. I want to study the history of Xujiatun so that future generations can also understand this small village with a history of 400 years. ”

Dai Yushu's preface tells the story, it turns out that he has such a deep affection for Xujiatun, so he went to study the folk customs of Xujiatun. Maybe when he chose this topic, the first thing he wanted to study was Xujiatun.

Judging from the preface, Dai Yushu studied Xujiatun for a total of eight years, and in these eight years, he personally visited every household in Xujiatun, and also devoted himself to studying the county chronicles of Xujiatun. This is a big project, because Xujiatun has been relocated four times in the past 400 years. One moment the county magistrates in the east ruled over them, the other they were in the west, and in a few decades, they were given to the counties in the south.

In addition to the county chronicles, there is also the genealogy of the Xu family. The first story of Dai Yushu is from the legend of the ancestors of the Xu family.

Qin Qing watched it with relish, and forgot to sleep and eat. When Professor Shi went to class again, she ran to occupy a place with her books and notes as soon as possible.

Professor Shi still remembered her, and after class, he saw her come over and beckoned to her with a smile: "Did you go to borrow a book?" What's the problem? ”

Qin Qing shook his head, "I'm reading this, I haven't gotten through it yet, I want to find a few more books to corroborate, and I don't have any questions to ask the teacher now." ”

Professor Shi let out a long sigh, as if with a little melancholy, "This ......book," he shook his head and said, "This book...... It is a lonely, the school did not study this, Xujiatun has long been gone, 74 years changed to the county, the villagers have long moved away, the archway is still left to engage in tourism. The research materials of that year have long been lost. Just take a look at this one. ”

Qin Qing was surprised, "But Professor, the author of this book writes very carefully, and he has found all the information!" "How is it possible to write this book after eight years of research? And obviously, the author of Dai Yushu wrote this book is just the beginning, and he will definitely have to conduct a lot of research and confirmation later, not to mention that it will develop into a school later, so it won't be this one.

Professor Shi shook his head and didn't say much, "You can look at the others, I can tell you about the others." After saying that, he waved his hand and left.

Qin Qing went back disappointed, Si Yuhan said: "Maybe the author has passed away a long time ago, if he is still alive, maybe there will be more information, as soon as he leaves, this will be left here." A lot of it is like this, no one takes over, and naturally it is gone. ”

That's right.

Qin Qing sighed, "I just think it's a bit of a pity, you didn't read that book." She took the book from the bedside, "Don't read the bookbook, there is really no nonsense, 1,357 articles, all of them were obtained by his own visits, eight years before and after." ”

"People who used to be scholars were serious." Si Yuhan took it, sighed at the cover that showed no sincerity at all, opened it, and saw that the first story read: "1936, pen." The narrator, Xu Ermao, and the male ......" turn backwards, all in this format. "At that time, there was no computer, and he only heard people write it down himself."

Si Yuhan was also fascinated by the story, and I have to say that Dai Yushu's writing is quite fascinating, but she didn't dare to read it anymore when she saw it after dark at night, "I can't see my hair!" ”

The first story is about what Xu Ermao's mother did after her death.

Xu Ermao's father has two wives, the eldest wife is Xu Ermao's mother-in-law, who was carried into the door by eight sedan chairs, and worshiped the ancestors of heaven and earth. The second wife, that is, the little mother, hanged Xu Ermao when she was a child. When Xu Ermao grew up, he guessed that his mother was deceived by his father.

Xu Ermao's father is a merchant who walks the streets and alleys, and often does not return home for several months. When my mother entered the door, I heard that it was not as tall as the cabinet. After Xu Ermao's mother found out, she chased his father until he reached the archway before being persuaded back by the old man. His mother said that his mother was in the opera troupe, and she loved to sing songs when she worked, and her voice was as good as a bird.

A year later, the mother found out that she had been deceived, because she asked all the people in the village to know that Xu Ermao's father was an ordinary merchant, and he had never walked twenty miles away from Xujiatun in his life, so it was impossible to take her home, and it was impossible to see her parents and her hometown. Then the little mother hanged herself.

After that, Xu Ermao's mother and father both dreamed of his mother, Xu Ermao himself didn't remember, but his mother said that Xu Ermao dreamed when he was a child that his mother stood on the edge of the well and beckoned Xu Ermao at the door, and then his father filled the well at home, and his mother also told him not to go out alone.

The Xu family invited the goddess, and the goddess said that this person was dead, and the soul was not gone, and I still remember that Xu Ermao's father said that he would take her home. Xu Ermao's father had to take the tablet to inquire around, and asked the people in the troupe to see if anyone remembered where the little mother's hometown was. In the end, Xu Ermao's father never came back, and Xu Ermao remembered that his mother said before she died that his father had let his mother take him away.

Qin Qing felt that there were some places in this story that were a bit similar to her, such as the Xu family's dream of her mother. But because there is no more information, only this one tells the story, she is like standing outside the treasure mountain but scratching her ears and cheeks and not being able to enter.

The author, Dai Yushu, also seems to want to avoid his ideas from giving readers a preconceived impression, so he abandons a subjective narrative in his account and tries to reduce it to the narrator's own perspective. He didn't make the slightest comment, and he didn't have any antecedents.

Looking at the story, Qin Qing couldn't help but think: What did Dai Yushu think when he wrote a story? What did he feel from the narrator, Xu Ermao? What did Xu Ermao's neighbor say? Where is Mommy's grave? Did Xu Ermao's father really disappear because of this incident? In all this, a serious person like Dai Yushu will definitely not leave after listening to just one story, he will definitely pursue the cause and effect of this story.

If, if this person is still alive, if he is a professor at school, if you can listen to his lectures, I don't know how good it would be to ask him questions in person!

Probably because of Qin Qing's thoughts, she had a dream that night.

In her dream, she was in class, which was Professor Shi's class. But the curtains were not drawn, and outside the window were the green maple leaves rustling in the breeze, and the early summer sun was shining down, and the maple leaves were green and transparent.

A professor with a shy stomach and wearing an old-fashioned suit and overalls stood in front of the balcony and talked eloquently, his very foreign thumb hooked the strap, and the sleeves of his white shirt were rolled up high, which made Qin Qing's first impression that he seemed to have stayed abroad.

"We in China have a very rich soil. Unlike the United States, which has no history for 200 years, our country has a long history, and maybe a small village outside is hundreds of years old. ”

The students below let out a gentle roar.

"Don't laugh, as far as I know about the Xujiatun, there is a Hongwu Nian archway in their village, you have counted it for hundreds of years? Maybe the water tank in our school cafeteria is seventy or eighty years old. ”

The students burst into laughter, and a boy stood up and shouted, "Professor Dai, how old is your fountain pen?" ”

The professor on the podium raised his eyebrows, took out a pen from his shirt pocket in a serious manner, and said seriously: "It is fifty years old, and it was a thrift I bought in a small shop when I was studying in England, and it only cost me a pound." He turned the pen in a circle, and "the first person to have it, engraved the date on it." He handed the pen to the students, "I guess it's an unwelcome birthday present." He said playfully.

The fountain pen also passed into Qin Qing's hand, which was really strange. Qin Qing saw that there was indeed an inscription on the barrel of the pen, which was a flower body.

k・j・lf・1910

When he woke up in the morning, Qin Qing recalled the scene in the dream, and then turned out the book next to the pillow and turned to the second preface, the second preface was written by Professor Shi, and he simply wrote the life and birth date of Dai Yushu. The years of birth and death of Dai Yushu are: 1910-1963.

Qin Qing guessed, she felt that the fountain pen should be a birthday gift that Dai Yushu bought for herself. It was originally a birthday gift, disliked by the first owner, and cherished by the second owner.
