Chapter 2: Beginning and End
On a sunny day, the toot perches on the branches of the giant fiery maple tree on Ava Island and listens to the waves crashing against the cliffs not far from the shore. The white clouds drifted shallowly, leaving behind a blue sky, like a wave gliding across the calm sea. The breeze blew through the brows of the green grass, mixed with the fragrance of the earth, and the brilliant sun scattered into countless charming rays of light in the air, watching the skylarks fly in front of you.
Ivas lay in a rocking chair at the front door of the hilltop cottage on Aiva Island, looking out at the endless fields of red hyacinths in front of him. The cobblestone paths are covered with weeds, and the tranquil inscriptions bear the words of thousands of years ago.
I don't know when it started, but Ivas started to feel tired. Ten years ago, or twenty years ago, the momentum of the boyhood of that was before is long gone. I still remember that unforgettable teenage time, when I had the opportunity to change the world.
If you were given another chance to choose, what would you choose?
To stay, or to leave?
Ivas smiled, the loose muscles of his face tugging and wrinkles covering his forehead. He didn't expect that it would be so difficult for him to even smile now, and he still remembered the old boyhood when he studied with Royce in Dumille City, although many years have passed, but it is still vivid. Sometimes when the cold wind hits, he even has to put on thick clothes, and the body of the once strong fisherman is now fragile.
In fact, he already had the answer in his heart.
No matter how many times time gives him the opportunity to choose, he will still choose to stay and wait here without hesitation.
Waiting for his mother.
Evas's old eyes stared blankly at the swing under the fire maple on the mountain, and tears unconsciously flowed from his eyes. It's like going back to the good old days more than 60 years ago. My sister sits on the swing, and my father pushes the swing to make it swing high. My mother was preparing dinner with her at home, and the smoke rose from the cooking, and the food on the table was golden, arousing the family's appetite. The once cheerful smile and warm time are the memories of 60 years with Evas.
Especially after the departure of Clad.
Her younger sister Clad died of illness very early, and her face was still the same innocent as before: a lovely smile, playful short hair, and a black plain clothes. Ivas remembers that when his sister left, she held her hand and kept saying her name in her mouth. That day, Ivas burst into tears, watching death take his sister's life while he could do nothing about it.
A few years after my sister's death, the War of the Century broke out.
After twenty years of bitter hatred, with the collapse of the Second Holy Alliance, the World Alliance was officially formed. Six seas, seven kingdoms and eleven demons unite to face a common enemy: evil spirits from ancient times. The million-strong coalition led by the last savior and the inheritor of the twelve artifacts finally wiped out the seven ancient evil spirits at the foot of the Heavenly Divine Mountain at a terrible price.
Evas receives a call from the Dragon Kingdom and joins the coalition. As a reservist, he did not participate in many brutal battles. When he returned triumphantly, he was nearly forty years old.
Awarded the Medal of Honor, he has not forgotten his promise.
He returned to Ava Island and continued to wait.
He was accompanied back to Awa by his wife, Havin Kain, whom they had met in the Coalition forces. The happy days on Ava Island lasted for more than ten years, and Ivas was very happy to watch his two children grow up day by day.
Later, his wife, Haewen Kain, became seriously ill and died soon after.
Since then, Ivas has been on his own. His two children were not without the idea of taking him to live in the big city, and almost every year they sincerely persuaded their father to live with them, but both were politely rejected by Ivas. The two children were very helpless, so they only came back for a month every year to accompany their elderly father a little bit, talk about their recent development, and talk about the confusion they encountered. Ivas was also very indifferent to this, sometimes commenting a few words, but most of the time he remained silent, calmly watching his children talk.
From this, Ivas still learned a lot of information from the outside world.
The disagreement over the destruction of the three million coalition forces in that battle hastened the deterioration of relations between the nations, and the political and military rivalry made the alliance appear strained. The kingdoms of heaven and sea, which are independent of the world, do not want to participate in disputes, and henceforth they are spectators from the wall. Wanhuachao and Zhuyin are far away on the other side of the ocean, and they have lived their own stable lives. Those disputes still take place in the Seven Kingdoms: the Dragon Kingdom, the Tree Kingdom, the Night Kingdom, the Snow Country, the Beast Kingdom, the Sand Kingdom, and the Ning Kingdom.
The Twelve Artifact Inheritors fell one after another in that epic battle. The strongest man in the world: the last savior also disappeared from view after that war. This era is an era without heroes.
Ivas only smiled when he heard the children talk about it, and he didn't like to care about these things, because people like him couldn't change anything. He didn't want to hear about the humiliation of the princess of the Dragon Kingdom after being captured in the war, and he didn't want to care about the fact that fighting and killing for a high and low army was no longer meaningful to him. A little more pure time and enjoying the peace of life is what people of Evas's age really want.
The children didn't care about their father's avoidance of these things, after all, they thought that the father was old. This era belongs to the era of young people. After a short conversation, the two children left Ava Island and went back to their lives, leaving their father with some pocket money and telling them to add more clothes in the future, which was the only thing they could do.
After the two children left, Evas was left alone again. The cottages of Ava Island have returned to their former tranquility.
At this time, he would go into the study and open the diary he had written fifty years ago.
Looking at the familiar notes, it was the handwriting of the once young self with a strong hand. The ink dried, the paper was yellowed, and a slight musty smell came to the nose, but there was a sense of precipitation of time. Ivas smiled kindly, opened his journal, and said to himself, "If only Cladder were still here, I would be able to tell her these legendary stories, and I'm sure she would be interested." "It's a pity that the lively, naughty, cheerful girl has long since passed away. The breeze blew through the fire, the swing swayed slightly, and Evas wanted to see her again. But it was just a dream.
Ivas drooped his eyelids, panting, and looking very tired. But the moment I opened the diary, I seemed to have found a feeling of youth again.
I still remember that day, the first day he went to sea, the day he met her.
On that day, the wind howled, the waves churned like fierce beasts, and the dark clouds on the horizon seemed to engulf the whole world. She was the one who saved him, and although fifty years had passed, Ivas still remembered her snow-white skin under her light blue tight dress, her long golden hair fluttering like a waterfall made of gold, and the blue spear in her hand was so sharp that it seemed to be able to cut through all the fears of the world.
What's her name?
Ivas closed his eyes, and countless images flashed in his mind.
Sea.
The sea of the sea.
Cloud.
Clouds of white clouds.
Her name is: Hai Yun.
Ivas opened his eyes, and finally, before he became dementia, remembered her name.
But, everything is no longer there.
Ivas let out a long sigh and closed his eyes again.
He's tired.
He still remembers the night when he returned to the island of Aiva from the city of Dumille at the age of seventeen, and in the pale moonlight, his mother told him ten stories, and in the green light, he suddenly realized.
Looking at his mother's departing back and his sister's reluctant cry, he lowered his head.
This is the responsibility and the fate.
Ivas had said that he would wait for his mother to come back and watch the endless birds fly across the sky under the fiery pine, and watch the endless fields of hyacinths bear beautiful flowers.
However, this is more than 50 years.
Evas closed the yellowed journal in his hand and lay down on the bed beside his desk, gradually falling asleep. It's as if I'm back to my teenage years more than 50 years ago.
When the breeze blew through the shell-made curtains, there was a crisp rustling sound, and the endless hyacinths outside the window moved with the wind in the sun.
