Chapter 11: A Strange Homicide
It's obviously been a busy morning.
New York Police Department Homicide Inspector Kate Berette has long been accustomed to being woken up by busy work calls in the early morning, she is tall in a plain trench coat, holding a cup of coffee, flashing the police badge in her hand and turning over the police belt. Just looking at the appearance, this beautiful woman is obviously more like a model, and no one can tell that she is a trained homicide agent.
"What did we learn?" Looking at the corpses that stretched from the entrance door to the inside of the room, Kate asked with a frown. As the backbone of the serious crime team, her team has always had a very high crime solving rate, but the recent serial murder case of the "bloody beast" has put too much pressure on her, and the media outside have been noisy, and you can see the relevant news almost when you turn on the TV. Both the mayor and the police commissioner took the case very seriously, and she had been working extra shifts for several days in a row. However, it seems that no new victims have been found in the past two days, which has allowed her to catch her breath somewhat.
"Harry Hill, the boss of the neighborhood, has been told that he has supplied drugs for several streets in the neighborhood." Her agent, Harvey Blondo, walked over briskly and briefed her on the situation, and the capable agent seemed extremely professional and capable.
"There are thirteen corpses in total, including Harry, the others are his men, this is their lair, and usually no outsiders come over, so they didn't find it until this morning. It was preliminarily determined that the time of the crime was the night before yesterday, and the specific time still needs to wait for further identification by the forensic doctor. Another agent, Kevin Lane, had just finished communicating with the nearby police officers and nodded to the two.
"The innermost part should be Harry's office, and the safe is open. The drugs are still there, but the money is all gone, what do you think, grabbing land? Harvey asked with some confusion, and before he finished speaking, he denied it first, how could he not take the drugs away if he was grabbing the territory, which was no less valuable than the dollars he robbed.
"I don't know, man." Kevin shook his head, looking at the room with a bit of a stagger. "It's like a battlefield, there's a lot of bullet holes, but it's almost all shot by Harry's gang, and they look a little miserable right now."
These fierce gang members are not easy characters to deal with, but now there is no one alive, and what is even more surprising is that their deaths are all miserable, either their necks are violently twisted or their chests are torn alive by what murder weapon they don't know, and the blood and organs spilled everywhere make people shudder.
Kate put the coffee cup aside, put on gloves and leaned down to carefully examine Harry's body, this drug lord did not have the demeanor of a big man at all after his death, and there was still a look of fear and pleading on his face. She stared carefully at Harry's bare left arm, which was missing a palm, for a long time, and then looked at the dried water stains between her legs, and the expression on her beautiful face was sometimes serious and sometimes confused, as if she couldn't figure it out.
"Did these guys encounter a prehistoric beast attack?" Harvey looked at the door panel that appeared at the other end of the room, gestured the distance from here to the door, and shook his head in disbelief.
"We don't know what it is, but this guy is clearly scared." Kate stood up, her beautiful eyebrows furrowed. I don't know why, although the bodies of these drug dealers are intact, she always feels a little familiar, and her mind flashes the corpses that have been gnawed and mutilated.
Could it be the same group, she thought to herself.
"Those reporters are like cats that smell the smell of fish, and they move so fast." Several people could already hear the commotion outside.
"That's what Superintendent Gates is worried about, let's do our thing first." Kate threw down a sentence with a cold face, and Harvey sighed at the same time, it seemed that he was busy again.
ββββββ Dividing Lineββββββ
A limousine pulled up at the door of the hotel, the doorman expertly stepped forward to open the backseat door, and Raul Marcos stepped out of the RV and walked into the hotel calmly.
He is the quintessential American successful man, a senior partner at one of New York's most prominent law firms, and an excellent patent attorney, who is synonymous with shrewdness, ability, and efficiency. If it weren't for his precious daughter's request, he would never waste his time here.
If that damn boy wants to ask me to take him in, then it's better to dispel his delusions as soon as possible, this line of work is not sympathetic to the weak. Flower thought impatiently.
"I don't know how you fooled Lisa, but you only have five minutes to prove that I'm not wasting my time." Flower walked into the Vanderbilt Ballroom, located in the west lobby of the hotel, and sat down to himself, without the slightest hint of politeness. He likes this kind of dialogue, and catches his opponents off guard with a strong attitude and straight to the point, and many people fall on the other side of the table.
"Humans are really strange, they have never seen demons, but they like to depict these supernatural species in detail in various books and anthologies, which only exist in legends." Li Jie gently closed the book in his hand, revealing the words on the cover: Paradise Lost, John Milton.
This book depicts the extremely powerful demon "Satan", Lucifer and his subordinates were originally noble angels, because they refused to surrender to the Son Christ, and led one-third of the angels of the heavenly crowd to raise the banner in the northern part of the heavenly realm. After three days of celestial warfare, Lucifer's rebels were finally defeated by Christ, and fell in chaos for nine mornings and dusks before falling to hell. Eventually, they became the embodiment of sin and evil, and under Satan's leadership, they established a temple of demons in the blazing hell of Pandimannian.
It's really an interesting story, Li Jie has a smile on his face, and he doesn't seem to see Flower's cold attitude at all, but puts on a posture of a harmonious friend and a kne-to-knee conversation.
Flower was a little surprised, there are few young people nowadays who can be so calm, and his momentum as a gold medal lawyer is not something that ordinary people can bear, so he carefully looked at Li Jie in front of him.
Li Jie is wearing a Giorgio Armani suit today, with a precise shoulder line and tight lapels that show the high taste of the suitowner, which is obviously a tailor-made or modified suit. The usually casual hairstyle is meticulously groomed, the navy blue polka dot tie tied with a half-Windsor knot fully shows the visual layering, and the Girard-Perregaux watch on the wrist has a flat and relaxed expression, giving people an extremely restrained and calm feeling, as if shrouded in fog and difficult to distinguish the true face.
Flower was even more surprised to find that he was a little unbeatable to the young man's eyes. He knows very well that although he can dress up at will, his temperament is difficult to copy and imitate, could it be that this is the descendant of a top wealthy family in China? This doesn't quite match Lisa's portrayal of herself.
"Oh? Is Mr. Lee interested in religious literature? Unconsciously affected by Li Jie's momentum, Flower began to get serious and listened carefully, he vaguely felt that the young man in front of him seemed to be extremely extraordinary, and began to have some expectations for what he was going to say.
"Religion and belief are an important part of human civilization, and from the perspective of historical development, sometimes human beings need a faith to unite some or even more groups." Li Jie crossed his hands on the table and asked, as if intentionally and unintentionally. "So, are you religious, Mr. Marcos? Or what is your faith? Do you think there are supernatural forces like demons or angels? β
Li Jie's speech was slow and clear, and his eyes were calm but deep to look at Flower, making him move unconsciously, as if he was sitting a little uncomfortable as if he was indescribably awkward.
"No, I'm not religious, I don't believe in angels and demons, but if I had to talk about faith, I might believe in Franklin (the hundred-dollar bill has Franklin's face on it)." He felt that he seemed to be a little weak in front of this young man, straightened his back, and retorted half-jokingly and half-seriously.
Li Jie still looked at him calmly, and suddenly smiled after a moment. "It was just a brief exchange so that we could get to know each other better, and I hope to have the opportunity to discuss the topic of religion and belief with Mr. Marcos in the future. Vanderbilt's Marseille fish soup is very good, do you want to try it? β
"No thanks. Let's talk about the purpose of your visit to me today. Flower breathed a sigh of relief, and then unexpectedly found that he was sweating slightly behind his back, and finally realized that from the moment he sat down, he was affected by the behavior of the young man opposite him everywhere, and there was an indescribable awkwardness.
Unconsciously, he had put all his attention on Li Jie.
