Section 313 Simulation of the space environment
When September came, half a year had passed, and Levy's film finally started shooting.
It takes half a year to prepare for the preparation of a movie, which seems to be a long time. Many media did not pay much attention to this belated start-up news. Although 3D movies are something that many people are eagerly paying attention to, it seems that Levy has taken a long time this time.
For many fans, such a long preparation time for filming is enough to make many people lose patience with the movie. However, professionals who know more about the film industry are more confident in this preparation time.
Because people often know very well that the preparation time of a movie is directly proportional to the level of shooting. Especially those movies that are not short of money and do not need to worry about financial problems, when shooting, they will naturally pay more attention to the preparation of the film itself. Levy has shot a lot of movies before, and sometimes, he completed the shooting in a month, but this time, it took him half a year to prepare, and the quality of the film must be very high.
And the closer people get to his crew, the stronger this idea becomes.
"Good, that's it,"
Looking at Tim who finished filming a scene in the field. Rose, Levy applauded. This part has already been filmed for Tim. Rose's performance, Levy was quite satisfied.
Hearing Levy's attitude, Tim. Ross also breathed a sigh of relief. He was relieved to be able to complete the shooting.
Tim. When Rose was filming the TV series Ball Lightning, Rose played the role of a theoretical physicist in the TV series. Later, when filming the Three-Body Problem, Levy also invited him here. At that time, when filming Three-Body Problem 1, he can be said to have gladly accepted the invitation, and when he was filming Three-Body Problem 2 again, he accepted the invitation. It's more troublesome.
In Three-Body Problem 1, he didn't play many roles, and he only had less than five minutes in total, and he explained to everyone what is called three-dimensional expansion, and there was nothing else. In the whole process, what he needs to show is his line skills and speech organization ability, which are not difficult for him at all.
And in the Three-Body Problem 2, what he wants to play. It's going to change dramatically. When Levy told him that he still needed to play a scene of about ten minutes, but this time, he was in space and needed to shoot space, he retreated.
As an actor, he does not reject filming. Moreover, for putting the characters in his TV series on the movie screen again and again. He also found it quite interesting: although Ball Lightning was limited to the length of the novel and was a short-lived TV series, the TV series attracted quite a large number of sci-fi viewers and amassed a lot of die-hard loyalists for him. He was also very happy to be able to play this role again.
However, happy is happy, but shoot special effects scenes. It's still a headache. In the first part of Three-Body Problem 1, there is almost nothing for him in the special effects scene of the movie, and he needs to participate in the special effects shooting in the second part. This made him a little resistant.
This resistance is not because of the artistic pursuit of the actors, but purely because the special effects scenes are not easy to shoot.
However, after visiting the set, he immediately decided to come down and participate in the filming of this film.
"This part of the shooting is very good, you did a good job, as I said, you have absolutely no problem playing this."
Levy and Tim. Rose said hello and let Tim. Ross laughed a little helplessly, "There is nothing difficult about this role, it is said to be shooting space scenes, but the requirements for me are not high." I thought you'd throw the rope into the tank, but who knows, it's that simple. ”
Talking, Tim. Rose looked back at the place where he had just filmed the scene.
Inside the studio, a hollow box six meters high and three meters wide was set up there. Inside this box, 196 fast LEDs are covered on all six sides of this box, and the scene in space just now is performing in this huge box.
It was unbelievable – at least, he'd never heard of a similar approach before. I knew this was the case, why did I resist stunt shooting?
In the movie, there are quite a few parts that are done in space. From Zhang Beihai's killing people in space in the early days, to the bloody human spaceship in the later stage, these parts can only be filmed in space scenes. And how to shoot the best of these various action scenes in space? That's the problem people face.
If it is a previous film shooting, the best way is a combination of WIA, green screen, and underwater shooting. These methods are also extremely resistant to Tim Ross, and even all the movie actors. No one likes to swim in the water with a rope and have to perform, and at the same time have to be filmed by hundreds of cameras to film their movements and facial expressions, that kind of scene is a nightmare.
Moreover, there are some not-so-good aspects of the underwater environment simulation weightlessness scenario. For example, in terms of lighting, the lack of reality is the biggest problem. And in the face of these problems, it is obvious that Levy has also thought about what to do.
He took a different approach. He made this huge LED box, each of the 196 LEDs is composed of thousands of tiny small LEDs, which can emit different colors of optical fibers, and under the programming control of the computer, they can change the color very well, simulating the sunlight, planetary reflections, as well as gunshots, explosions and other different rays in space.
People standing in this only need to perform, and what the light source in their background looks like will be realistically simulated by the light of the LED box, so that they don't have to worry about anything about the light. And after these shots, they are made into a movie through the CG set and set up with virtual shooting, and the effect is much better than the original.
Compared with the original green screen technology, this approach is undoubtedly much more advanced. Both the effect and the actor are progressive.
Instead of simulating weightlessness using traditional mechanical principles, more advanced optical scenarios are used to simulate weightlessness, and this alone is enough to make people marvel.
Moreover, there is another benefit to such a shooting. Because of the surrounding light as a reference, when it is necessary to realize some movements, the actors can also do it more naturally, rather than relying on their own memory to do it. For example, if you are shot in space, there will be a picture of a bullet flying on the LED light here, which is much easier than simulating it by yourself.
This thing can really be said to be a pioneering feat. Director Levy had this thing made, which can be said to be a big step forward in shooting space scenes.
What's more, the shooting just now is more than that.
The camera on the side is also extremely amazing. In the weightless environment of space, the loss of human importance cannot be fully revealed. Because after all, filming is carried out in the global environment, people will involuntarily find balance, once the balance is lost, people will naturally tense their muscles and want to stand, which has nothing to do with acting, but a purely instinctive reaction.
And what can be done to change these problems? Levy's idea for this is also very simple. Since people can't move, it's okay to let the camera move. Of course, photographers don't have the ability to carry a camera out of a weird shooting route, but it's not a difficult thing to build a boom and let it do the shooting.
In this regard, the crew also did it. Surrounding the filming location was a converted car. When you photograph a cosmic object rotating in weightlessness, it is the thing that is moving, not the person moving. In contrast, this can be said to greatly reduce the pressure on people.
Like that huge lightbox, this thing was also made by Levy. As the owner of a film company, Levy has his own special effects company and knows enough equipment suppliers to find some friends to make these.
Moreover, for a movie with an investment of 300 million, making these is not particularly tiring.
Advanced technology not only brings more pictures to the movie, but also brings more room for the actors to play and more performance stages for the director. Tim Ross really felt these things.
"Okay, the first part is basically over, and the rest of the part is the part where you see the water droplets. The shooting of this part of the subjective shot is a key issue, the film is to be shown through your point of view, and you have figured out how to shoot it. ”
Levy said a few more words to Tim Rose.
Hearing this, Timross turned his head and looked at another camera: there was another scene on the small model of the spaceship that had been made.
Of course, it's more like a model of a spaceship, but rather a monster model: for the sake of filming, the model of the spaceship was cut through several large openings, and a camera was hung on it. Those photographic equipment are also specially manufactured, on the one hand, it can meet the dialogue shooting in a small area when the photographer cannot stand still, and on the other hand, it can also be turned to shoot a 360-degree perspective to meet the shooting needs of subjective lenses. Again, that thing was specially made by Levy.
Tim Roth has shot a lot of movies, but he is still shocked by the fact that he made his own equipment for the filming. For this movie, Levy's investment has been very large, and his investment is basically surprising. A better space environment, better simulation scenes, more help with the actors' acting skills, and the shooting of the subjective perspective of astronauts that no one has ever filmed before...... None of these things were originally necessary for a commercial film, but Levy did it all.
When you make a movie, you have to put your heart into it. Is it serious about shooting movies, and sometimes, look at the equipment to really be able to tell.
With Levy so devoted, how could the actors lose confidence when the film was being filmed? (To be continued......)
