Chapter 104: See the real chapter in the subtleties
Bajiquan is powerful at the heel, at the waist, and through the fingertips, so the explosive force is extremely strong and very rich in the characteristics of technical attack. Because the action of Bajiquan is strong, unpretentious, explosive, and has the tendency of "shaking your arms and hitting the sky, stomping your feet and shaking Kyushu", there is a saying of "Wen Taiji, Wu Baji".
In terms of fighting style, Chang Desheng's Xingyi boxing and Baji boxing are somewhat similar, both of which are hard-hitting styles.
Although it belongs to the same internal boxing as Taijiquan and Baguazhang, it must be significantly different from the Bagua's horizontal walk, Taiji, and the style of Xingyiquan is honed from the battlefield, without fancy moves, and the long strength is also the fastest. You must know that in ancient times, when the two armies were at war, among the thousands of armies and horses, there was no place for flashing and moving, so they could only go straight and go straight, walking and fighting, fighting and walking, almost like the Yellow River bursting its embankment.
Lin Mingyang has been looking forward to seeing the real Xingyi Boxing, and Chang Desheng's excuse made him a little excited. Wu Yusen next to him was also a little anxious, and he immediately asked, "Then is your kung fu still there?" ”
"Over the years, I have relied on this ability to eat, but my hard work has not fallen." Chang Desheng nodded, but he was a little puzzled in his heart, if Wu Yusen wanted to find a real kung fu master, he should go directly to the mainland to find it. Most of the martial artists in Hong Kong are from Liyuan, and they are just trying to eat well if they practice kung fu. Chang Desheng's Xingyi Quan can only be regarded as an entry, but among the people who have been dragon and tiger martial artists in Hong Kong, it can be regarded as a leader.
Wu Yusen didn't have time to catch up with him, and said straight to the point: "I have a job in my hand now, are you willing to take it?" ”
Chang Desheng's eyes lit up, Wu Yusen's work must be a "big deal". But there are so many martial arts in Hong Kong, how can such a good thing come to him? I didn't understand this, Chang Desheng didn't rush to answer, although he did need a job now.
John Woo further explained: "I have a vampire movie in my hand that is going to be filmed in Europe, and now the crew lacks an action director to design the action for the final werewolf vs. vampire of the film. Felix proposed to add kung fu elements to this action scene, but Bajiquan is not suitable for such a film, I thought of Xingyi Quan and then I thought of you. ”
Chang Desheng still doesn't quite understand: "There are so many martial artists in Hong Kong, and I'm not the only one who knows Xingyi Boxing. ”
"The fight between a vampire and a werewolf doesn't require any complicated moves, I don't want a stance, but the feeling of going straight and straight with Xingyi Fist."
Chang Desheng didn't hesitate this time, "Since you still look up to me, then I'll take this job!" ”
---Kate was also very surprised to see the new action director in the crew, she and Lin Mingyang "hand in hand" in Hong Kong, Chang Desheng can be regarded as the only eyewitness. However, Chang Desheng's performance in the crew finally proved that Kate's concerns were actually a little redundant. The other party has also been in the Hong Kong film industry for so many years, and he knows the relationship between Lin Mingyang and Kate in his heart, but on the surface, he pretends to know nothing.
As soon as Chang Desheng arrived at the crew, he heard about Lin Mingyang's previous "bad record", and even the former director of the film was overtaken by him, and it was not as simple as pinching an ant to death to deal with such a small martial arts instructor as him.
Chang Desheng knew that he could get this job, in addition to director Wu Yusen's fancy for the momentum of Xingyiquan, most of it was because of the previous friendship between the two. So he is not ambiguous in his work, and he is also cautious when contacting the rest of the crew.
Joining the Hollywood crew for the first time, Chang Desheng must have been a little uncomfortable at first, and the biggest problem was communication. Born in Hong Kong, Chang Desheng can also understand some simple English, but it is a little difficult to get him to speak.
Fortunately, Chang Desheng's work is in contact with both starring and stunts. The starring Kate Beckinsale certainly can't understand Chinese, but she has Lin Mingyang, a free translator, by her side; Chang Desheng of the special effects team needs to be directly commanded by those staff members of Jiao Weiya, and his general meaning, even with comparisons, the other party can basically understand.
The film continued to be filmed in Hungary, and after the restart, all members of the crew returned to American time. Vampires can't see the sun, so the filming of the film was all put at night, and the day naturally became a time for everyone to rest.
John Woo admired the gloomy gothic style of Wiseman's shots, which is an important reason why he didn't overturn the film and remake it all after taking over the tube.
While continuing the style of this film, the part that Wiseman filmed John Woo only selectively kept. At the beginning of the film, Catherine, a female vampire warrior played by Kate, stands on the roof of a building and jumps from an 8-story building after discovering that she is going to hunt a werewolf target. When Wiseman was filming this segment, Kate used a stunt double for the set of shots that fell from a high altitude.
John Woo was not very satisfied with this set of shots, he thought that Catherine was too relaxed when she landed. Jumping from such a high place, she should have an obvious squatting cushioning action, in the original shot, although there is also this action, but obviously during the shooting, the speed of Weiya hanging on the actor was a little slow, and the sense of gravity was not reflected when landing.
When reshooting, Chang De had an idea, he suggested that John Woo not repeat the overall landing action of Catherine in the original shot, but put the camera down when shooting, first shoot the shot of Catherine's feet touching the ground, and then pull the camera back and up smoothly. In this way, Kate didn't even need a stand-in when shooting, she only needed to jump down from a one-meter-high platform, complete the cushioning action taught to her by Chang Desheng when she landed, and then slowly stand up. After the final shot is edited, the entire landing action becomes as smooth as a cloud.
This detail made Lin Mingyang change his opinion of Chang Desheng at the beginning, although this guy is a good gambler, he does have his unique set in terms of action design.
In the second shot that Chang Desheng helped John Woo handle, Catherine shook off the werewolf leader Luxi on the roof of the car with a sudden brake, and then drove the other party away with full power. Being struck, Luxi's body has a tumbling motion in the air. Wiseman's filming didn't end the cushioning action of the final landing, but the werewolf leader's somersault in the air didn't conform to the normal impact principle.
After being hit by a car, it is not easy to land so easily, Chang Desheng first referred to the trajectory of the model flying in the air in the car impact mannequin experiment, and then combined with the martial arts action of twisting in the air, redesigned this set of shots, and finally achieved good results.
There are many similar action modifications, and Chang Desheng's endless ideas have helped John Woo save a lot of shooting costs. In the filming of Catherine rescuing Michael, who was caught by a werewolf, Chang Desheng also helped John Woo avoid a goof. In this play, Serena shoots Michael with a gun to break the chain of the handcuffs he was wearing, but the handcuffs on his wrists are missing in the subsequent shot of Michael breaking free.
Because it was filmed separately, even Lin Mingyang himself didn't notice this problem during the performance, after breaking free, Michael and Catherine in the play will have a kiss scene, Lin Mingyang and Kate look at each other, at this moment both of them have the intention of "fake play", but Chang Desheng, who was standing on the side, found this obvious loophole, and then leaned into Wu Yusen's ear and whispered to him to wake him up.
Lin Mingyang and Kate's lips just touched together, and Wu Yusen said "cut", which frightened the two of them into a hurry to separate, and they blushed and didn't say anything, and their heads bumped together in a panic.
John Woo, who was standing in the distance, pointed to his wrist, and Lin Mingyang realized that there was a goofs in the camera just now, and when he re-filmed, Catherine played by Kate shot directly at the handcuffs.
When filming that kiss scene for the second time, Kate's lips had already come up, but Lin Mingyang was a little distracted, this half-hearted kiss would definitely not pass in the eyes of John Woo, and he called a timeout again.
"Felix, what do you see me doing, you should be looking at Kate at this time!" Wu Yusen is a little strange, there should not be a low-level mistake like "distraction" in Lin Mingyang, especially in the face of a beauty like Kate, such a mistake is simply unforgivable.
Lin Mingyang was actually worried that John Woo would once again destroy his "good deeds", so he looked at the director twice more during the shooting, but he didn't expect such details to be discovered by John Woo. During the third reshoot, Lin Mingyang had no worries, he and Kate naturally kissed together, but with the last two experiences, Kate locked her teeth this time and didn't give Lin Mingyang's tongue any chance to enter.
The small movements between the two were not discovered by others, that is, when Wu Yusen felt that the shot was almost okay, the crew's lighting system suddenly lost power, and the surroundings suddenly became invisible. The darkness plunged the crew into a brief chaos, and everyone could only grope their way forward by feeling, in addition to bumping into people, they would also knock over some things from time to time.
Of course, Lin Mingyang would not miss this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, he suddenly hugged Kate into his arms, took advantage of the other party's coquettish gap, and drove his tongue straight in, breaking through all her defenses in an instant.
Just when this wet kiss lingering on the tip of the tongue made the two of them a little inseparable, Chang Desheng suddenly shouted in the dark: "It's repaired, and the call will come soon!" ”
He used Chinese, and the people around him didn't understand it, but Lin Mingyang reacted. He hurriedly let go of Kate, and the lips of the two had just separated, and the crew's lighting system returned to normal.
The entire power outage lasted no more than 5 minutes, Lin Mingyang and Kate still maintained a face-to-face standing posture at this time, he turned his head to look at Wu Yusen, "Do we need to do it again?" ”
The footage just shot in the camera was not lost, and Wu Yusen shook his head, "Inform the scene reporter, let's shoot the next one." ”
---Chang Desheng didn't know that he had inadvertently done Lin Mingyang a big favor, in fact, he didn't have time to think about more things, and all his energy was now invested in the design of the action scene of the vampire and werewolf Armageddon at the end of the film.
In Wiseman's original plan, this final fight scene did not exceed 5 minutes, but John Woo thought that this should be the first paragraph of the film, and there must be a very brilliant action scene, and it could not be simply over, and he asked Chang Desheng to design a fight scene of at least more than 8 minutes.
When designing the movements of the vampire Victor, Chang Desheng incorporated the style of Xingyi Fist straight forward, fierce and ruthless, and the fighting movements of the werewolf boy Michael, Chang Desheng referred to the Eagle Claw Fist. Because after Michael turned into a werewolf, his hands became claws, and the eagle claw boxing that changed from flip boxing is a kung fu that specializes in finger grasping. This kind of boxing method imitates the action of the eagle claw grasping buckle, requiring the hand to collapse and fight, and the whole routine is violent and fierce, fast and dense.
On the basis of eagle claw boxing, Chang Desheng also incorporated some action postures when the wolf attacked, and all the movements were real punches to the flesh. He drew a sketch of the action according to his own ideas, and John Woo was full of praise after reading it, and immediately decided to shoot the entire fight scene according to his ideas.
These actions designed by Chang Desheng on the sketch are not too difficult for Lin Mingyang, but the British actor Bill Nigh, who plays the vampire leader, is a little unbearable. He is not only the oldest actor in this film, but also the most complicated one in makeup.
John Woo didn't set out to use the computer CG technology that is common in most films, believing that CG had merit, but it was inevitably a bit inadequate when it came to creating hairy creatures. And the audience of "Tales of the Night" is the generation that grew up watching Hollywood monster movies, and he demanded that there must be something tangible in the film that makes people feel within reach. So in the film, from the sleeping zombie to the awakened vampire, the process is all done by the makeup artist. And most of Bill Nye's time on the set was spent in makeup and makeup removal.
Lin Mingyang has a background in martial arts, so it is not difficult to complete the actions designed by Chang Desheng and meet the requirements of the director. But Bill Nye has never been exposed to similar performances, and his age is also an issue that cannot be ignored, he is in his 50s and does not have the physical strength of Lin Mingyang, which has brought a lot of difficulty to the filming of the film.
For this reason, Chang Desheng once again revised his action design, and the scene of Lin Mingyang in the entire fight was obviously aggravated. Considering the difficulty of Bill Nye's performance, Lin Mingyang has to take on the role of active attack, and he will have a lot of aerial grabbing in the camera. And Bill Nie's movements during filming are relatively conservative.
Even so, this scene was filmed over and over again for a week, and Chang Desheng had to personally demonstrate every action in the camera for Bill Nye, and then constantly correct it during the shooting, so that the effect that satisfied John Woo was achieved.
