Chapter 5: FOX Visitors
Perhaps stimulated by the glamorous scene just now, Red looked a little lost when he broke up with Lin Mingyang at the intersection and said goodbye. Lin Mingyang, who was helpless, could only make an apologetic expression towards his back.
Until Red's figure disappeared into the corner of the street, Lin Mingyang was still standing in place, he was not reminiscing about Meghan Fox's unique kiss, but worrying about how to deal with the various rumors that spread over the next and the boys who were originally unkind to him in Moss Middle School. Being so troubled by Megan Fox, Lin Mingyang knew that his low-key and peaceful high school life had come to an end.
When he walked to the door of his house, Lin Mingyang found that the Lincoln car parked on the side of the road was a little eye-catching.
Lin Mingyang's mother, Catherine, was walking out of the kitchen with a cup of hot coffee, and happened to meet her son who was changing shoes at the door.
βfelixοΌβ There was a surprise in her voice that could not be concealed.
Lin Mingyang raised his head, but found that his mother was looking at him with a very strange look, and her gaze never left his face.
"Mom, do I have dirt on my face?" Lin Mingyang was a little confused by his mother's strange behavior.
"I think you should go to the bathroom and wipe your face first!" Catherine seriously suggested.
Lin Mingyang subconsciously touched his face, he suddenly realized what his mother was referring to, and understood why she reacted like that. It's ridiculous that he actually walked 4 blocks with that lip print in a daze. After making a big red face in front of his mother, Lin Mingyang, who was full of embarrassment, hurriedly changed his shoes and slipped into the bathroom on the side as if fleeing for his life.
Fortunately, Megan didn't use that kind of bright lip gloss today, so it only left a faint lip print on Lin Mingyang's face, which was not so obvious if she didn't look closer, which made Lin Mingyang breathe a long sigh of relief. When wiping his cheeks with a wet towel, Lin Mingyang finally had time to reminisce about that ** fragrant kiss, and the little wildcat-like surname in Megan's bones greatly stimulated Lin Mingyang's adolescent body in terms of perception. After the crossing, Lin Mingyang found that it was difficult for him to be as calm as before in the face of beautiful women. But before he could imagine it, his mother's knock on the door was already urging him to come out quickly.
"It seems that your campus life is far more exciting than we imagined!" Leaning against the door of the bathroom, the smile on Catherine's face was playful.
"Mom!" In Lin Mingyang's righteous and stern protests, Catherine finally stopped being curious about this issue, and the lip prints on Lin Mingyang's face can only show that he is indeed very popular with girls at school. In fact, after watching the crazy performance of those girls chanting "felix" at the Firefox game, Catherine was mentally prepared for this kind of thing.
She didn't take this little accident to heart, but stuffed the freshly brewed coffee into Lin Mingyang's hand, "There are guests at home, and they are looking for you!" β
"Looking for me?" The puzzled look in Lin Mingyang's eyes became more and more obvious.
"Felix, I don't know how much you're hiding from me and your dad!" Catherine finally made a straight face at this time: "The other party has already taken the initiative to come to the door, I don't think you need to continue to hide it." β
Seeing Lin Mingyang's cramped and uneasy look, Catherine suddenly realized that her words might have gone too far, she gently patted Lin Mingyang's shoulder, "Don't be nervous, although you have hidden this matter from us, I believe you should have your own ideas, go in, don't make the guest wait for a long time, he is here for your script!" β
When his mother mentioned the word "script", Lin Mingyang finally understood what was going on, in fact, he had just sent out the script, and the other party responded so quickly?
With the doubts that had not gone away, Lin Mingyang walked into the living room with some hesitation, he obviously needed some time to digest this problem.
When Lin Mingyang appeared at the door of the living room, this boy with thick black hair made Josh Schwartz suddenly have a feeling of brightness in his eyes, if it weren't for the slightly green face of the other party, he would have suspected that it was the popular Hollywood movie star Keanu Reeves standing in front of him.
βfelixοΌβ Seeing that Lin Mingyang, who was holding a cup of coffee in his hand, did not take the initiative to come forward to say hello, Josh Schwartz took the initiative to stand up.
It wasn't until the other party kindly stretched out his right hand to him that Lin Mingyang found that it was not a very polite move to stand at the door of the living room and look at the other party, he hurriedly stepped forward and shook the other party's hand, "You know my name, but I don't seem to know you?" β
Josh Schwartz took the coffee handed by the boy, sat back on the sofa, and he did not rush to answer the boy's doubts, but crossed Erlang's legs to change to a more comfortable sitting position, and gently took a sip of the aroma of hot coffee with a very comfortable look on his face.
"This coffee must taste great, why don't you have a cup of it yourself?"
"It's my mom's own coffee, and even though it tastes good, I prefer soft drinks!" Lin Mingyang took out a can of Coke for himself from the Xiaoice cabinet in the living room.
"You're nervous?" Josh Schwartz seems to have seen through Lin Mingyang's thoughts.
"It's probably the same as when you first encountered this situation!"
Lin Mingyang's answer surprised Josh Schwartz, and he suddenly felt that the boy in front of him was not as simple as he thought, although he didn't intend to underestimate the other party from the beginning, and the other party was just a 15-year-old high school student.
"I've had a brief conversation with your father before, and I'm sure you've learned from her about my intentions, okay, officially my name is Josh Schwartz, and I'm currently working for Fox TV!" Josh Schwartz sat up straight and put away the casualness on his face in advance.
"Are you a director or a producer?" Lin Mingyang's brows moved, and his face did not show the excitement that the other party expected.
"I'm a director!" Josh Schwartz found that he did not take the initiative in the conversation as expected, and the gradually solemn expression on his face made him instinctively feel that the boy in front of him was not easy to deal with, and he even felt that if he did not modify the original negotiation plan, then he would probably be disappointed this time.
"May I assume that FOX TV has taken enough interest in my offer of The Orange County Boys for your arrival?"
"My colleague appreciated the script you sent me, so Fox decided to buy all the episodes for $15,000 each." Josh Schwartz was careful with his wording, and although the station's director enjoyed the plot of "Orange County Boys," he didn't make that intention obvious. For an average high school student, his offer is not a small amount.
"20,000 per episode, you know I'm only sending Fox the first season of the script, if you can accept this price, I can guarantee that all episodes of the second season will still be at this price! If you can't accept it, I'm sure that if Fox personally sends a director to negotiate the script, other TV stations will be very interested! Lin Mingyang's reply after a little thought had no intention of giving the other party room for bargaining.
If it weren't for the investigation of Lin Mingyang's background in advance, Josh Schwartz would not have believed that such words would come from the mouth of a boy who was only fifteen years old, a newcomer who had just emerged, but the facts were in front of him, a little absurd, but very true!
Lin Mingyang told Josh Schwartz with a serious expression that he wasn't joking.
"Before you make a decision, do you ask your parents for their opinions?" After a brief silence, Josh Schwartz decided to discuss the issue from a different perspective.
"They have always been very respectful of my personal ideas!" As he spoke, Lin Mingyang glanced at the kitchen, intentionally or unintentionally, "This time is no exception!" β
"Felix, what I want to say is that you are still just a newcomer, and you must know that opportunities in Hollywood are far more valuable than ready-made benefits!" Josh Schwartz added not without hint.
"To be honest, when I decided to write this script, I was just trying it out, I never expected to be famous, and my parents always wanted me to go to college, but luckily I was doing well in school and I was good at basketball. I believe that with any of these, I will be able to apply to a good university after graduation, so becoming a screenwriter is not my only option! Lin Mingyang didn't let Josh Schwartz touch a soft nail.
"Are you sure this is the final reply?" Josh Schwartz finds that things are inevitably going in the direction he least wants to see, and one side must back down or it will end up in a stalemate sooner or later.
Seeing that Lin Mingyang's resolute eyes did not flicker at all, Josh Schwartz finally had to sigh helplessly.
This long sigh not only meant his compromise, but also made Lin Mingyang's always nervous mood suddenly relax. Although he did a good job of hiding this nervousness, he was already sweating in his palms at this time.
The fact that Fox TV was able to come to his door to negotiate with him shows that the script has received enough attention from the other side, and Josh Schwartz's concession further confirms this. originally thought that he would have to wait for a while, but he didn't expect the other party to react so quickly, which was beyond Lin Mingyang's expectations.
When Josh Schwartz left, it was Lin Mingyang's mother and son who sent him to the door together. Before getting into the car, Josh Schwartz turned to Catherine and said, "Madam, I think you must know that there is a famous walk of Fame in Hollywood!" β
Catherine nodded, she knew that it was a very famous pedestrian street in Los Angeles, with more than 2,000 star medals with the names of Hollywood celebrities on it to commemorate their outstanding contributions to the American entertainment industry.
"In the near future, I believe that on that path of honor, Mr. Felix's name will definitely be engraved on that road of honor!"
Everyone knows that those who can leave a name on the Walk of Fame are outstanding figures in Hollywood, Josh Schwartz's statement is inevitably a bit exaggerated, but the appreciation of Lin Mingyang is self-evident. Hearing the other party praise her son like this, Catherine just smiled and thanked her. This faint smile hung on her face until the Lincoln disappeared around the corner.
"We've got to talk!" Mother Catherine's words made Lin Mingyang's plan to find an excuse to slip away suddenly came to naught.
"Now?" Lin Mingyang still had a trace of luck in his heart.
"Now!" Mother's resolute tone shattered all Lin Mingyang's thoughts of getting by, it seems that he has to be honest today.
In the living room, Catherine made herself a cup of coffee, while Lin Mingyang held the unfinished can of Coke just now.
"I didn't know you still liked to write scripts, you didn't have such a hobby before!" Catherine's eyes burned against her son.
"It's also an idea that has only recently popped up!"
"You used the time you spent at home resting when you were sick to write the script, when your body hasn't fully recovered?"
"Mom, in fact, I was in good health during that time!" Lin Mingyang nodded helplessly, in fact, in addition to writing the script during that time, he also spent part of his time on clearing the new version of the game.
"But the doctor said you need more rest!" Catherine took a soft sip of her coffee, "Although I don't approve of your behavior, it seems that you have achieved good results now!" β
Up to now, Lin Mingyang has not captured her attitude towards this matter from his mother's tone, which makes him feel a little apprehensive. "So-so, 45-minute episodes, I've written 27 episodes now, and Fox TV is willing to buy them for $20,000 per episode!"
Speaking of this, Lin Mingyang even has a faint sense of pride in his heart, just the income from writing scripts for more than half a month is already comparable to the income of an ordinary American family for a year, no matter how he says it, he feels that this is a very lucrative career.
"So our family is about to have a big Hollywood screenwriter?"
"The script needs to be liked by the audience." The more at this time, Lin Mingyang felt that his expression should be more cautious, although he knew that if there was no accident, the ratings of "Orange County Boy" would definitely not be low, but he couldn't say it too absolutely in front of his mother.
"You mean the story isn't over in the script, so there's a sequel?"
"If the audience likes the story I write, then the TV station will continue to think about filming the script I provided!"
"Felix, to be honest, I was surprised by your performance, but at the same time gratifying. Many children of your age in the community have learned to use their spare time or vacation time to earn an income for themselves, and although your family's financial conditions don't require you to do so, it's clear that you're doing a good job and have more ideas than others. β
Mother's previous sentence of affirmation just made Lin Mingyang's hanging heart fall to the ground, but the latter words immediately made his heart half cold, "Although we will not object to you writing a script, this may be your hobby, but I hope you will focus on your studies, and your father and I both hope that you can receive a university education first, and then enter the society to find your suitable position." β
"Even students who graduate from top universities in the United States do not necessarily make it to the elite of society, and some of them don't even earn as much as I as a fledgling screenwriter!" Taking advantage of this rare opportunity, Lin Mingyang tried to change some of his mother's overly traditional views.
"But we still hope that you can get a university education, instead of entering society too early, of course this is our idea, for you this is just a suggestion, neither your father nor I can force you to choose, but we hope that you don't give up your studies, unless you really plan to be a screenwriter for the rest of your life!" As a competent mother, Catherine knows how to guide her son to make the right choice, rather than blindly demanding it, which she knows will only lead the child of this age to rebellion.
"Okay, Mom!" Although he answered a little reluctantly, the path that Lin Mingyang decided to take was actually not in conflict with going to college, with his ability, it was not difficult to be admitted to a reasonable university, first get the support of his family, and when he had enough chips in his hand, it would be easy to convince his parents.
