Chapter 047: Snake Tongue
Chapter 047: Snake Chamber
"What's going on?" Professor McGonagall was surprised to find that all seven of the seven students who did not attend the Halloween party had been "escorted" by Snape to the Headmaster's office, along with the Myrtle they had just been looking for, "Did you make that 'prank'?" β
"No, it's not!" The three Gryffindors hurriedly denied, "That's it when we get there." β
"I'll tell you!" Catherine stepped up and explained, "I heard a strange sound coming from the ceiling, so I followed him, and I met Harry and them on the way, and they followed me to the end of the sound, which was near Myrtle's bathroom, because the two openings of the secret room were related to this, so I tried to use snake language. β
"Snake Language! You're a snakeman! Ron shouted in horror, and the others looked at Catherine with shocked expressions, but Harry was dazed.
"It wasn't until tonight, when I saw the snake language version of the Slytherin precepts, that I realized I could actually understand the snake language." Catherine said calmly, as if she were talking about the dishes for dinner, "And the snake whisper is indeed the key to the secret room, and Myrtle's reaction just now also confirms that the monster that killed her fifty years ago did indeed come out from behind the sink in that bathroom." β
"I've set up vigilance magic there," Snape interjected, "and if someone wants to open the chamber, it's going to set off an alarm. β
"And according to Myrtle's description, I guess the monster in the secret room should be a basilisk." Catherine concluded.
"Basilisk?" The three Gryffindors asked, confused.
"The basilisk is a large, dazzling green serpent that can reach up to fifty feet in length. The male snake has a bright red feather on its head. "It's Brace," its fangs are unusually toxic, but its most dangerous attack is to stare at its target with its large yellow eyes. Anyone whose gaze touches its gaze will be killed instantly. β
"That's how I died!" Myrtle exclaimed.
"I have a question," Hermione asked, raising her hand, "I've seen the description of the Chamber of Secrets in Hogwarts, a piece of school history, built by Salazar Slytherin more than a thousand years ago, so will the basilisk still survive to this day?" β
"Basilisks lived a very long lifespan, hundreds of years if they were fed well, and it is thought that the first recorded basilisk, 'Hellbo the Mean', lived for almost nine hundred years." Pansy answers for her, "The basilisk is born from eggs hatched by toads. It is a natural predator of spiders, but the crowing of a rooster is deadly to it. β
"That is," Ron said innocently, "we just need to fill Hogwarts with roosters." β
"Mr. Weasley," Dumbledore said suddenly, "this is a basilisk that has lived for at least a thousand years. β
"The hardest problem now is not how to deal with that basilisk," Catherine muttered, "but figuring out who else in Hogwarts can speak snake language besides me?" β
Everyone thought about it, but Harry raised his hand sadly.
"And me." He groaned in pain.
While the others all looked at Harry in shock, Catherine said thoughtfully, "Looks like something else happened that night that we didn't know about. β
"What you don't understand?" Brace looked at Catherine and Harry quizzically.
"Are you reallyβ" Pansy suddenly found herself unable to say what she wanted to say.
"Curse of Loyal Loyalty, the secret is Professor Dumbledore!" Catherine smiled and explained, "I don't think Harry was suspicious, because the last time I heard the sound of the millennial basilisk in action, he was in lockdown with Ron at Mr. Filch. β
"Are you referring to the night of that Quidditch duel, when you looked up with the snakes?" Snape asked with a glare.
"Yes." Catherine nodded, and Harry breathed a sigh of relief, "That's right, I was polishing my father's medal when I suddenly heard that scary voice. β
"No wonder I didn't hear it at the time, I thought you were talking on purpose, but Filch thought we were lazy and scolded us." Ron was embarrassed to say, "I remember polishing a medal for a special contribution award to Tom Marvolo Riddle!" β
Catherine, Draco, and Snape all suddenly looked at Dumbledore with strange expressions, while Professor McGonagall let out a long sigh and said, "Albus! It's time to settle the matter! β
"That's going to startle the snake." Dumbledore frowned.
"Hogwarts is where Salazar grew up, and although it has been transformed by the other three sages," Catherine warned sternly, "Serpent is still a master pass to this school. β
"Catherine has just shown it through, let's go straight from Myrtle's bathroom to your office door." Snape said in a gloating tone, "Maybe the next time the basilisk comes out to feed, I'll stop by and say hello to you." β
Dumbledore was stunned for a moment, and then made a decision: "Tomorrow morning, I will reveal the truth about the incident in the secret room fifty years ago." Martial law for the whole school tonight! Everyoneβ" he looked at the portraits of past headmasters on the wall, "please inform all faculty and staff, primarily all ghosts and portraits, to make sure that none of the living people wander the hallways tonight." β
The principals of the past immediately left and rushed to issue a notice.
"Minerva, Severus, take the children back first." Dumbledore commanded, "I need to think about what to do next!" With that, he sat down in his chair and began to ponder.
The two professors looked at each other, and then quietly left with the seven students, the Gryffindor common room was also on the eighth floor, Professor McGonagall quickly took Harry and them back, and explained to Percy and the others, of course, she did not mention the secret room and the basilisk, but the ugly faces of the three Harry also made them realize the seriousness of the situation.
The Slytherin common room was in the basement, and Catherine simply used Serpentine again to conjure up a shortcut to Hogwarts leading directly to Snape's office door, which made him frown.
"Professor, tomorrow is Halloween anyway, so why don't you send us home first." As soon as she returned to Slytherin territory, Catherine was built.
"But the others ......," Draco looked worriedly in the direction of the dormitory.
"It's true that there are no portraits on Slytherin territory," Catherine smiled, "but there's no shortage of 'snakes' here." With that, she told Andrew and Antney about Dumbledore's orders in snake language, and asked them to relay them to the other "snakes".
"Is that why you always come into my office at will?" Snape asked suddenly, coldly.
"I can swear I did only know I could snake tonight!" Catherine said innocently, "I always thought they spoke English, and this is the wizarding world, soβ" She smiled silently.
Blaise and Pansy rolled their eyes together, and for the first time they discovered that Catherine and Harry were indeed twins, and that they both liked to make common sense mistakes.
"Humph!" Snape snorted coldly and walked into his office, then took Draco, Brace, and Pansy to Malfoy Manor, while Catherine stayed behind to ask Enric and Enrico about the Chamber of Secrets and the Basilisk.
[Douglas is Salazar's pet,] Enric spoke first, [The other three also know that the place where it lives is not the secret room mentioned before Salazar left, the real secret room refers to Salazar's office at Hogwarts.] γ
[Although Salazar asked Douglas to stay behind to protect the school and students in his place, the basilisk is a magical creature of the '5X' level after all, and Salazar did not allow it to enter the castle when unaccompanied, and the other three students were also afraid of the naughty students running to find Douglas, so rumors of 'there are terrifying monsters in the secret room' began to circulate.] An Liwen then explained.
[Then why did Myrtle die fifty years ago?] Catherine asked, "If Douglas really obeyed Salazar's orders to protect the school and the students in his place." γ
[It was an accident! Enric hung his head and said, "Because Douglas is not like us as just an ornament, it has remained in its lodgings almost forever since Salazar left. γ
[At first, Salazar's descendants visited it and accompanied it out to activities, but in the 'witch hunt', the Slytherin family suffered a very heavy blow because of the obvious feature of being able to talk to snakes, and the inheritance was completely cut off, and finally developed to the point that even Hogwarts did not come.] An Liwen sighed, "Since then, no one has known about Douglas's existence until his arrival. γ
[What did you sue him about Douglas?] Catherine asked.
[Nope! Salazar is not allowed to sue anyone, including his descendants, unless asked, after all, we can't refuse orders from the Snake Talker, just like you and Harry Potter. Enric shook his head and said, "So it took him five years to discover Douglas's residence, which he thought was the real Chamber of Secrets. γ
[Douglas welcomed him very much, after all, it had not seen a living person for nearly five hundred years, and it was very eager to enter Hogwarts again and see the school it had not seen in a long time.] An Liwen sighed and said, "They set the time at midnight, because at that time, except for the professors who patrolled the castle, basically no one would be in the corridor, but they didn't expect Myrtle to hide in that bathroom and cry so late. γ
Why don't they choose other exports? Catherine wondered, "Hogwarts' plumbing system allows Douglas to move anywhere. γ
He doesn't know. Enric shook his tail quickly, looking very angry, [He has indeed been looking for information about Slytherin, but he has no regard for Slytherin's real territory, such as sewers and the like!] γ
[Then why didn't he make Douglas smaller?] Catherine asked, "Didn't he become Douglas's master?" γ
[He is not eligible, Douglas's owner must be a real Slytherin.] An Liwen said, "And since Salazar left, no one has been able to be its master. γ
"Whew!" Suddenly a turquoise flame erupted from the fireplace, and Snape and Lucius walked out together.
"I really didn't expect that the most suitable key has always been by our side." Lucius smirked and pulled out Voldemort's journal.
