Chapter 018: The Eve of School
Chapter 018: The Eve of School
At seven o'clock in the evening, when Snape arrived at the Headmaster's office, he found that in addition to Dumbledore and the other three Headmasters, there were Hagrid and Madam Bobby Pomfrey, who was in charge of the medical wing.
"The people are here." Dumbledore beckoned Snape to sit down and said, "Today's topic is about the two special students who have entered this year. β
"Are there any other students besides Harry Potter that need our special attention this year?" The interviewer was Professor Minerva McGonagall, the school's vice-principal and head of Gryffindor House, who was dressed in a bright green robe, with her black hair tied in a high bun, and her expression was very stern.
"We'll talk about it later, another student, let's talk about Harry first," Dumbledore looked over his glasses at the tallest person in the room, "Hagrid, you picked up Harry, tell me about him." β
"Yes!" Hagrid replied loudly, straightened up from his chair, and nearly hit the ceiling of his office, which seemed to have consciously jerked up a few inches.
"Harry, he's so skinny, I almost didn't recognize him when we first met, if it weren't for the fact that his face looks so similar to James......" Snape snorted, so much so that Hagrid forgot what to say next.
"How's he doing?" Professor Pomona Sprout, the head of Hufflepuff House, kindly asked, a chubby lady with a kind smile on her face that made one want to get closer.
"Very bad!" Hagrid replied angrily, "His aunts treated him as a servant, they never told him anything about the wizarding world, and if I hadn't gotten there, they wouldn't even have even allowed him to come to Hogwarts!" β
"How is this possible?" Exclaimed was Professor Felius Flitwick, the dean of Ravenclaw College, who bounced out of his seat, short and his head was no taller than Hagrid's knees when he fell to the ground.
"Albus, I said the couple wasn't fit to be Harry's guardians!" Professor McGonagall pushed her square glasses and glared at Dumbledore.
"Minerva, I also said that Harry is not a good fit to grow up in the wizarding world." Dumbledore tugged at his purple robes with an uneasy look, "I don't think there's a kid who wouldn't be overwhelmed by this sheer fame. β
Everyone present was silent until Madame Poopy Pomfrey suddenly spoke.
"I guess we're talking about Harry Potter going to school." Madam Pomfrey had a stern expression, she was not normally used to attend such meetings, and as a therapist she only cared about the patient, "with his fame, he would have caused a commotion when he entered the school." β
"So I want you to treat him as a normal student as much as possible." Dumbledore looked at the people present.
Everyone nodded, and Snape said coldly, "I would never consider him a savior!" This sentence made everyone who heard it have a strange expression.
"The second freshman I'd like to draw your attention to next is Catherine."
"Harry's sister?" Professor Flitwick jumped out of his chair again.
"Yes, she looks very much like Lily when she was a child, and her eyes are brown like James." Hagrid replied aloud.
"Really?" Professor Sprout clutched at his robes.
"When did you find it?" Madam Pomfrey also looked surprised.
βWait!β Professor McGonagall shouted, interrupting the exclamations, "I remember none of the children on the freshman list were named Catherine!" β
"I think you need to explain it well, Our-headmaster!" Snape stared at Dumbledore in a cold tone.
"That's exactly what I'm going to say." Dumbledore raised his hands and pressed them lightly, and everyone fell silent, and Hagrid sat back in his huge chair.
"You should know," Dumbledore's voice was soft, "that every underage wizard has a trail on him. β
"It was placed on them by officials of the Ministry of Magic when their birth was registered, or when their magic went out of control, in order to confirm their location and prevent them from having unpredictable consequences if their magic went out of control. Butβ" Professor Sprout's voice choked.
"When we first discovered it ten years ago, it turned out that the trace was also out of order, and we couldn't find the missing 'Catherine' by any means." Professor McGonagall patted her on the shoulder, taking Professor Sprout's words.
"Last year I happened to hear about a girl who looked very much like Lily when she was a child - magic was out of control, I immediately ran to her and used magic on her, wondering if she was Catherine, but I was surprised to find out that my magic was out of order, no matter what type of magic it was for her, and finally I used Muggle methods to find out that her name was Catherine, and she was an orphan."
"Is it really her?" Professor Flitwick exclaimed, jumping out of his chair again.
"However, when the admission notice was sent this year, I didn't see 'Catherine' name," Dumbledore's tone was a little helpless, "in order not to give up any possibility, I wrote a letter of admission and sent it to her." β
"You mean to say that there's something or a spell in her that protects her, so magic doesn't work for her." Madam Pomfrey clasped her hands tightly, "What is that or a spell?" Dumbledore! β
"I don't know, no, I shouldn't say I'm not sure which one, Bobby!" Dumbledore tightened his long silver-white beard.
"So," Snape asked, expressionlessly, "is she Lily's daughter?" β
"I'm sorry, Severus." Dumbledore said apologetically, "I can't be sure of that unless she agrees." β
The crowd was silent again, until Dumbledore spoke again.
"Because of the peculiarities of Catherine's body, not only does magic not work for her, but it is also difficult for her to use magic, therefore, Minerva and Filius," Dumbledore pushed his glasses and began to explain, "I hope that in the Transfiguration and Charms course, you will not be too her." β
"Yes!" Professor McGonagall, who teaches Transfiguration, responded succinctly, and Professor Flitwick, who teaches spells, nodded cheerfully, "Okay! β
"As for the Defence Against the Dark Arts class, I've already consulted with Professor Quirinus Quirrell. Also, Hagrid ......"
"In!" Hagrid jumped up from his chair and jumped up the ceiling again.
"I hope you'll keep an eye on the Forbidden Forest and don't let Catherine run in alone."
"I'll do it!" Hagrid raised his right hand and patted his chest in reassurance.
"Sit down!" Dumbledore then looked at the person he had specially called for the meeting, "Bobby, since healing magic doesn't work on Catherine, I want you to be prepared in advance, and although we don't want to see her get hurt, it's hard to guarantee that nothing will happen. β
"I'll go prepare some Muggle cures later." Madam Pomfrey said with a calm face.
"Don't be in such a hurry," Dumbledore said with a smile, "I think the potions should still work for her, so, Pomona and Severus, please bother." β
"As it should be!" Professor Sprout hurriedly responded.
Snape, on the other hand, just nodded, "Doesn't it matter to her that her name doesn't appear on the freshman list?" β
"The principal has the right to admit any student, Severus." Dumbledore explained with a smile.
"Oh!" Snape replied meaningfully, not speaking again.
"Okay, that's all for today, please be ready to welcome the new students tomorrow." Dumbledore stood up and declared the impromptu meeting over, and the wizards present rose to say goodbye to him.
When there was no more sound outside the closed office door, a portrait hanging on the office wall suddenly spoke.
"Although the Headmaster has the authority to admit any student, but, Dumbledore!" It was a wizard with a goatee, slender eyebrows, and a smart face who spoke, "The name Catherine Potter disappeared from the freshman list ten years ago, and we all know that there is only one way to make a student's name disappear, and that is ......."
"Phineas!" Dumbledore interrupted the wizard, "Don't jump to conclusions, you'll understand why I made the decision when you meet her." β
"Albus!" An emaciated wizard said in a tone with a hint of sternness, "We won't negate your decision, but we hope you're prepared to take the consequences, remember that Hogwarts doesn't accept Muggles!" β
"Don't worry, Armando, Catherine is by no means a Muggle." Dumbledore chuckled.
"What kind of school is Hogwarts?" While the Hogwarts professors were discussing herself, Catherine was also studying her notes on Hogwarts.
And hearing Catherine's self-talk, her pet showed a strange expression.
"You must know, don't you? Tracy! Catherine didn't ignore the pet's strangeness.
Bluebird Tracey lifted her petite chest.
"You're not going to sue me, are you?" Catherine asked with a wink.
The little one immediately nodded vigorously.
"Soβ" Catherine tapped its cheek, "tell me where to start, I should be able to?" β
Bluebird winked at Catherine and jumped on top of a word.
"Slytherin!" Catherine flipped to her own note, "An isolated academy whose members graduated, half became rulers of the wizarding world, and half went to Azkaban (wizarding prison)." β
"Either become the admiration of all or the fear of all people." Catherine squinted her pet slightly, "Tracy, this is a big challenge!" β
Tracey makes a defiant gesture with her wings.
"Well, I do like a challenge. But," Catherine jumped up from the bed, "we need to pack our things now." β
With that, Catherine jumped out of bed and began to turn her things out. By the time Snape returned, the room was full of all her belongings.
