Chapter XVII Review

When I opened my eyes in the morning, the sun had risen high. Mom really doesn't tell me to get out of bed.

When I walked out of the room, the smell of rice came to my nose, waking up the cravings in my stomach. When I walked into the kitchen with my eyes rubbed, I saw my mother busy there.

"Mom." I walked over and hugged her.

"Get up, go wash up. We'll be able to eat later. Mom pulled my hand away and pushed me out.

"Mom, you don't ask me to help you, and you still cook so many dishes." I turned and scooped the spatula from my mother's hand.

"Usually you're not at home, but when you finally come back, you don't want to eat your mother's cooking." Mom scooped out two bowls from the cupboard behind her and held the rice. She's like that, she just doesn't like to be idle.

"Of course I want to, you can call me along. How tired you are. ’’

"Silly boy, what's so tiring about cooking. Mom is in good health. ’’

"Mom, let's go to the hospital today and have a recheck." I turned to my mom and said, looking at her expression.

"No, Ma just went to check a few days ago, okay." Looking at her evasive eyes, you knew she was lying to me.

"No, I have to go today. Usually you go alone, but today I will accompany you. Mother wanted to say something, but I refused.

From the time I left home to the entrance of the hospital, my mother kept shouting to stop going, and the more she said that, the more uncertain my heart became. Could it be that my mother's illness is already very serious, and she doesn't want me to know. Thinking of this, I just want to go to the hospital quickly and ask Dr. Wang for clarification.

When my mother was taken by the nurse for a full check-up, I went to Dr. Wang's office. For Dr. Wang, who has just walked out of school in his twenties for a few years, he didn't recognize him at first. However, after several years of his treatment of my mother, it gradually improved.

"Dr. Wang, is it convenient?" I pushed the door open and saw him sitting at the table writing something. Hearing someone call him, he hurriedly raised his head.

"Xiaolu, why didn't you accompany your mother to check?" He smiled and stood up, took a glass of water and handed it to me. I reached out and took it and shouted thank you.

"Dr. Wang, I'm here to ask about my mother's condition and how she is doing."

"Just sit down, Xiaolu, just call me by name." He gestured to the chair behind me and motioned for me to sit down. I pulled over my chair and sat down, looking up at him, desperate for answers.

"Don't worry, during this time, your mother's condition is still very stable, and there are no major changes, as long as you pay a little attention not to be too tired." He looked at me with a smile and a soft tone. Hearing him say that, my heart suddenly felt a lot easier. Look at him gratefully.

"Thank you, Dr. Wang, I really don't know how to thank you." ’

"No, it's all my job. And if you want to call me by my name in the future, I can't be a few years older than you. After saying that, he looked at me dotingly and smiled. I could tell it was spoiled.

"Okay." I smiled and nodded.

For him, I am grateful. Since I went to college, I can't always be with my mother, he is with me every time I have chemotherapy, and a few days after chemotherapy, my mother can't eat anything, and he goes to my house whenever he has time to bring my mother the meals he makes for patients. The medical bills have been in arrears for a long time, and he will always ask us to pay them when he learns about them. The medicine prescribed is also bought cheaply and efficiently, and I go to the pharmacy to scoop the medicine myself. Mom is always on the phone about how good Zifeng is and takes good care of her. I don't know why he did this, maybe he sympathized with our mother and daughter who were lonely. Every time I go to the hospital, I take the prepared meal with me, and I have no other way to repay him, which is the only thing I can do. Every time he laughs and compliments me on the deliciousness of my cooking, I feel that I owe him a little less. Because he did everything I had to do when I wasn't there.

He stopped me when I turned to go out

"Xiao Lu, when are you going to leave this time?" He asked softly, looking at me, and there was something in his eyes that I didn't understand, maybe I didn't want to understand.

"Oh, I'm on vacation for 4 days and I'll be gone in 3 days. Zifeng? I looked back at him. Awkwardly called out his name. He seemed very happy to hear me call his name.

"That, do you have something to do tomorrow, it happens to be tomorrow weekend, I take a day off and want to go to your house." He spoke shyly, with longing in his eyes.

"I've been at home with my mother for the past few days, you can come over tomorrow, and I'll cook for you." He used to praise me for cooking deliciously, and he probably wanted to come to my house to eat.

"Alright, I'll go over tomorrow."

"Well, rubbing rice is your real intention." I squinted at her with a wicked grin.

"Oops, little Lulu saw through it." He stretched out his hand and pretended to cover his face, which was very funny.

"I don't know you yet, so let's do it first, I'll go see my mother, remember to be early tomorrow, you have to do it."

"No problem." He readily agreed.

I smiled, shook my hand at him, and walked out of the office.
