Chapter 14: The Beginning

By the time the weather in Berlin was getting cooler, it was already mid-October. |[2][3][][x]}

On the third Saturday of the month, just after breakfast, Hans and John were busy. Today is the weekend, and John has invited seven or eight Americans who are also studying at the University of Berlin to come to his home, so it is natural to prepare well.

Before I knew it, it had been more than a month since I entered the school.

With the help of his distant uncle, and his own good deeds, Johann was unsurprisingly admitted to the University of Berlin, where he was one of the 1,700 freshmen of 1883.

For more than a month, he gradually got used to his current life.

I went to school on time every day, and I was silently familiar with the professors, teaching assistants and classmates around me, and of course, more importantly, I silently learned about the university of this era. With his status as a new enrollment, he is not yet qualified to enter the real yĆ n room, and John himself does not plan to show himself so soon, and follow the young people who are entering the school at the same time.

Not...... Strictly speaking, it can't be considered a mess.

For John, who has a complete junior high school and college experience in his previous life, the knowledge of this era is obviously too simple, and the only thing he needs to spend time to understand is nothing more than what knowledge has appeared in his mind, and which has not yet been realized and summarized. So naturally, John focused his main energy on "making a wide range of friends", especially the Americans who studied at the University of Berlin. In just one month, he met nearly 50 American students in various ways, and more than 30 people studying in medical schools were all familiar with each other!

Inviting you to be here today is how John intends to further connect with each other.

But after an hour of busyness, John sighed and said with a helpless wry smile: "Mr. Elber, I'm starting to miss my time in New York. ā€

"Sir, in fact, I can handle these things alone."

While busy preparing dessert for lunch, Mr. Butler said with a smile.

Although John was really not short of money now, after careful consideration, he still gave up on hiring a maid and a cook. Hans had nothing to do at home all day, and his cooking skills were not bad, so there was no need for this. And although the family conditions of American students in this era are generally not bad, after all, the rich are still a minority, and John doesn't want to be too isolated. After all, he can rent such a house now, and there is a Hans to take care of, which is conspicuous enough in itself.

"Bang! Bang! Bang! ā€

Just as John shook his head, smiling and about to say something, there was a knock on the door outside.

Hans hurriedly opened the door, and soon brought back two envelopes for Johan, and said with a smile: "Sir, there are two telegrams from you. One was from old Mr. Huntelaar, and the other was from London, and was supposed to be from Mr. Stone! ā€

"Grandpa and Joshua's telegram?"

John's heart moved, and he quickly got up and took it.

John was not surprised by the telegram from the elder Huntelaar, and in fact the telegram exchange between the two had been uninterrupted since he sent his first letter to his grandfather, stating that he would choose to study for medical school. Old Huntelaar was extremely angry with John's choice, and directly reprimanded him with an expensive telegram, but after John's clever explanation, his grandfather had finally calmed down lately. John's reason is simple, medicine is the specialty he is most interested in now, but he will not relax in other aspects, and he is guaranteed to get excellent results!

Perhaps considering John's talent, after the two spent a considerable amount of money on the telegraph, old Huntelaar's attitude gradually loosened a little.

"I guess this telegram should be about the same."

Although it felt that old Huntelaar should have accepted his choice, after hesitating for a moment, John did not read his grandfather's telegram first, but picked up Joshua's one.

A look at it reveals only two short lines: the matter has been agreed upon, and we will arrive in Berlin around October 20.

"Hoo ......"

After seeing these lines, John immediately breathed a long sigh of relief.

About half a month ago, Joshua had sent a telegram from London, informing John that he and Funk had arrived in London, and now that Joshua had booked a ticket to Berlin, the construction of a bicycle factory in England must have been negotiated.

For all reasons, Joshua and his family did not choose to invest directly in the UK.

Although bicycle sales are still extremely hot, bringing a steady stream of cash returns to the bicycle factory, after more than a year of high exhibitions, Joshua and his family are still extremely helpless before leaving for the United Kingdom, and the factory's capital chain is in trouble.

On the one hand, because the scale of the factory continued to expand, the number of workers continued to increase, and almost all the profits were invested in reproduction, and on the other hand, the tricycle also sold well after it was launched, although the sales volume could not be compared with ordinary bicycles, but the price was much higher, and the profits were higher, so Joshua and they had to invest money to expand, so that they could not draw more money at all.

It would not be cost-effective to build a small factory in the UK, but if you wanted to increase the scale, you would not be able to draw up the funds in a short time, so after much hesitation, Joshua and Funk decided to work with the British.

For the Stones, who are originally from the UK, this is not a problem at all.

Joshua envisioned that they would talk to an elder of the Stone family about building a bicycle factory together. The patents, technology, and some of the money were provided here, and the elders of the Stone family contributed land, workers, and money to build a large bicycle factory, which was sold to the entire British Empire and all the colonies, and each side held half of the shares. This idea was approved by the elder Huntelaar, and before leaving New York, Joshua and Funk jointly wrote a letter to John of ten pages, explaining the difficulties and problems they were facing, and explaining the necessity of building a factory in England as much as possible, and pushing the final decision over.

Without any hesitation, John agreed.

As long as he is guaranteed to make more money, John doesn't care who controls the factory, and he doesn't care whether his stake is high or low. To put it bluntly, this bicycle factory is just the product of a whim, and its main role is to earn him a lot of money in a short period of time, and as for the future, it is not John's focus. In fact, if someone could make a price that would make him feel good now, John wouldn't mind selling all the patents and shares!

"The next step is to build a factory in Germany."

Putting Joshua's telegram aside, John furrowed his brow and pondered secretly.

He was not worried that Joshua would object to this proposal, after all, Germany had begun to rise rapidly in those years, and because they were all natives, the economic conditions were not comparable to those of American immigrants. According to John's understanding during this time, the average worker already has some money left over from rent and daily expenses, and it should not be particularly difficult to save up to buy a bicycle. And let's not forget that Germany is also surrounded by large countries such as France and Austria, and its purchasing power is also quite strong.

The key is the question of who to partner with!

Originally, in the eyes of old Huntelaar, the Schiller family should be the best choice, but John was a little reluctant. Not to mention whether there are sufficient funds and talents and other basic conditions, my relatives do not have any business talents, I am afraid it is not enough to support the management and operation of a factory.

And......

Bikes are definitely a good business nowadays, and since Johann has the idea of making a career in Germany, it is also a good choice to use this advantage to make friends with some local powerhouses in Berlin!

"Let's talk about it when Joshua and the others come."

After thinking about it for a while, John put the matter aside for the time being.

The time was almost up, and the first guests were about to arrive in a few moments, and Johann relieved himself, rolled up his sleeves, and soon joined Hans in his busy business......
