CHAPTER XV
At the end of June 1887, the weather in New York was very pleasant.
Although it was already summer, for New York, which is located by the sea, the temperature rarely exceeded 30 degrees even at noon, and it would be below 20 degrees in the morning, which made John very satisfied. You know, in an era when there was no air conditioning, not even electric fans, how painful it was to live in a hot city.
"Today's words...... Seventeen degrees? β
After going out, he tilted his face and took a deep breath, feeling the fresh smell in the air, John muttered a word. I don't know if it's a benefit after being reborn, John's sensitivity to temperature makes him very surprised, and sometimes he even wonders if he needs a thermometer at all......
"Gotta ......"
The sound of horses' hooves in the distance woke John from his daze. It was just six o'clock in the morning, and New York City had not yet fully recovered from its slumber, so the sound of horses' hooves was particularly clear in the quiet morning.
"Good morning, Steve."
After waiting for the people in the carriage to get down, John greeted them warmly.
"Hah...... Good morning, John. β
After looking up to the sky and yawning, Steve blinked his still somewhat confused eyes, and couldn't help but complain: "God, even if I arrive at your door, it won't be six o'clock...... I really don't understand why you chose such an early time! β
As early as the day of the party, John said that he would go to his hospital with Steve, but because of all kinds of trivial entanglements, it was not until a week later that he finally had free time and called Steve yesterday. As the "contractor" of the hospital, Steve certainly had no reason to refuse. But he couldn't understand why John had set the time so earlyβhe had to be at his house before six o'clock!
At this time, the sky is just getting dark!
"Haha, of course there's a reason for letting you come so early."
Stepping forward and patting Steve on the shoulder, John smiled and said, "Because only by setting off at this point in time, we can get to the hospital all the way without delaying on the way......"
"Delayed on the road? What do you mean? β
Scratching his head in a daze. Steve didn't quite understand what John meant.
The distance from Huntelaar's house to the hospital is only a few miles, and it takes up to half an hour by carriage, and Steve can't understand why he set off so early, after all, this era is different from later generations, and there is no such thing as a traffic jam.
"Alright, let's go first."
Without opening his mouth to explain, John smiled and spoke.
"Okay."
Shrugging his shoulders, Steve didn't follow up, and said casually: "I don't think you need to call Henry." You can ride in the same carriage with me, and we can also chat along the way, saving boredom. β
Steve's suggestion was natural, but John smiled and said, "Steve, let's not take your carriage today, how about we change to a new type of transportation?" β
"A new type of transportation? What is it? β
Steve was stunned when he heard this, and asked in confusion.
Just as John was about to explain, there was a sudden booming sound twenty or thirty meters away from the two of them. The unsuspecting Steve was suddenly startled: "What's going on?" This...... What is this sound? β
"Our transport is coming."
Grinning, John looked in the direction the voice was coming from.
Under Steve's stunned gaze. A huge iron box made a roaring sound and "rushed" towards the location of the two of them, which startled the self-proclaimed well-informed Steve at first, and then as if someone had been stuffed into a fist, his mouth could no longer be closed......
β¦β¦
ββ¦β¦ John, lend me a week! β
Until the two of them walked out a few dozen meters. Steve was still pleading with his friend, "Don't worry, I just want to study this one more...... Uh, what's it called? β
"Cars!"
John glanced at his friend speechlessly and said helplessly.
As he expected, the ten minutes from home to the hospital. The appearance of the car did not attract much attention, because there were not many people on the road at all. It's just that the friends around him chattered all the way, and their mouths almost never stopped, which made John regret a little bit that he drove out today.
"Yes, yes, car!"
Glancing back at the Aurora in the distance, Steve said urgently: "Lend him to me for a week, I can pay the rent!" Fifty Dollars...... No, how about a hundred dollars?! β
Looking at the Aurora, Steve was like seeing a charming girl.
When he saw this so-called car for the first time half an hour ago, Steve's whole body was as if he had been hit by electricity, and he was stunned for a long time before he came back to his senses. Then he realized that this was the car that had caused a huge sensation in Europe, and John was the owner of this car!
Almost a minute after the car drove out, Steve fell in love with it!
It was faster than a horse-drawn carriage, more steady than a horse-drawn carriage, and most importantly listening to the somewhat noisy roar of the engine, Steve felt a burst of blood gushing inexplicably - this thing was definitely much more powerful than a horse-drawn carriage! So without hesitation, Steve opened his mouth to borrow it for a while.
For an average New Yorker at this time, a hundred dollars is at least three months' income, which is quite a huge number! If it had been Steve five years ago, a hundred dollars might have been his expenses for two months, but after working with John with Lego, he now pays five figures a year, and a mere $100 is nothing. If he hadn't known that John wouldn't let go, he would have even bought it with money - even if it was $3,000!

Faced with his friend's plea, John refused without hesitation.
Of course, John would not agree to lend the car, knowing that this aurora was also transported back to New York only the day before yesterday, and now how could John, who has to go out almost every day, lend it to others?
He had never liked carriages before!
Without waiting for Steve, who was in a hurry, John waved his hand and smiled: "Steve, if you are interested, I can lend it to you in a while, but not recently, and you know how much I hate carriages...... Now I can't live without it! β
"Okay."
Nodding with a bitter face, Steve was full of reluctance.
But John didn't pity the curious fellow, and he quickly turned his attention to the building in front of him, his own hospital, which was finally on full display......
