Chapter 494: The Age of Nuclear Fusion

In addition to the completion of the "Dongfanghong" space power station and the "seawater diversion to the west" project, when the world is in chaos and the economy is in a major recession, there has been good news coming out of Xinhuaguo.

In June, the Biosphere 3 project, located near the Vostochny New City, was completed and began to enter the experimental phase, providing data for the space station and the planned lunar base.

At the same time, Taoyuan Group's super upland rice, Taoyuan regenerative rice, artificial cultivated meat, evergreen forage, improved sea buckthorn, vertical farm intelligent management system, ecological toilet and other projects have been selected for the space experiment and lunar base plan.

The program aims to develop and cultivate a variety of space plants to provide astronauts with a green environment, oxygen and food.

At present, astronauts in space breathe oxygen produced by physical and chemical methods, and eat food stored on aircraft or transported by cargo spacecraft.

If humans are to go further and explore Mars or other planets, flying for months or even years, they must provide sustainable oxygen and food through biotechnology.

The space laboratory in Oriental New City has gone one step further, targeting organisms such as algae and bacteria.

Through cultivation techniques such as bioactive fluids, 1 cubic meter of algae can produce enough oxygen for an adult to survive in an enclosed space for a day.

There are many kinds of algae plants, and in addition to providing oxygen, they also have the advantages of large production and rich nutrients.

For example, chlorella in freshwater algae contains 50% protein and 10~30% fat, and its nutritional value is equivalent to 5 times that of eggs and 2 times that of peanuts.

Spirulina, which is 100 times larger than chlorella, contains 68% protein, which is 3 times that of lean pork. It also contains nutrients such as fat, sugar, fiber, potassium, calcium, magnesium, iron, and multivitamins.

Now spirulina has attracted people's attention and has become the new favorite of the health care products market.

Some are optimistic that in the near future, algae plants will provide more than 10% of the world's protein.

In the cognition of ordinary people, bacteria are often associated with illness. Actually, there are too many kinds of bacteria. Each has different characteristics, and only a small fraction of the bacteria that cause illness in humans are present.

Like algae, bacteria, which are so small that they are invisible to the naked eye, have the potential to be a staple food for humans in the future.

For example, scientists have discovered a bacterium that eats oil, and after eating oil, its bacteria become a pile of alabaster that becomes a liquid protein like milk powder after drying and other processing.

The nutritional value of petroleum proteins is extremely high. One ton is equivalent to more than 2 tons of lean meat or 3 tons of eggs, or 12 tons of milk. It can be used as both human food and animal feed, and is quite versatile.

As biotechnology continues to advance, algae and bacteria will replace many foods in the future, whether there is enough food to eat, on people's tables, or in space flights.

In early August, the first space module of the Tiangong space station was built. And five astronauts were stationed.

In September, it was dominated by Hualong State. Together with Xinhua China and Oriental Space Science and Technology Corporation, the three parties jointly launched the lunar development plan in the form of a company.

After launching two lunar exploration satellites and conducting field investigations of unmanned reconnaissance frisbees and remote-controlled lunar rovers, an underground cave with a large amount of ice in the South Pole was initially selected as the construction site of the base.

October. The Kra Canal, jointly built by Hualongguo, Xinhua and Siam, was opened, which was the first project in the world to make extensive use of fully automatic intelligent machinery, which took less than two years and only used more than 10,000 workers.

In contrast, the Panama Canal, opened to navigation in 1915. Hundreds of thousands of workers were hired and it took 10 years.

The Suez Canal, which was opened to navigation in 1869, also took more than 10 years, and the Egyptian people paid hard labor and huge costs, and more than 120,000 river diggers sacrificed their precious lives.

In November, the first phase of the nuclear fusion power station in eastern Guangdong Province, which was built by Oriental Construction Company, was completed ahead of schedule, and the follow-up work is progressing smoothly.

More than 10 nuclear fusion power station projects in various coastal provinces of Xinhua, as well as in the hinterland and northwest China, are stepping up their discussions, project approvals, and launches.

The Jaga fusion power station in Hualong has already been put into use earlier, and the operating costs of the power station are negligible if the initial investment is not included.

Imagine how powerful machines people would build to satisfy their desire for conquest if electricity were free and the voltage and current could be adjusted at will.

The nuclear fusion power station under the Eastern New City is also playing a huge role, which is an open secret at the top of the government.

It is foreseeable that after nuclear fusion power stations completely replace the original power generation methods, mankind will enter a beautiful era of low energy prices or even free energy.

Although it will take time for Xinhua to fully enter the era of nuclear fusion energy, coupled with the promotion and application of rare earth nano-battery technology, the strategic position of oil has been greatly reduced.

Thanks to breakthroughs in energy technology, the problems posed by other resources have also been mitigated.

It can even be said that as long as energy is not restricted, even environmental protection problems that pose a serious threat to the survival of human civilization will become history.

The reason is simple: the elimination of fossil fuels will reduce the carbon dioxide emissions of human daily life and production by more than 80%.

In order to meet the growing global demand for electricity, Dongfang Nuclear Power Company has begun to develop new nuclear batteries, mobile nuclear power plants and domestic nuclear reactors, in addition to building four nuclear fusion power stations at the same time in China.

Nuclear batteries, also known as "radioisotope batteries", are manufactured by continuously emitting heat energy from isotopes during the decay process through semiconductor transducers, and then converting them into electrical energy.

Nuclear batteries are not a new technology, they do not produce much current, and are only suitable for applications where power consumption is low but requires uninterrupted power supply for a long time, and has been successfully used to power built-in medical equipment, as well as military or space applications.

Another advantage is that the "nuclear raw material" used is tritium, an isotope of hydrogen, and since tritium has a half-life of 12.43 years, this battery can continue to provide power for a long time without replacement.

The new "nuclear battery" developed by Dongfang Nuclear Power Company is only the size of a 1 yuan coin, and the electricity is strong.

Although the name has the word "nuclear", this type of nuclear battery is quite safe, because the decay of tritium only produces high-speed electrons, and such electrons cannot penetrate the human body unless a large amount of tritium is taken orally or injected into the body.

The mobile micro-nuclear power plant will be housed in a closed box, with 24-hour continuous power supply, which can be transported by truck with minimal maintenance.

The cost of this micro nuclear power plant is not high, about 300,000 yuan, and the power generation power is 30~40 megawatts, which can meet the electricity needs of 100,000 households, and is also extremely extensive in military use.

Household nuclear reactors are even smaller, less than two meters in diameter, capable of generating more than 200 kilowatt-hours of electricity per hour, and can operate for 40 years once operational.

Its principle is basically the same as that of a normal nuclear reactor, but the volume is less than one percent of that of an ordinary nuclear reactor, so that ordinary families can have their own "nuclear power plant" and use it to generate electricity.

The safety of improvised miniature nuclear reactors is extremely high, there is no risk of leakage of radioactive materials, and they cannot be weaponized by terrorists. (To be continued......)
