Chapter III: Community Issues
Anyway, Catherine's middle school career has begun, and she has moved to Lily's dormitory.
At first, Catherine thought she would be able to skip grades just as much as she did in elementary school, but then she really realized the difference between American education.
In the first history lesson, the teacher asked them to write a report in which they imagined themselves to be a dictator, and then told how they would rule the country and set the final outcome.
Are you sure this isn't the outline of the novel?!
-- But it's cruel, that's the truth.
A report that needs to be at least 8 pages long!
Unfortunately, this is true, and it couldn't be more true.
When I was in class, it was completely different from the elementary school classroom and the Chinese classroom.
In class, 7 or 8 students sit around the table, and then the teacher sits in the middle. Classes start at 8:30 p.m. and end at 2:30 p.m. every day.
That's not all.
Catherine's second challenge was to write a family tree of less than seven generations in a week.
Catherine's grandparents and maternal grandparents died as early as World War II, how can you find this? But the teacher doesn't care about this, if you want to get an A, you have to look for it, and if the grade drops to C, you have to receive additional tutoring, Catherine has a lot to do, how can she have time to take care of this?
But it's okay, Catherine made a phone call back, and Bruce and Emma mobilized, although the parents have passed away, but there are no other relatives at home, a few long-distance phone calls to Europe, and then send a document back, and finally get it all done.
In the first two weeks of school, Catherine encountered a "dismount", but fortunately, the troublesome homework was only these two times, and after the start of the SAB school, the homework became ordinary.
In the past, Catherine had heard that homework in the United States was bizarre, and that in elementary school it was very easy and there was almost no homework, but now, she has seen the "divergent thinking" of Americans.
Although this matter is over, there is one more thing that gives her a bit of a headache.
That is to join the club.
"Plus gymnastics club? I thought you'd want me to go to a photo agency? Looking at a leaflet that Lily had handed to her with a smile, Catherine was a little strange.
"Don't you want to capture your beautiful moments in your photos? And I don't know about the other clubs. The chess club, the astronomy club, the literature club, to be honest, I have a headache when I listen to these. But my relationship with the gymnastics club is the best. ”
It seems that the school clubs in the United States, Europe and Japan are all present, and in Catherine's mind, it seems that the best middle school club is probably Japan, and the best college club should be the United States, and what sorority and the like are all in the movie. However, it seems that middle school students in the United States are also keen on club activities.
Catherine had seen movies depicting the lives of American middle school students before, but in this "key middle school", the plot in the movie was almost invisible, and Catherine didn't know if it was because the time was too short, or because of the school, or because the movie was not written.
But there is one thing that I think is very similar to in the movie, that is, middle schools in the United States are really troublesome.
"I can dance ballet, but I'm not familiar with gymnastics."
"But I think you're going to like it."
Catherine rolled her eyes, "You really don't look like a traditional American." ”
"There is no such thing as a traditional American, and my parents were British immigrants." Lily replied nonchalantly.
"Then you don't really look like an Englishman."
"That's why my parents immigrated."
Never mind...... Just play around.
Unable to resist Lily's repeated persuasion, Catherine finally chose the gymnastics club, Lily became excited all of a sudden, and then pulled Catherine to prepare to take her to the gymnastics club to visit.
"Speaking of which, Lily, why do you like photography so much?"
Halfway through, Catherine suddenly asked.
"Even though my father was a photographer, I had no interest in photography at first, but then I fell in love with Elvis Presley, and then I wanted to be a photographer, and then I got in touch with Mr. Presley up close, and even became his full-time photographer. But then somehow, I fell in love with using my camera to record the beautiful things I could see, and I suddenly realized that photography is such a beautiful thing~",
The two walked for about ten minutes before walking from the dormitory to the gymnastics club training place. The venue looks nice and big, but there are only seven girls practicing here, and it seems that the instructor is not there, it seems to be spontaneous.
"Hey! Bonnie! Lily waved excitedly at the girl who seemed to be in the lead.
"Lily!" The girl came over.
The girl, named Bonnie, was not pretty, but she seemed to have a good body, and her tights and tights completely framed her curves.
"That's what I told you about Catherine. Kate, her name is Bonnie, is the president of the gymnastics club. ”
"Hello, Catherine."
"Hello, just call me Kate."
The number of gymnastics clubs is very small, which probably has something to do with the lack of people in the school, after all, there are only more than 300 people in this school, but there are more than a dozen clubs now, and not everyone is interested in clubs, in fact, if it weren't for Lily's instigation, Catherine would not have joined this club.
But it's hard to say, I've seen various clubs on TV countless times, and Catherine is very interested in this thing that seems to be very popular abroad, and it probably doesn't matter if you experience it a little, right?
Although Lily was excited to bring Catherine to visit, but because the instructor was not there, she would have to wait to join, so Catherine sat next to her, and then watched them practice, while Lily picked up the camera, and the flash kept flashing until she ran out of rolls of film, and then she gave up.
Catherine looked at them, and to be honest, although this gymnastics looked a little different from ballet, it didn't seem to be too difficult. These guys also seem to have some basics, but they are not too professional.
In the United States, it is very common to learn dance from an early age, but people go to college, work, and live like ordinary primary and secondary school students, and they will not have an impact on their learning of cultural knowledge because of learning dance, but on the contrary, because they have a skill, and then become the priority of some prestigious colleges and universities. The main performers of many top theater companies, such as the New York Ballet, learned in this way. Many of them also have diplomas in other majors from prestigious universities in the United States. So, even if these actors end their dance careers, they can choose another profession based on their expertise, such as architectural engineers, lawyers, or even doctors.
