952 Be Your Own ECU?

With a decision in his heart, Lin Zheng did not hesitate. Pen "Fun" Pavilion www.biquge.info
Regardless of whether you remember wrong or not, this kind of thing has always been a mistake and has not been let go, even if there is only a 1% chance of gambling. It's just that the specific way to do it still has to be considered if Herman. Fan Longpei is really the person in his memory, so he is not short of money now, nor is he short of political capital, I believe that there will definitely be no lack of support behind him to climb to the current position, what should be done, and careful consideration is needed, these politicians do not have a good relationship, seize the opportunity to absolutely pit you without discussion, don't forget, you are a foreigner.
Just when Lin Zheng was pondering what angle to start, Erik. McGraw's phone rang, and moments later Eric . McGraw's face was solemn: "Boss, ZF has shot again." ”
"Huh?"
Eric. McGraw gritted his teeth and said: "Bosch has notified us through unofficial channels that Siemens Semiconductors is adjusting its production capacity, and there may be problems with chip supply during this time. ”
"What does it mean that they are going to limit the capacity of our automatic transmissions in this way?" Almost without even thinking about it, Lin Zheng figured out what ZF was thinking: the main control computer is the brain of the automatic transmission, and the main control 7≧ computer of the CVT automatic transmission produced by Bunge has always been provided by Bosch, and the main control computer produced by Bosch has always used the chips provided by Siemens Semiconductor.
"What other explanation can there be?" Eric. McGraw said hatefully: "These vile and shameless Germanic fat pigs! I'm going to go back and take a good look at the contract! ”
Look at what the contract does? Of course, it is to see how the liability is delineated in such cases in the contract, and if the way the liability is delineated in the favor of Bunge Power, just look at Eric. McGraw's hideous expression. Lin Zheng knew that this guy would never let Bosch go so easily.
However, Lin Zheng felt quite suspenseful, since Bosch dared to do this. I believe they must have carefully studied the contract they signed with Bunch before, and made sure that it was okay to warn Bunch Power before they dared to do so. But he wasn't prepared to stop Eric. McGraw, he doesn't know what the contract says, does he?
It was Bosch who was so stimulated, and Lin Zheng suddenly had an idea: "Eric, how about we do our own ECU?" ”
"We do our own ECUs?" Eric, who was still menacing just now. McGraw was stunned for a moment: "Uh...... Boss, are you sure you're not kidding? ”
"You think I'm going to joke about this kind of thing?" Lin Zheng asked rhetorically.
Eric. McGraw also felt that Lin Zheng was unlikely to joke about this kind of thing, but the problem was ......
"Boss, of course there is no problem in terms of hardware, but Punch only has experience in developing CVT automatic transmission control computers, not engine control computers." Eric. McGraw smiled wryly, "You know how hard it is to develop an ECU, right?" ”
Lin Zheng nodded. He really knows how hard it is to develop an ECU.
Today, the world's three major ECU suppliers are Bosch in Germany, Denso in Japan and GMAG in the United States, which monopolize more than 90% of the market share of the world's in-vehicle computer systems, and Siemens also occupies a small part of the market.
Is it hard to do ECU? Difficult! In fact, there are still some domestic companies that have the strength to develop ECUs, and even several leading national automobile brands in China have the strength to develop their own ECUs.
But why aren't there companies developing their own ECUs?
The reason is very simple, in layman's terms, ECU is actually a dedicated embedded computer, all the chips on it, the induction devices used in the car can be bought from the market, and it is already available on the basis of hardware. However, the biggest reason why we did not develop our own ECU is that there are certain technical difficulties in ECU development - the difficulty lies in the development of control strategies and matching calibration, such as the opening of intake valves and throttles, the timing of ignition timing, and the formulation of fuel injection strategies...... These technologies require a long period of accumulation and need to be substantial. This is also the core technical secret of Bosch and Denso in the United States, which is absolutely impossible to transmit, and independent car companies are not enough to do it in a short time.
Even the hardware and software parts are not the most difficult. The biggest problem is actually cost control.
ECU's hardware and software development are similar to embedded hardware and software development in other industries, and it is relatively easy to recruit people with relevant work experience. And then just be willing to spend money. At Bosch and Denso, we have recruited a few experienced people with strength to take the lead and develop a strict development process. Do software and hardware testing seriously, and change all problems seriously without fooling around, so that the software and hardware of the ECU can do a good job.
It takes 7 to 10 years for an ECU product to be approved from the project to the final product, and the design cost is extremely high. Everyone spent about the same amount of design costs, and independent car companies designed an ECU, and only 100 of them were sold; Bosch and Denso easily sold 10,000 at once, how to compare the cost control? The cost of others is less than 500, and you still have to make money by selling 800, and your cost is 1000, how can you compete with others?
Self-development, do not do well and expensive, so many independent car companies choose to buy Bosch and other ECUs, has become an illusion that "independent car companies do not have the ability to design and develop ECUs", but in fact this is not the case, in addition to the German Bosch, Japan Denso, GMAG and Siemens these giants, there are many small companies engaged in ECU, but unlike Bosch and Denso, these giants specialize in large customers, these small companies are more oriented to the field of private car modification, That is, we are familiar with plug-in computers.
Of course, Lin Zheng didn't want to make a plug-in computer, he had his own ideas: "Eric, I think we actually have a great advantage in doing ECU, first of all, we have our own engine factory, this factory is not only for us, we are facing a huge market with a population of 1.2 billion. ”
Eric. McGraw patted his head, and then he remembered that his boss not only had Tesla Motors and Jiangbei Alto, but also an engine manufacturing plant that was about to be put into production, if that was the case...... He suddenly found that he was very unlucky.
But even so, Erik. McGraw was still a little hesitant, after so many years, he had long been accustomed to the difficulty of considering one thing first: "But boss, what about the cost?" How do you control costs? Denso has almost monopolized the ECU market of the entire Japanese automotive industry, with Denso producing more than 10 million ECU products per year; Bosch has a monopoly on the entire European market, and the annual output of ECUs is also more than 8 million units, in terms of the development cost of this thing, the production capacity of less than 500,000 units is a loss of money, we have so many engines to assemble? It's still that the other side doesn't fight a price war with us, and if they fight a price war with us, it will be even more troublesome.
In addition, technically, we have no experience in developing ECUs at all, and we are blind to control strategies and matching calibration, even if we can go to Bosch, Denso, and GMAC to poach people, but the core things cannot bring too much. ”
"I don't think this problem is very big, as an IT company, we have our own chip foundry partners, and there will be no problem with the chip supply of ECU," compared to Eric. McGraw was worried, but Lin Zheng felt that he had a lot of advantages: "First of all, technically, we own 50% of the shares of the Minardi team, and as an F1 team, Minardi has a lot of experience in engine tuning;
Secondly, we are now looking to acquire Cosworth, as the world's only independent F1 engine supplier, Cosworth has a wealth of experience and data in engine tuning, and Cosworth can help us a lot in terms of control strategy and matching calibration;
In terms of production capacity, we have Jiangbei Alto, Tesla Motors, and our own engine factories for external supply;
As for cost control, in terms of the cycle of developing an ECU product, it will take 7 years at the earliest, SmartCity and Jiangbei Alto alone can provide a minimum of 200,000 installed capacity, and in terms of the development speed of our country's automobile market, I think it should not be a big problem for our total engine production capacity to exceed 500,000 units by 2005. ”
Before 2010, the annual production capacity of Shen & Yang Aerospace Mitsubishi engine is about 500,000 units, and the production capacity of Dongan Mitsubishi is probably so, the reason why several major independent brands decided to launch their own engine projects, the biggest reason is that Mitsubishi stuck neck stuck really can't stand it, if Dongan Mitsubishi and Shen & Yang Aerospace Mitsubishi from the beginning of the major national car manufacturers open to unlimited supply, the four major national car brands will develop their own engines is really hard to say, Mitsubishi's approach can only be described as short-sighted...... However, the Japanese have never had any strategic foresight.
The supply of chips is fine, with Cosworth and Minardi to help provide control strategies and matching calibration, if the target of 500,000 engines per year can be reached......
Eric. McGraw suddenly found that his boss really had the most solid foundation for developing his own ECU, and the dude became excited. (To be continued.) )
