Wake Up, Girls! Interview with the voice actors
Recently, some Japanese media have responded to the "WakeUp, Girls! Seven rookie female voice actors conducted an exclusive interview. Let me reveal the true side of these girls......
The TV anime "WakeUp, Girls!" that began airing in January this year, "WakeUp, Girls! tells the story of 7 girls who follow the path of idols. The biggest feature of this film is that the voice actors of the 7 main characters in the play are all auditioned. These 7 girls have been trained in various aspects including dancing, singing, and acting since less than a year before the anime was broadcast. Like the characters in the play, he has accumulated results with sweat and hard work from scratch.
Recently, some Japanese media have responded to the "WakeUp, Girls! members. Let me reveal the true side of these girls......
- First of all, please introduce yourself. You can talk about your own strengths, similarities and differences with your role.
Miyu Takagi: I'm Miyu Takagi as the voice of Miyu Okamoto. My specialty is sports, and because I used to practice classical ballet, I am very good at spinning circles. Plus, I've done a few track and field events! If you want to talk about the resemblance to the character, I am often referred to as a crybaby (laughs). The difference is that Weixi belongs to the type of looking forward to everything, and I am more conservative and not very proactive.
Nanami Yamashita: I am Nanami Yamashita, who voiced Nanami Kumi. He is good at playing the flute, and he is also a little confident in cooking. Also, sometimes I like to draw. Similar to the character, it is easy to get nervous and has tiger teeth.
Airi Nagano: I'm Airi Nagano who voices Ranri Hayashida. I have been practicing dance since the fourth grade of elementary school, so I am good at it. I think it's a crying person, and I don't have much confidence in myself, so I'm more negative (laughs).
Kaya Okuno: I'm Kaya Okuno who voiced Natsuya Kikuma. His specialty is piano and fingering (the thumb can be bent) (laughs). I don't think there's anything particularly similar to Summer Night, but she has a mantra called "That's okay," and I often say, "That's it!" ”。 Maybe it's a little similar in this kind of unbounded place.
Masuke Yoshioka: I'm Mayu Yoshioka, the voice actor of Mamume Shimada. Like Miyu, I've been practicing classical ballet so far, so my body is softer. That's a specialty. The similarity with Shimada Mamu-chan should be the position in the team...... And under the influence of real dreams, I also began to like little yellow chicken. People often say that I'm getting closer to the true dream little by little. And the difference between me and her is that sometimes I have a Kansai accent that has no sense of reality. I'm from Osaka, but it's still weird (laughs).
Yoshino Aoyama: I'm Yoshino Aoyama who voices Kano Nanase. I've been practicing choral singing since elementary school, so I really like to sing with everyone. But I'm not very good at singing...... Hey? Isn't that what you just said!? That, the specialty is not a solo, but a chorus! Also, I'm similar to Ji Neng in that it's perfectionism. The difference is that you call yourself perfectionist, but you can't always be perfect (laughs).
Mikai Tanaka: I'm Mikai Tanaka, who voiced Minoru Katayama. My specialty is swimming, and as long as I start swimming, I can swim anywhere! But like Minoru Katayama, I'm not really good at sports, especially athletics. Of course, in the water I am invincible! And I think I like to eat good food, which is very similar to Shibo. And the difference, Shibo is a character with a younger sister's attribute, and I'm a big sister.
-- The work has been shown in theaters, and the TV version is also being broadcast on TV. Please let us know what you think about it and how the people around you react.
Yoshioka: If everyone happens to be there during the time when TV Tokyo airs the anime, then we will watch the anime together. When the first episode was broadcast, he was watching the work in the same room as Yoshino, and at that time Yoshino took several pictures of the TV program preview in the newspaper (laughs).
Aoyama: Among the many programs in the schedule, I saw "WakeUp, Girls! I was so grateful that I left a lot of photos of shock and fingers fluttering (laughs).
Yoshioka: We all come from different parts of the country, and after the anime aired, when I went to various places, strangers would come and ask, "Are you Miss Yoshioka?" "I feel like I've become a celebrity!
Nagano: I'm a Sendai native, and I live there now, and WakeUp, Girls! is a work set in Sendai, so it is full of work atmosphere throughout the city. My friends who didn't watch much anime before told me, "I am very happy that there are many familiar scenery in the work." Even if you walk down the street, you can often see some students dressed up discussing "WakeUp, Girls!" Huh? "I feel like this work permeates every aspect of the city.
Everyone: Really!? Excellent!
Nagano: I'm really happy to be able to experience the popularity of this work in the local area!
──How did you feel when you stood in front of the fans at the stage thank-you party and handshake party?
Takagi: Everyone is very gentle, but I was really surprised that at a stage appreciation party the other day, it was snowing heavily, but there were people who came on foot from far away.
Aoyama: At the event to give chocolates to everyone, some people received chocolates from friends who didn't come.
Yoshioka: There are also people who say that through "WakeUp, Girls! I was amazed that I became good friends with other people!
── If I'm not mistaken, Ms. Nagano doesn't like chocolate, does she? (laughs)
Nagano: Why do you know this? Yes. But if it's chocolate made with everyone's heart, then no problem! And white chocolate is no problem.
Yoshioka: You're talking to yourself!
- I see. When it comes to snacks, Miss Yamashita must be very good at making apple pie.
Aoyama: You know that the Tao is really detailed, and it deserves to be a professional (laughs).
Yamashita: Personally, that kind of thing is definitely an apple pie...... But the apple pie I make is made by adding apples to the self-rising powder. So the other members said that this thing is not a "pie", it is a cake at all~
Yoshioka: It doesn't matter if it's apple pie or not, it's just delicious.
Yamashita: But I still think it's apple pie!
Everyone: You still think so!?
Yamashita: Yes!
── I talked about the dormitory, but did WUG practice it?
Yoshioka: We all come from different places, so we gather together during long vacations. It takes about a week to ten days. This is also the nature of the dormitory. A total of 3 times?
Okuno: yes, three times.
Yoshioka: It started with running, followed by voice actor training, dance lessons, and singing lessons. It was already midnight when we ate and went back...... Let's (laughs). Every day is full of wonders.
Aoyama: On weekends, when we get together, we allocate rooms according to the number of 2 people, 2 people, and 3 people.
──It's really hard to practice dance.
Okuno: Hehe. The practice started around March last year.
Tanaka: The TV anime song is December?
Yoshioka: In the theatrical version, "Cheer Up! was last summer, and in December ("7GirlsWar", "Aoba"). We also filmed the music video before the year-end event, and it was about two weeks before the shoot that we mastered all the dance moves.
Tanaka: It's hard work, but "Word Leaf Aoba" is very calm and good.
── Did you assign responsibilities during such exercises and on stage? In the work, I feel that the real dream is C, and Jia Nai is the leader.
Aoyama: It's completely different! Antithesis!
Tanaka: Ahaha (laughs).
Yoshioka: Is it okay to say "opposite"? (laughs)
Aoyama: C (Yoshioka) looks like C. In the work, didn't Jia Nai say to Lan Li, "You're not doing the right thing here"? But in reality, WUG is the opposite! 《WakeUp,Girls! The character who is not good at dancing in the movie, but her voice actor is the one who dances the best in reality. Therefore, when I said to Lan Li during the recording, "This is not right", it actually made people feel laughing and crying.
Yamashita: I can't get emotionally involved at all (laughs).
Aoyama: Because I can't invest in my feelings, the dubbing is still quite hard. Yoshino Aoyama, Kaya Okuno, and Mikai Tanaka have no experience in dancing, so it's still quite difficult. I just "played" ballet when I was in elementary school!
Takagi: I've just "played"!
-- It's not the same as ballet (laughs).
Nagano: But after a week, almost all of them behaved perfectly. After that, it's time for the action to be corrected.
Yoshioka: Everyone is jumping into the dance moves very quickly.
Aoyama: At first, I couldn't put my movements into it, and I cried a lot.
Takagi: I'm crying.
── Are there any people who can inspire you at the scene?
Okuno: Isn't it Airi?
Yoshioka: The one who pays the most attention to us in dance is Airi.
Okuno: Also, when I held a summary meeting after the event, Airi summed up a lot of things.
Nagano: Thank you (laughs).
── So are there any fools and spit outs?
Takagi: I think Nanami is playing dumb!
Yoshioka: She's playing dumb!
Takagi: Every time everyone laughed, she shouted "......!" as if she was slow! Yes......! (laughs).
Yamashita: And Nanami takes a while to calm down every time! It seems that everything has to be imagined in your mind first, and then you laugh when you think about it, so that it is over.
Nagano: Everyone can play stupid or complain, but Mo Yu should be a complaining officer. It's like the "unrealistic Kansai dialect" I just said.
Yoshioka: "It's for the gods!" (Translation: that is, in Mandarin, "for the 龗what", here "for the Shenma" is used to distinguish the Kansai dialect)...... Isn't it a very common phrase?
Everyone: Huh?
Yoshioka: I think I've done something rude.
Everyone (laughs).
- So, on February 26th, "7GirlsWar" and "Aoba Yamaba" were released. How are you feeling right now?
Nagano: When I got my reservation ticket, I looked at the words that read "WakeUp, Girls!" There was a feeling of hard work......
Yamashita: I'm so happy myself, and my relatives are all in high spirits, and even my mom says that she has booked a CD too! (laughs)
Aoyama: I'm looking forward to doing at ORICON...... Ahem.
Yoshioka: Hey! Leave these things alone. In other words, the song "7GirlsWar" reflects the personality of each character, and it is very popular.
Nagano: I think it's a song that will make everyone excited.
- Everyone sang and danced, and they had to work together so seamlessly that they couldn't breathe. It's hard work, isn't it?
Yoshioka: If the audience could dance together......
Aoyama: We'll be able to breathe (laughs).
-- During the interlude of the song, everyone performed their own stunts. Was that your own idea?
Yoshioka: We came up with the idea on our own.
Nagano: Then the teacher who taught us the dance combined these stunts.
Aoyama: Xiangye...... (laughs)
Okuno: In the initial setting, I realized that everyone had a specialty, but I couldn't do it...... Then I said with a bitter face, "I don't know anything!" But they said, "Isn't Shanye able to bend the joints of her thumb?" And then I did my fingering there (laughs).
- Spins, rollovers, leg raises, and finger art (laughs).
Yoshioka: I don't think anyone would be able to understand it if we didn't emphasize it (laughs).
Okuno: ...... It's a shame...... (laughs).
Nagano: Well, it's time to talk about "Word Leaf Aoba".
Yoshioka: This is the first song with a narrative tune for us, and the style is slow and calm. At first, we didn't know how to sing it.
Tanaka: It was very difficult because we were asked to sing as characters.
Takagi: The lyrics are really good, and we sang them with a lot of emotion, and it was a great feeling when it was done.
── This song has a chorus style, so isn't that the time to make the most of Miss Aoyama's expertise?
Aoyama: Actually, I was a little unwell when I was recording, and I collapsed while singing. Airi rushed to where I was standing to help. So when I recorded the songs, I did it with everyone's help...... (slightly low)
Tanaka: But when he sings live on stage, Yoshino is the best performer...... Everyone sings: ?で~き~な~い (lyrics)
Tanaka: Yoshino's voice is the loudest!
Aoyama: I'm very good at using a fake voice! I used to sing in a fake voice, but being told to sing the song in the original voice also annoyed me a bit. Recently, I finally got the hang of it and stabilized.
- The song "Words and Leaves" is very clear. Miss Yoshioka and Miss Aoyama both have quite a bright solo part in it. Don't you feel nervous on stage?
Aoyama: Nervous......
Yoshioka: I'm almost only practicing the solo part (laughs).
Aoyama: There was a chorus solo in "7GirlsWar", but I didn't feel nervous about it. My heart always beats fast before a stage performance...... Call. However, the experience gained through practice gave me the confidence to think, "There is no choice but to appear now." (Righteous Ling Ran)
Takagi: Then, what about the chorus of "Aoba......
Everyone: Here we go!
-- I'm about to ask right now (laughs).
Takagi: I actually let me sing "Sunway: Ignite!" this time! Chaos! (Let's sneak!) Nayako" theme song)! I've always liked this song and I often sing it at karaoke. I didn't expect to be able to make me sing this song when the CD was released! Although I was very scared, I was very excited to record!
- Not to mention the work itself, I think it's really innovative to be able to add songs from other works to your debut single.
Takagi: That's right! When I heard the news, I was shocked and thought, "Hey! May I?? "And I also added my own lines to the song, and it was set to the atmosphere of Okamoto-chan singing in a maid café!
──《WakeUp,Girls! The music video is really outstanding. Is there anything interesting that you can tell us about the photo shoot?
Everyone: Wow! Thank you!
Yoshioka: The MV was filmed in late December.
Aoyama: At Christmas time.
Yoshioka: It's just a few days of Christmas. So it was snowing and raining again.
Nagano: Everyone went to Sendai to shoot. That's why I think the MV also shows the charm of Sendai to the fullest.
Yoshioka: There are also a lot of famous spots in Sendai that appear in 7GirlsWar, and we shuttle between them. "Words and Leaves" was filmed in Sendai Hikari no Pageant.
Aoyama: Since "Words and Leaves" was shot at one time, there was no camera switching.
── It must have been difficult to capture such complex movements. So how many times have you NG in total?
Everyone: three times...... Left and right?
Takagi: The day before the shooting, we met and discussed how to get the camera to capture the footage, and then we practiced hard.
-- The shot of walking backwards is very difficult.
Yoshioka: I'm singing and walking backwards, and then I'm going to pass between Nanami and Mikai. But there's no marking.
Nagano: Because there is dirt under your feet, if you mark it, it will be caught by the camera.
Yoshioka: So I had to use the flower bed in front of me as a benchmark, and I went straight back with my own feelings.
Tanaka: That part was the most stressful!
Yoshioka: I'm nervous too. The first time I shot it, I still bumped into someone. That's bad.
──It's not easy to be a photographer.
Yoshioka: The photographer is carrying a few kilograms of equipment.
Tanaka: That camera is amazing, isn't it? When you put this camera on the back, the picture pops up all at once!
Aoyama: We used to watch the MV and shout "It's so cute and cute", but in fact, if it wasn't for the support of so many people, we wouldn't have been able to shoot it...... Very impressed. in every sense.
Takagi: I started filming early in the morning, and the staff was very cold.
──Are all the clothes in "Whispering Leaves and Aoba" your own?
Yoshioka: Basically. The white dress that Nanami was wearing and the dress that Shanya wore were prepared by Mimi.
Tanaka: That's right. I discussed it with my parents, but we had a long argument about which one Nanami and Shanya should wear. But the clothes of the last two of them are very suitable, I think it's great.
Yoshioka: The subtitles should have been filled with the words "Cooperation: Mimi's Mother".
──I heard that Okuno's mother really helped.
Okuno: Ah, my mother made a headband for everyone. I'm wondering if this will be used in TV anime. Ah, I didn't appear in the TV anime...... No, Kikuma-chan's mom made something, but according to Ms. Wakuda (script), it seems that there will be corresponding accessories as well.
Everyone: Hey~.
Yoshioka: I'm going to make it around.
Aoyama: If female WUG fans could wear that kind of jewelry, I would be happy too. It's so nice~
Okuno: Men can wear these headbands on their scarves.
Nagano: It's a trendy feeling!
── How did you feel when you first wore the costume of "7GirlsWar"?
Everyone: Very impressed!
Yoshioka: The first thing we saw was "WakeUp, Girls!" with a letter from Mobage's gloops. Stage Angel card. On it, the characters wore "WakeUp, Girls!" Clothing.
Everyone: It's so cute~!
Takagi: In the past, everyone was wearing different school uniforms, but when I saw "WakeUp, Girls!" The costumes have a sense of unity, and they are cute.
──Whether it's a school uniform or a real school uniform, it's perfect for you.
Nagano: Oh! Is someone like me a good fit?
Okuno: Am I a good fit?
──It's a good fit!
Nagano: Great! At first, I always wore a normal school uniform, and I didn't pay much attention to it. But sure enough, wearing a uniform is even more enjoyable.
──In the middle of the work, WUG will play against the top idol group "I-1club" voiced by Eimiri Garten, Kaori Fukuhara, Yuka Otsubo, and other voice actors. How do you feel about this?
Yoshioka: When I met Yuka Otsubo at the dubbing scene, there was an atmosphere of friction between the two of them! It's like Shiho and the feeling of a real dream. Personally, I feel that this is because I am aware of each other's voice roles, and it is a valuable experience for a new voice actor like me.
- If someone refuses to save face, how will Miss Yoshioka fight back?
Yoshioka: I don't think Mamu hates Shiho very much, and he doesn't put on an ugly face. So when I saw Miss Otsubo, I was a little surprised for a moment, but I quickly greeted her and said "good morning" (laughs). And then Miss Otsubo also greeted me. That's how they communicate with each other.
Nagano: In Shinagawa in April, we were going to hold an event on the same day as them. They are also our predecessors in terms of their identity as "I-1club" in the film. However, I always feel that "I-1club" is a very organized group, and it feels so scary.
Yoshioka: No rest! Don't complain! Don't think!
Nagano: Of course, I had a scary impression, but several of the voice actors were very gentle in the dubbing scene, and sometimes they even came to guide us. In other words, these are some seniors who are very gentle in the dubbing scene, but very scary in the work.
──When you first came to the dubbing scene, you must have learned valuable acting experience from Hoko Hidaka (president) and Shintaro Asanuma (Matsuda's agent).
Yoshioka: Ms. Hidaka taught us how to put our voice into the microphone and showed us how to read the script book, how to memorize the lines on it, and so on.
Aoyama: When I'm helpless, I watch how Ms. Hidaka and the other seniors behave, and then I feel like my body is supported by them.
──Unlike the adults in the work, these seniors are very reliable!
Yoshioka: Mr. Asunuma and Mr. Matsuda are not the same person at all!
Aoyama: Mr. Matsuda is not very reliable...... Mr. Asanuma taught us a lot gently.
Takagi: If there is anything we care about, our seniors will tell us, it's really rare!
Yamashita: It also made the atmosphere of the dubbing scene lively......
Yoshioka: Sometimes, even if we don't ask questions, they take the initiative to talk to us.
- What were you talking about in the studio?
Takagi: People often use dialects. I'm from Chiba, just like Miss Fukuhara and Miss Otsubo. That's why we speak in the Chiba dialect. And Shanye also used dialects.
Okuno: Because Mr. Asanuma and I are both from Iwate Prefecture.
Nagano: I'm from Sendai, so I use the Tohoku dialect to liven up the atmosphere!
──Are you all used to voice acting?
Nagano: I'm used to it. I was a little confused about which microphone to use during the initial audition, so it took me a while to do this, but now my body is more relaxed.
Yoshioka: Each of us experienced our own "personal albums" in our works, and as a result, we became more cheerful.
──I have to say that the "meow good times" of the real wave in the third episode is impressive. I subconsciously say this word when I eat something delicious now.
Everyone: That's bad enough (laughs).
Tanaka: Thank you!
Yoshioka: Has the time come for Minami?
Aoyama: Aiming for the Anime Buzzword Award?
Yoshioka: No, the catchphrase should be "Isn't this Shimada Mamume!" ”
Tanaka: Bow down!
Yoshioka: Of course, I didn't say this line, but it was a line from Mr. Shimono Hiroshi (Kunitra Ota).
Aoyama: Mimi's acting skills when she was eating were very good, and the seniors at the dubbing scene praised her.
Tanaka: Being praised by them really made me feel like I had gone to the sky. My heart is as sweet as honey.
-- WUG will hold an event in April, and a concert tour is expected in the summer. Please express your ambitions.
Aoyama: The TV anime will be broadcast in March, but WUG's activities are still going on, and the WUG era will not end in the future, so we will come with a lot of bombs!
Everyone: Bombs? Bomb? (Loud)
Aoyama: I—I want to burst out with explosive energy!
Nagano: Also, we haven't held a concert in Sendai yet. However, the streets of Sendai are very lively, and I would like to have the opportunity to liven up the atmosphere with the concert. (*It has been confirmed that it will be performed in Sendai.)
── It's not just Sendai's concert, but everyone can let their dreams fly in 47 prefectures.
Yoshioka: Touch the love plan!
Aoyama: I really want to go to your hometown.
Yoshioka: Speaking of which, the official website was taken over by "I1club" a while ago.
Nagano: It's been a while since Lanzato disappeared! I hadn't been told about this in advance before, and when I ran to the website to see it, I was shocked. Thinking about it, is it just like that?
Everyone: It won't disappear~!
Yoshioka: We will continue to work hard to let more people know about WUG!
-- Miss Okuno hasn't spoken yet, so if you can, please tell us about your hopes for the concert.
Okuno: Huh? Ah, yes! We had a small performance at the WonderFestival before, and then we had a wrap-up session. We discuss where the performance is not good, and then we practice. Make up for some deficiencies. I hope to bring you a wonderful concert!
Everyone: Oh!
- I remember that during the year-end event, Ms. Okuno was not very active in the conversation session...... You seem to be very depressed, are you not good at it?
Okuno: That's right~! I always don't know what to say...... I'll try. But that's not the case, I'm usually very good at the mountains! It really is!
Aoyama: Xiangye's topic is very interesting.
Nagano: At Roppongi's late-night stage thank-you party, Kaya said a lot like a blooming flower.
Okuno: yes. If you want me to say anything, I can say it!
Yoshioka: Then you just say it (laughs).
Okuno: There are 7 people together, and it feels hard to interject~ If you want to say something, you can only think about the topic desperately.
Nagano: That's how people from Tohoku think too much.
Okuno: Yes! That's what I'm facing.
Yoshioka: We'll support you too, so come on!
──I look forward to the day when Miss Okuno wakes up in conversation! Finally, I would like to ask you what kind of development will WUG have in the future, and what are your ambitions and aspirations?
Aoyama: (whispering) According to the director's idea, WUG wants to be red and white~. The scale of our concert will gradually increase, and I hope to become a group that meets everyone's expectations and fills everyone's dreams.
Takagi: I hope that you will support both the concert in the anime and our concert in reality. And we will continue to work hard as a voice actor and bring you even better performances.
Yamashita: I think there will be opportunities to hold concerts on a big stage in the future, and in order to live up to the grandeur of the stage, we will continue to grow as a person and as a voice actor, and we will strive to conquer everyone with our charm.
Nagano: Even if the anime is over, I hope to be able to start with "WakeUp, Girls!" The identity continues to exist and continue to carry out activities. I hope to make the anime hot and at the same time bring the atmosphere of Sendai to life. And we'll grow with it.
Okuno: I want people to go beyond "WakeUp, Girls!" "This group can also succeed as a voice actor and actor as an individual. After many years, everyone will once again be "WakeUp, Girls!" "When you get together, you can feel that each other is already very powerful. That's what I would like to describe in my mind: "WakeUp, Girls!" ”
