Chapter 12: Potions Lesson

Potions class is held in an underground classroom. It's darker than the main castle building above. Along the walls are glass jars soaked in a variety of taxidermy.

Snape, like Flitwick, picked up the roster as soon as class started, and when Augustus' name was called, Snape apparently paused. As the head of Slytherin, Snape naturally knows the tradition of Slytherin selecting hidden prefects, and the various performances of this Augustus have long been passed on to his ears through many people's descriptions, and for such an excellent Slytherin freshman, Snape's always rigid face has softened a little.

"Oh yes" Snape's volume suddenly changed when Harry's name was called, "Harry Potter, this is our new arrival—the biggest name." Augustus was a little surprised, and among the professors who had always liked Potter suddenly appeared a professor with such obvious disdain for Harry, yes, such obvious sarcasm, it was obvious that everyone had heard it, and Draco Malfoy and his friends Crabbe and Goyle were laughing with their hands over their mouths.

Snape finished the roll call, and then looked up at the class, and in his dark eyes, indifferent and empty, you thought of two dark tunnels. "You've come here to learn the exact science and rigor of this potion." He spoke, almost a little louder than a whisper, but everyone could hear every word he said. Like Professor McGonagall, Professor Snape has the deterrent power to keep the classroom in order effortlessly. "Since there is no stupid waving of a wand here, many of you will not believe that it is magic. I don't expect you to really comprehend the beauty of the smoky cauldron that simmers and wafts its fragrance, you don't really understand the liquid that flows into people's veins, the thrilling, disorienting magic that I can teach you how to increase your prestige, brew glory, and even stop death—but one thing must be that you are not the kind of fools and fools I often encounter. ”

As a demigod archmage who has experienced countless ups and downs, Snape's demagogic words actually sounded very nourishing to Augustus, and unlike those students who were encouraged by Snape, Augustus had long been accustomed to seeing the lives and deaths of countless people, and for him, only the pursuit of the true meaning and essence of magic was the only thing he could not let go. What's more, to prevent death? As one of the most terrifying laws of nature, even if he fully stepped into the divine realm, Augustus did not dare to say that he could resist death.

After his short opening remarks, the class fell silent. As if intrigued by the demagogic words, Harry and Ron raised their eyebrows and exchanged glances. Hermione Granger almost moved to the edge of her chair and leaned forward, seemingly eager to prove that she wasn't a fool.

"Potter!" Snape suddenly said, "What do I get if I add daffodil root powder to wormwood infusion?"

"I don't know what to say, sir." Harry said.

Snape pursed his lips disdainfully.

"Tsk, tsk - it seems that fame doesn't mean everything."

Snape deliberately ignored Hermione's raised arm.

"Let's try again. Potter, if I asked you to find me a bezoar, where would you find it?" Harry glanced around with some despair, except for Hermione's hands still raised high, most of the Gryffindor students had expressions of helplessness, of course, the Slytherin students were mostly watching jokes, and suddenly Augustus who seemed to be a little impatient appeared in Harry's sight, inexplicably thinking of the scene when facing Malfoy on the train, Harry looked at Augustus with a pleading look.

In fact, Augustus was already a little upset when Snape began to ask Harry a second question, and he had come here to absorb the essence of various magical theories, rather than wasting time listening to a professor who kept asking his students questions that he didn't understand.

"Professor Snape, since Harry doesn't know what to do, why don't you ask the others? For example, Miss Granger. Or I can figure it out. Augustus looked at Snape and said calmly.

In the silence of the class, Augustus's signature voice suddenly sounded, and everyone looked at Augustus in disbelief after hearing the content clearly, and it was really courageous to question him in Snape's class. The eyes of many Slytherin students were also puzzled, as if they did not understand why Augustus had to solve the siege for a Gryffindor student.

There seemed to be a flash of anger in the depths of Snape's eyes, but it was fleeting, followed by a thoughtful and puzzled expression, and looking at Augustus, who was still calm, Snape's face gradually returned to calm.

"Very well, Mr. Augustus, now you will answer these two questions." Snape's somewhat flat voice sounded like it contained a hint of chill, and the already gloomy classroom seemed to be a little colder.

Augustus looked at Snape with a nonchalant expression, and naturally gave the answer. Snape nodded, and instead of asking any more questions as before, he turned and walked back to the lectern. Seeing that the matter was revealed in this way, everyone was inexplicably moved, and they wondered whether they admired Augustus's courage or were surprised by Professor Snape's unusualness. Of course, for Harry, it was natural that Augustus had already made two consecutive clearances.

Potions classes continued, but the Gryffindor students did not improve. Snape divided them into pairs and instructed them to mix a simple potion for scabies. In a group with Augustus is Mo Yan, who was defeated by Augustus just after the battle of the hidden prefect, and Mo Yan is naturally very happy to be lucky enough to be in a group with Augustus. In fact, almost everyone among the many new Slytherin freshmen today has an inexplicable admiration for Augustus.

Just as Augustus was engrossed in the preparation of various subtle materials, Neville somehow burned Seamus's hot pot into a crooked piece, and the potion in the pot suddenly splashed on the stone floor, the amount of potion was very large, and some students next to him who had no time to dodge were instantly burned out of their shoes, looking at the potion that was about to fill the classroom, most of the students began to stand on their stools to avoid this unwarranted disaster.

Augustus frowned, took out his silver wand and pointed it to the ground, and a spell similar to a clean-up had an effect, and the potion on the ground disappeared in an instant.

Snape appreciatively added ten points to Augustus, and roared at Neville, who was already sobbing and crying, "Idiot! I guess you probably put the porcupine thorns in without putting the pot off the heat, didn't you! Looking at the many scabies that had popped up on Neville's nose, Snape snapped at Seamus with some disgust, "Send him to the hospital room above." ”

Potions class ended in a bit of a farce, with the students streaming down the classroom steps in twos and threes, Hermione following Ron and Harry, watching Augustus as calm as ever, crowded among the Slytherin students. "I'll just say that even if he gets into Slytherin, Augustus can't become like those Slytherins." Hermione smirked at Ron and Harry.

Ron snorted indistinctly, and Harry was in a trance, indeed, the white-robed young man on the train was still the same as before, and had never changed.
