Interview with Xuyuan Xuan: I am a child cultivated by Gongkou games!

So far, creator Gen Xubuchi has brought us countless novels, animations, tokusatsu dramas, and kokou games. His activism in many fields has also made the "warrior of love" one of the most famous scriptwriters in recent years. Recently, he challenged the full 3D theatrical animation of "Paradise Chase". For this reason, some Japanese media conducted an exclusive interview with him, from which they learned about Lao Xu's future prospects.

■The world of the void can still exist even in the entertainment works of the royal road

Q: Mr. Xuyuan has previously created stories in a variety of fields such as games, novels, animations, and live-action dramas, so what do you think is the most suitable genre for you?

Abyss: No matter what kind of work site you are in, it is fun and hard work at the same time, so I have to decide the best type...... It's so hard. However, animation is a world that is constantly changing, and compared to manga and novels, some new technologies are being introduced in this field. At the same time, these new technological changes often create new surprises, so I think the animation industry is a good place to survive for a long time. I haven't been able to fully explore the possibilities of animation yet, and the best example of this mood is Paradise Chase.

Q: However, the plot of "Paradise Chase" is very royal and not quite in line with Mr. Xubuchi's style, and for those who are looking forward to seeing a completely "melancholy" plot like "Madoka Magical Girl" and "Madoka Magi☆ Magic", to be honest, there will be a feeling of empty joy!

Abyss: Hey, is that so? But at the end of the day, I don't spend all my days creating works that have a melancholy unfolding and heavy setting (laughs). In addition, this work is a project launched by Toei Animation to create a film division centered on the latest 3DCG, and compared to the box office, they actually pay more attention to technical issues, which can be regarded as an experimental work.

Therefore, if I was too entangled in the script, it might lead to a decrease in the impact of the 3D image itself, so I deliberately used a very straightforward plot from the beginning that allowed the audience to focus on the image.

Q: It turns out that Mr. Xuyuan still thinks so deeply. Sorry for saying such a casual thing!

Xuyuan: But the skeleton of the story and the plot are still very much to my taste. If you just look at this work, you might think it's HAPPYEND, but if you think about it carefully, you'll find that it's a pretty tragic story. I had a friend who went to a preview screening and even said, "It's a script that is a void" (laughs). Indeed, for an ending, everyone may feel that it is a good ending or a bad ending. Although I said that this is a very direct story, it is rare for everyone to spend 2 hours in the cinema with us, so it is too lonely if everyone forgets the plot when they go out. So I hope this work can leave room for everyone to think.

Q: The project for "Paradise Chase" started about five years ago, so it seems that it was earlier than the time when "Kamen Rider Armor" was written.

Abyss: Yes. In the period from the start of "Paradise Chase" five years ago to today, there have been other all-CG anime releases in Japan, so we don't have to make any refreshing attempts today. But if you're asking, "Is it a flaw to spend five years making a zuò work?" "Actually, that's not the case, because we encountered a leap forward in 3D technology during the production process, which made the image of this work so beautiful. Thinking about this, it is better to say that it is a "surprising miscalculation" for the work.

■I have a strong sense of gratitude to the Gongkou game industry

Q: Although it was broadcast before "Paradise Chase", "Kamen Rider Armor", which was scripted a little later than this work, has already reached its finale at the end of September this year. This work is also mixed.

Abyss: I feel relieved right now. Although it ended in the original framework, looking back now, it feels like a miracle that this year has passed. The live-action shooting scene of the special drama is completely different, and I always feel the impact of different cultures.

After all, animation is to create a good script first, and then to draw the order of the storyboard. And tokusatsu dramas can't take such a route.

Q: Completely different ways of creating?

Abyss: That's right. Often, at some point, I would suddenly ask me to change my work, and I couldn't help but shout, "Do you really want to do this!?" "In that sense, I feel like I've been busy all year long. So I was relieved to be able to end it in the same way as I originally thought.

Q: Speaking of women, does Mr. Xuyuan prefer two-dimensional or three-dimensional?

Xuyuan: In my mind, these are two completely different existences. Three-dimensional words can make people feel the inner charm, and two-dimensional is the charm of the author's mind. Therefore, the kind of girl illustrations that are done in one go often make me feel the creator's intentions, so I am particularly touched.

Q: So, Mr. Xuyuan has made solid achievements in both animation and live-action dramas, what kind of stage do you want to challenge next?

Abyss: Through the experience of Guò Armor, I also got some ideas for the live-action version, so I hope to continue to challenge it. However, after all, it was the game industry and the animation industry that trained me, so I always thought that this was my home field.

Q: I'm afraid that those long-time fans of Mr. Xuyuan would like you to release a new Gongkou game. But it seems that everyone around you will stop it, right?

Abyss: No one is stopping me, but if I want to do it next time, I'll have to change my vest. If I were to write the script of the game in the name of Xuan Xubuchi right now, the young audience of the Armored Warriors would probably be devastated, and my conscience would hurt (laughs).

However, in another 15 years, if I create a new Gongkou game in the name of Xuan Xuyuan, then the children who watch Kaibu will have already grown up, and if they don't get it, they will sigh, "Didn't this person write Kamen Rider scripts before?" "Then we started playing. That's fine (laughs).

Q: Fans of the Void Abyss who have come from the era of Gongkou games, I'm afraid you won't want you to hide those past experiences, right?

Xuyuan: Because of the Gongkou game, I am the person I am now, so I won't hide it. For the works of that period, sometimes I had to compromise on the idea of making a big man, but from my personal point of view, I would like to be able to say that I am a master of the game. Many people think that the people who can create gongkou games are those dead houses that have been poisoned by the otaku culture, but such dead houses can now face any industry and stand tall. Even in the light of those who have been kind to me before, I must say these things. Rather, if I can get more people interested in Gongkou games and animation because of my relationship, then it will be my gratitude. Therefore, if there are more opportunities to present my ideas to the media, I will actively take on the challenge.

Q: So, maybe you'll get screenwriting invitations for morning dramas and Monday 9pm (prime time) in the future!?

Xuyuan: Heck, if I were asked to write that kind of refreshing love TV series, then I think there are many more suitable candidates than me, so I guess I will refuse. But if there is a producer with that particular preference, he told me, "I just want to see a terrible Monday 9 p.m. TV series written by a dead house like you!" Then I might say, "Please let me try."

Q: A man trained in the game industry creates a drama that will be held at 9 o'clock on Mondays...... It's so much to watch!
