I love Long Aotian the most! Interview with rookie voice actress Shiori Izawa

Every year, a large number of newcomers emerge in the Japanese voice actor industry, and for this reason, the Japanese media specially produced a program called "New Voice Actor Illustrated Guide". The show interviews and reports on some of the most promising rookie voice actors, to understand the behind-the-scenes stories of their entry into the industry, and their prospects for the future. In the latest issue of the "Rookie Voice Actor Guide", we will introduce Shiori Izawa, who has performed well in works such as "The Witch's Mission" (Kuraishi Dandelion Service) and "Ordinary High School Girls Want to Be Local Idols" (Noda Glass Service).

Q: What was the reason for Ms. Izawa to become a voice actress?

Izawa: At first, I just participated in theater. When I was in the third grade of elementary school, I watched the performance of the drama club and was very moved: "They are all children like me, but they are so powerful!" "That's the opportunity. Later, I joined the drama club until I graduated from elementary school. Originally, I wanted to continue when I was in junior high school, but there was no drama club in this school, so I was disappointed and thought, "How do you do it~" (laughs) In addition, I also like to draw, and I used to think that one day I might be able to participate in the production of large-scale props in drama, so I joined the art department. When I was choosing a high school, I deliberately looked for a school with a drama club, but when I enrolled, I found that there were only three members. If there were only three people, it would be different from what I imagined in the theater club (laughs). Ah, it seems that the preface is too long (laughs).

Q: No, no. Three people is too few.

Izawa: Just as I was thinking about what to do, I learned that one of the activities of the Broadcasting Department included radio dramas and readings. I fell in love with anime when I was in junior high school, and I learned about the voice actor profession, and I became interested in it. So I wondered if I would be able to ...... if I joined this club, and I joined the ministry. From that time on, I wanted to perform with my own voice.

Q: I see. So although they are all acting, what is the difference between voice actors and acting?

Izawa: If you want to do it, there's nothing you can't do. Because there are always certain restrictions on performances that require showing up like dramas. I'm also a big fan of boy characters, so I might be able to achieve that if I perform with my voice. In addition, I also have a strong "desire to transform", longing for those who have a certain distance from me.

Q: As a voice actor, you also appeared in some radio dramas in the beginning.

Izawa: That's right. After another 2 years of dubbing some radio dramas, I started appearing in anime. I always thought about "I want to play, I want to play", but I was very scared and thought it would be better not to play. In short, this unbelievably complicated feeling. But what was supposed to come is still coming.

Q: Do you remember anything about the first time you appeared in an anime?

Izawa: It was very incidental that I made my anime debut at the same time in both "Catalogue of Forbidden Books of Magic" and "Hell Girl Sanding". And even the day of the recording is the same day. Recording was from morning to evening, so had to go back and forth. I've never been to an animation studio, so I'm worried about whether I'll be late. As a result, I was panicked since the morning, and the agent also said "you can go alone today". Then I was stupid: what should I do (laughs)? It turned out to be 30 minutes early, and then I was alone at the entrance and in the hallway (laughs). When I was a newcomer, I always struggled with one question: how do I greet people?

Q: Which of your subsequent works impressed you?

Izawa: Midoriko Sono from "The Girl and the Chariot". Director Mizushima said to me, "The role of Sonoko will be handed over to Miss Izawa, so you can perform as you like." "In the past, although I was also said in the industry, "the voice is incredible" and "the voice is very distinctive", but as a newcomer, I basically play a role in a dragon role, and I can't be too eye-catching. So most of the time I hide my voice to perform. And Director Mizushima's words relieved me from my troubles at once. I was happy to think, "I'm finally able to use my voice to voice a character (laughs)!" ”

Q: Is there anything you care about when you perform?

Izawa: Sonoko is a member of the Discipline Committee, and she is a very strict character with others. But since it's going to be dubbed, then I still want her to be a little cuter, so I keep it strict while also incorporating a cute atmosphere.

Q: In addition, Mayumi Yoshino, who you voiced in "SilverSpoon", is also memorable.

Izawa: Mayumi-chan is a character who likes cheese a lot, but I hate it so much (laughs)! The baked cheese is delicious, but it's ...... raw I ate it again after many years, and I still couldn't accept it (laughs). So I imagined cheese as something else delicious when I was dubbing, and then I performed it.

Q: So what exactly is delicious food?

Izawa: My love for food is often complained about as strange. My favorite is the cherry, then the fruit vinegar, and then the yuzu pepper. Well, it looks like it's all seasoning (laughs).

Q: It's true that it's all "food" that I haven't heard of much (laughs). In addition, "SilverSpoon" has a second season, what is the situation in the process of dubbing the sequel?

Izawa: Everyone is like a high school student. There are a lot of people, chattering together. Also, this work has been introduced by many media, so my parents, who don't usually watch much anime, also said to me: "Xiaoshi, did you star in this?" It seems that when they are asked by a neighbor, they answer, "My daughter is voiced in "Silver Key"" (laughs) This makes me very happy.

Q: In addition, the Dandelion Kuraishi you starred in "The Witch's Mission" also has a lot of fans.

Izawa: Originally, I collected the manga of this work, and I am also the one who values dandelions the most. But when I reproduced her voice in my head, I always felt that it was not my own voice. So it's like, "Huh? I was amazed (laughs). Read the manga again and recreate the character with your own voice. There are a lot of small neta in the work, so I keep checking it when I appear in it. At the same time, I also pay more attention to the plot I like, and the plot that I want to be cute.

Q: What kind of plot do you like?

Izawa: In front of the protagonist Tahua Gongjun, he said, "It's a bit of a surprise, you're such a fool." Then he chuckled. I think it's only in this plot that Dandelion has such a frank smile. The eyes narrowed, and it made people feel that it didn't look like a funny work anymore. Since Dandelion is a villain who is liked, most of the time it gives people a feeling of urgency, as if they will say "Hey, talk about you!" at any time! ". That's why I think it's the only one that is particularly cute. I practiced desperately the day before the recording. I use various modes to read the lines, record, re-read, and re-record. Actually, in order to match the other voice actors, my way of speaking is often changed, and I will make a plan for this. I should say that this is the case with any work.

Q: In addition, you played Noda Glass in the new episode "Ordinary High School Girls Want to Be Local Idols" in July, what kind of role is this?

Izawa:I'm an idol in a local city with Mira-chan Ito and Sachika-chan Misawa. And my character is a classmate of Nanako-chan (voiced by Mira Ito). Although Noda-chan always likes to tease Nanako-chan, she is also cheering for her, so I guess she has a good impression. And I also performed while complaining about "how much she likes Nanako" (laughs).

Q: Speaking of which, Ms. Izawa is very fond of anime, so what type of characters do you like?

Izawa: I'm a "protagonist supremacist". Like Ryoma-kun in "The Prince of Tennis" and Terecola in "Food Hunter...... In a sense, I like the kind of characters that are strong from the start. It's better to be invincible. It's okay to be defeated occasionally, but I hope they don't suffer setbacks (laughs). Although everyone says that the kind of hero who gets stronger and stronger is better.,But I hope there won't be a wound or anything from the beginning! I don't want to see the protagonist get hurt (laughs).

Q: Your twin sister seems to be very fond of comics, too, so who was the first to get into the pit?

Izawa: Originally, we shared everything we liked, but if a friend at school recommended something, we would go back home and serve a mission.

Q: Does she also watch your work?

Izawa: She watched "The Witch's Mission". Because she wasn't very interested in performances or anything, she couldn't come up with a more professional proposal. However, he still expressed his impressions, saying, "This is a very interesting work. ”

Q: Let me tell you what you think, I think your blog content is also very interesting. And if you like comics, you probably love writing too.

Izawa: There was a moment when I wanted to be a manga artist because of the extension of the second year of junior high disease, but after the second year of the disease worsened, I began to write poetry and verses (laughs). Novels are gone. I've been writing blogs for a long time, and it's a bit slower than Twitter, but it's something I value as well. I want to write something that people can see in a way that makes them feel like something to see.

Q: Ms. Izawa always seems to like to dress up with short hair, when did this start?

Izawa: I had short hair until high school, but after graduating from high school and going to vocational school, I thought it would be better to be a voice actor. I raised my hair for a while, but after becoming a voice actor for 2 years, I simply went back to short hairstyle. Voice actors rarely have short hair, so maybe it's more noticeable. Also, the clothes I usually wear are black and white (laughs).

Q: Today is also white and black (laughs).

Izawa: yes. The dress is cute, but it's a white and black color scheme (laughs). I usually like jeans, but since I had a photo interview today, I'll make it cute.

Q: Do you have any roles you'd like to play in the future?

Izawa: What about that...... Recently, more and more people think my voice is good...... I feel like I've had a lot of cat roles during this time. And in "The Sun That Pierces the Phantom", he is still a talking cat, as for "The Witch's Mission", he is a cat ear family, and in "Hero Bank" is a person wearing cat ears. Judging from this trajectory, it seems that I am constantly evolving (laughs)! I think it's good to make the cat-eared character the best (laughs). It would be nice if everyone thought that "when it comes to cat-eared characters, then I definitely need Ms. Izawa's voice" (laughs).

Q: Will we continue to evolve in the future......

Izawa: Now that my character is close to a human, of course I would like to play some characters without cat ears (laughs). And if you achieve "cat ear dominance", then try dog ears next time (laughs). These are the questions I consider. But as a voice actor, I have a bigger goal: to be able to play a role like Pikachu, which is a household name. That's my goal in my career.

Q: Finally, would you like to say a few words to the readers who read this interview?

Izawa: If you can take a little interest in me, I'm happy. After all, voice actor is a profession that is noticed, and only when others notice it can it have zĂ i value. There are some annoying things, but when I talk about blogs, tweets, and direct meetings, I feel motivated when people say, "I'm looking at you." If you can, please take a look at the work I've starred in, and if you're interested, please leave me a message! I'm really going to do it! Please advise!
