Daisuke Hirakawa talks about "JOJO": I can't stop at all!

The first and second installments of the popular series "JoJo's Bizarre Adventure" TV anime have achieved quite good results, and the third installment of "JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Stardust Fighter" in April this year has been the focus of fans' attention since its launch. Jotaro and Joseph arrived in Egypt, and the long journey finally came to an end. The sequel "JOJO's Bizarre Adventure Stardust Fighter Egypt Arc" will start airing in January next year.

Before the start of the Egypt chapter this time, we had the pleasure of interviewing one of the main voice actors in the show, Daisuke Hirakawa, who plays the role of Noriaki Hanakyoin. As one of the first-line male voice actors in the industry, Daisuke Hirakawa has always had a very good reputation among fans. So what exactly does "JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Stardust Fighter" have for him? What do you think about the role of Hanakyoin Noriaki? Let's get straight to the point!

โ– I started reading the original work before recording, and I couldn't stop at all on the way

- Hello Daisuke Hirakawa, I heard that you had never been exposed to the "JoJo's Bizarre Adventure" series before playing Noriaki Hanakyoin, so what was your impression of this work?

Daisuke Hirakawa: Because "JoJo's Bizarre Adventure" has been serialized since I was a student, I often hear the name of the work. But basically not read. I also skipped this work when I read "Weekly Shonen Jump". Occasionally, I always feel that the art style is very curious, and for me when I was a child at the time, "JoJo's Bizarre Adventure" always had a terrifying, terrifying feeling. If you want to be more specific, it is a relatively common impression of youth cartoons that punish rape and eliminate evil. At that time, I felt that this kind of manga was too early for me, and it was difficult to understand it from the time I started reading it on the way.

INTERVIEWER On the contrary, is there anyone in the cast of JOJO's Bizarre Adventure Stardust Fighter who has been a big fan of the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure series since the beginning?

Daisuke Hirakawa: Daisuke Ono (Jotaro Kujo) and Kenta Miyake (Muhammad Abdel). ACCORDING TO BOTH OF THEM, JOJO'S BIZARRE ADVENTURE WAS PREVIOUSLY A RELATIVELY NICHE UNDERGROUND WORK. There is often hesitation to declare that you are a "JOJO fan" in public. When I get confused about dubbing, I look at the expressions of both of them, and if these two JOJO fans snicker at me, then there must be nothing wrong with my dubbing. (laughs)

INTERVIEWER Did you read the original manga before the recording this time?

Daisuke Hirakawa: I read it. After deciding to dub Noriaki Hanakyoin, the first meeting of the main voice actors was in the period before the official recording, in order to record some commentary for the event. At that time, Daisuke Ono gave me the full volume set of the third part of the original work as a gift. "Don't say anything, read it," were his exact words when he sent it to me. Actually, at that time, I was going to buy it out of my own pocket, after all, I had to work dubbing, so I was really grateful to Daisuke Ono.

INTERVIEWER Do you have any thanks after reading it?

Daisuke Hirakawa: I started reading it just before I was about to record, but after reading it, I couldn't stop reading it at all! Maybe I've accumulated some life experience, which is different from when I was a child, and my feeling about this work is fundamentally different. I even felt deep regret that I didn't read this work in the first place. The characters in "JoJo's Bizarre Adventure" all have their own unique charms, and the third part has an irreplaceable and interesting setting of "stand-in". I was completely captivated by the plot ....... "Fun" alone can't describe how much I love it. At first, I just started reading it with the mentality of pre-recording, but after reading it, it really didn't end, I read the first book and read the second book, and the second book finished the third book...... In the end, it took a lot of time, but I was able to finish the whole volume. "Ah~ It's so much fun!" That's the first thing I thought after reading it. I even forgot that I was going to play one of the main characters in the play, Hanakyo Temple.

โ–  Hanakyoin Noriaki's coldness hides an elusive madness.

- That means you haven't read the original work at the time of the audition, have you?

Daisuke Hirakawa: That's right. During the audition, I said a line from Hanakyoin in the fourth episode - "Do you mean my Emperor's Green...... After tearing you apart, my Emperor's Green will dance and be ecstatic! "(ใ‚ใŸใ—ใฎใ€Œๆณ•็š‡ใฎ็ท‘(ใƒใ‚คใ‚จใƒญใƒ•ใ‚กใƒณใƒˆใ‚ฐใƒชใƒผใƒณ)ใ€ใฏ...... ใฒใใกใŽใ‚‹ใจใ€ใใ‚‹ใ„ใ‚‚ใ ใˆใ‚‹ใฎใ ใ€ๅ–œใณใงใช! Personally, this sentence is also the most impressive sentence in the lines of Huajingyuan. Because it was Hanakyoin who became the partner of Jotaro and his party, and fought for the first time for the partner. In addition, I was very impressed by the fact that I said this sentence during the audition and received a lot of comments from the directors.

INTERVIEWER How did you get into the role of Hanakyoin without reading the original work?

Daisuke Hirakawa: In the beginning, I relied on audio samples. Because I didn't know what kind of character Hanakyoin was, I referred to the information in the sample and interpreted this young character with my own experience. Hanakyoin Noriaki is usually calm and calm, but there is a hint of madness hidden in his heart. This is my understanding of the role of Hanakyoin at the time. After participating in the audition according to this feeling, the economic man of the office that made the recording sample told me to use more exaggerated acting skills. In fact, I have already used more unrestrained exaggerated acting skills, but the economist said that he should be more unrestrained, which has a big deviation from the image of Huajingyuan in my own impression. But even though I thought so in my heart, I still did what the economic man said, reweaving the acting skills of the characters, and expressing them in a more unrestrained form. After that, I was told that I was going to audition for the studio. When I arrived at the recording site, they said to me, "Please try it with an exaggerated feeling like Kabuki." In particular, the part of the line "dancing and ecstatic" vividly expresses the madness, brutality and ruthlessness in the heart of Huajingyuan. I was instructed to dub the line with more explicit acting. To be honest, at the audition, I had a feeling of "Isn't it too much?" It wasn't until I saw the exaggerated acting skills of the voice actors on the recording site that I realized that the most important thing in the dubbing of this work is explosiveness. Of course, the calm and composed part of Hanakyoin must also be expressed. "Oh, that's not an easy job," I still remember at the time (laughs). In retrospect, these exaggerated acting exercises were of great significance at that time (laughs).

The TV anime "Jojo Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Fighter" is adapted from "Stardust Fighter", the third game of the manga "JOJO Bizarre Adventure" written by Hirohiko Araki. The animation continues to be produced by David Production. Different from the previous two works, this work has added the setting of "stand-in", which can be said to be a very exciting chapter in the entire JOJO series. The story tells that in 1984, the wreck of Dior Brandand Jonas Joestar was salvaged. Due to Dio's spell, Holly Joestar is seriously ill and in a coma, and the only way to save her life is to defeat Dio, who is far away in Egypt. In order to save his mother, who is on the verge of dying, Jotaro and Joseph embark on a new journey. The main voice actors of this work are Taketo Koyasuke, Daisuke Ono, Yunsho Ishizuka, Kenta Miyake, Daisuke Hirakawa, and Shifa Komatsu.
