Hideaki Anno got rid of depression and announced that he would direct "Godzilla"

I believe that no anime fan is unfamiliar with the name "Neon Genesis Evangelion", right? And when it comes to "Godzilla", many people will immediately think of that huge super monster. Recently, the two names were linked together by a planning campaign: Hideaki Anno, who previously directed "Neon Genesis Evangelion", will be the general director of the latest "Godzilla" (scheduled to be released in the summer of 2016), and the director is Shinji Higuchi, who was in charge of "Japan Sinks" and "The live-action film Attack on Titan".

As soon as the news came out, heated discussions broke out in both the anime circle and the field of tokusatsu . Many netizens sighed, "It's finally time to wait for this day!" "This is a once-in-a-lifetime challenge," he says, expressing his anticipation. And the two directors of this film have often expressed their love for special effects works such as "Godzilla" and "Ultraman" on different occasions, and it is this enthusiasm that gives them the opportunity to direct this series of works that has been influential for many years.

Faced with this work, Hideaki Anno once refused: "I don't think it's fun." After all, we still have to do EVA." However, "I didn't just want to pass on the good things of the past, but I also had a desire to be reborn as a fantasy science film, and I injected this desire into the Tokusatsu Museum." However, I felt the need to put an end to this idea and my sense of responsibility, so I accepted this work. ”

In addition, Shinji Higuchi also said with a lot of morale, "I have to thank fate for being able to be born in this country where great gods were born, and to be able to contact and inherit the job of Tokusatsu. Next year, I'm going to give you the best and worst nightmares. ”

In fact, the reason why this new work was launched is also because of the well-received Hollywood version of Godzilla last year. At present, Hideaki Anno is in charge of script writing. Although it is not yet known the final setting of Godzilla this time, it should surpass last year's Hollywood version of 108 meters and become the largest Godzilla in history. Filming is scheduled for the fall.

Hideaki Anno was in the spotlight when he was a student at Osaka University of the Arts and exhibited an animation at the SF Tournament, and after co-producing Hayao Miyazaki's "Valley of the Wind", he made his directorial debut with the OVA "Leap to the Peak". In addition, he has also been responsible for some live-action productions. On the other hand, Shinji Higuchi participated in the production of "The Mystery of Sapphire" and "Flying Over the Peak!" ", "Neon Genesis Evangelion" and other works, and debuted as a live-action film director in 2002, and has been friends with Hideaki Anno for many years.

However, many people may be questioning: why did the ruffian throw away the "EVA" at hand and run to make a special film? He himself explained this in his blog. The details are as follows:

What else do we need to make? And why do you want to make a utopian tokusatsu movie?

In December 2012, after the release of EVA:Q, I was devastated. This is also known as a depressive state. This is also a kind of self-inflicted, who told me to destroy my soul again in 6 years to make zuòEVA?

The year 2013 has arrived, and during this year, I have suffered countless mental blows from negative energy. I can't even get a step closer to the studio where I'm in charge, or the studio where I'm burdened with my own work. The relationship with other people and society becomes strange, and it is simply an irrecoverable fatigue and confusion. My whole being was enveloped by an unstable mental state.

During that time, I caused a lot of trouble for a lot of people. However, because of my wife and friends, I was able to continue to live in this world, and I was involved in the dubbing work because of Miyazaki's commission, so I guess I will continue to be involved with the animation production zuò. In addition, since I made a work that made my friends fans at that time, I didn't leave the anime. And my friend's team series, which has been making zuò, is also a kind of spiritual pillar for me as a special effects fan.

In November of the same year. Because of the PV of Shiro Sagi's production, I had the idea of planning an anime short story collection, and I guess I felt the fun of animation again. Once again, I wish I could come back to the animation scene and find a place to stay. Also, the staff and the studio, who were tired from making zuòEVA, felt the need for something new besides EVA. This has been going on at the Japan Animation Exhibition to this day, and I really feel that it is very good.

At the beginning of 2014, I finally returned to the studio. And since then, I have slowly been freed from the state of receiving psychotherapy and returned to animation work. In October of that year, I was given the opportunity to look back on the work I had created since high school, and I was very happy to have such a great opportunity.

And in 2015. In the 20 years since the old version of EVA was broadcast, everyone has been waiting for the new EVA theatrical version for more than 2 years. And now it's finally on its way to completion.

The people around me, and the anime fans, supported me with your enthusiasm for the end of the work. Really, thank you very much. And if you can give me a little more time before the new theatrical version is released, I will feel even happier.

At the same time, I'm now working on turning a fantasy film into reality. The initial opportunity came at the end of January 2013. At that time, someone from Toho came to me and said, "I want you to be the director of the new Godzilla movie." At that time, I was mentally unstable, so I refused and told them: "No." I'm going to do EVA, I can't do it. "But Toho's sincerity and the enthusiasm of my ally, director Shinji Higuchi, touched my heart, and I took over as a director in March of that year.

Not only did I want to pass on the good things of the past, but I also had a desire to be reborn as a fantasy science film, and I injected this desire into the Tokusatsu Museum. However, I felt the need to put an end to this idea and my sense of responsibility, so I accepted this work.

I can only do it now, and because I have to do it now, it's a challenge that comes only once, so I accepted it. Not only EVA, but I felt that if I couldn't just do new work, I wouldn't be able to move forward, so I accepted it.

In May of the same year, I decided on what I wanted to depict and what I wanted to depict in my work. In June, I submitted a proposal to Toho and started some plot creation. In the utopian scientific world of Godzilla, there are not only dreams and wishes, but also realistic exposure, irony and mapping. In today's Japan, these things are also meaningless attempts. To be honest, compared to the world's capital, Japan's production site is not enough in terms of production cost or time, so what can be depicted among the various restrictions on content? I don't know.

It's just that I have the pride to make a movie, and in order to be able to make a slightly more interesting film, I have to devote myself to this work and the new EVA, and that's what I can do now. In the course of the work, although there have been various twists and turns in the direction of the film and the content of the script, it has finally come to the point where it is today.

Whatever a maker writes can be considered a quibble, and since everyone knows that I am faced with infinite goodwill and malice, if you can understand to some extent that I am carrying a fantasy work that represents Japan in this era and country, then the meaning of my humble essay will also be useful.

Finally, thanks to the people around me who support me, as well as the fans and viewers who support the work, I was able to make a video again. Thanks again again.

Thank you.
