Interview with the original author of "Teacher Nietzsche": The opportunity for the birth of the work

When confronted with the guest, "Am I not God!?" A convenience store clerk once replied, "God is dead." And after this sentence was put on Twitter, it quickly sparked countless topics, and the person who posted the tweet also created a comic book based on this sentence. That's right, the name of the work is "Nietzsche Teacher ~ Comprehension Generation Advent Convenience Store" ("ใƒ‹ใƒผใƒใ‚งๅ…ˆ็”Ÿ~ใ‚ณใƒณใƒ“ใƒ‹ใซใ€ใ•ใจใ‚Šไปฃใฎๆ–ฐไบบใŒ่ˆžใ„้™ใ‚ŠใŸ~"). In the story, Nishii Zhizhi, a college student known as Nietzsche's teacher, cleanly dealt with the customers who rushed to the convenience store to complain, and no matter how difficult the object was, he had to raise his hand and surrender in front of him. As a result, many service industry readers are shouting "Yes, yes!" as if they had found a savior. "He said what I wanted to say" "Everyone should be gentle with the clerk!" โ€

This work has won the fourth place in the "Manga Awards 2015 that will be popular next".,So how did the original author Matsuko.ใ€ใƒใ‚ทใƒขใƒˆ who is in charge of the painting create this work? Recently, some Japanese media conducted an exclusive interview with them, as follows!

Q: The inspiration for this work undoubtedly came from a quote on Twitter, can you please tell us how you felt when you first started using Twitter?

Matsukoma: Twitter is a medium that can get feedback from people in seconds, so I think it's very interesting in itself. So from the beginning, I tried to communicate with a variety of people purely from the perspective of interest. And try to see how interesting your writing can be.

Q: So, can you tell us about the moment when you tweeted about "Mr. Nietzsche"?

Matsukoma: In February 2012, a child came in at the convenience store where I worked. This is the prototype of Mr. Nietzsche, and when I tell my friends what happened to him, everyone loves to hear it and laughs so much that they laugh so much. So I thought, "Ah, this is really interesting," so I tried to tweet it, but I didn't expect it to get more than 10,000 retweets. So over the course of the year, I tweeted his story.

Q: Before the manga, Mr. Matsukoma's Twitter had already sparked a lot of buzz. So do the children who are the prototypes of Nietzsche's teacher know about this?

Matsukoma: I didn't let him notice this when I first started tweeting, but it was revealed eventually. So with this in mind, I summarized the previous tweet with togetter. But I didn't expect the summary version to get a better effect, so I felt like "even if I wanted to end it, I couldn't end it...... (laughs)

Q: Because of this experience, we have the comedy we see today. So Miss ใƒใ‚ทใƒขใƒˆ, who is in charge of comic painting, how did she feel when she first saw this aspect of the plot?

ใƒใ‚ทใƒขใƒˆ: Before I got the original manuscript, I didn't actually know what Mr. Matsukoma had tweeted. Later, in order to draw the storyboard, I read all the tweets in the summary version, and it was very interesting!

Q: Did you decide on the character after meeting with the prototype child?

ใƒใ‚ทใƒขใƒˆ: No, we haven't actually met. My first meeting with Mr. Matsukoma took place at a signing session after the release of the first volume. After all, if you meet the other party before you establish the persona, then it is easy to be taken away by the other party. First of all, I just wanted to create the character purely and based on the original game's interesting NETA.

Q: In this way, ใƒใ‚ทใƒขใƒˆ has created her own Nietzsche teacher. And there was a part of the female readers who said, "This is a handsome guy", which caused a commotion. So what does Miss ใƒใ‚ทใƒขใƒˆ think of such a man?

ใƒใ‚ทใƒขใƒˆ: As for me, I guess I want to keep a little distance when dealing with such characters (laughs).

Q: I see. So what difficulties did the two of them, as the original author and the person in charge of painting, encounter in the creative process?

ใƒใ‚ทใƒขใƒˆ:Because it's a single-page comic.,So the picture and the plot can't conflict.ใ€‚ It's more difficult. For this reason, Mr. Matsukoma's expression (which appeared in the original work) became more and more strange (laughs). It's not easy to take into account the diversity of your audience.

Matsukoma: The story of an episode should be condensed into about 140 words, which is quite hard. If you want the story to be interesting, it can be more than 200 words, so you can't fit it into a single page of comics. And even if the text is funny, it doesn't mean that the comics are just as funny. Therefore, although I am the original author, I also hope that the plot of the manga is about the length of a paragraph.

Q: Due to the popularity of this work, there are many people in society who want to "become a writer from social media" like Mr. Matsukoma. So what are you able to offer for such people?

Matsukoma: I realized that in fact, a writer's debut does not need to be submitted to the newcomer award, and it is realized through formal channels. But now that the number of such examples is increasing, everyone can be a provider of information. There are still many opinions on this, and there is no one conclusive conclusion, but it may be possible to produce interesting works from surprising places. In that sense, I think the current network environment is great. In addition, if you gain popularity through social platforms, it means that your identity itself is valuable. For example, if you are a convenience store clerk and convey information, you will not talk about school or your interests, but will talk about what is happening in the convenience store in a very flat way. Doing so will gain popularity, and it will be easy for people to notice.

Social platforms are now at their peak, and customer complaints are becoming more frequent...... It is in this context that this work was born. And maybe "Mr. Nietzsche" is the convenience store that is active in your neighborhood and frequents......!
