Hikaru Midorikawa talks about "The Battle of the Chains": I can't extricate myself from it
Launched in 2013 by Sega Network, the popular online video role-playing game "Chains Wars" has been loved by gamers since its release. In addition to Akira Ishida, who voiced the leader of the Volunteers, the luxurious voice actor lineup such as Ayane Sakura and Marei Uchida also added a lot of luster to the work. The second part of the game will move the stage to the "New World", and at the same time, Hikaru Midorikawa will also participate in the production of this work as a voice actor. Midorikawa himself is actually a loyal player of "Chain Wars", so how will he feel about this work? Recently, a Japanese media interviewed him, let's see what he will say!
■ Chains is a game I love and I can enjoy it
Q: When did you start playing Chainkee?
Midorikawa: If it's the news of the game, it should have been around December 2013, but I hadn't started playing it yet. After playing it, I've pretty much played the first part so far. And since I'll be voicing characters in the game from the second part, it's a blessing to be able to beat the first part before the second part.
Q: I heard that you recorded all the lines of your character in one day. So what kind of role are you playing?
Midorikawa: I've played more than 20 roles. First of all, I used the detailed setting of the character as a sample, and then I discussed various aspects with the sound director at the dubbing scene, and then I recorded while polishing the character image. For some of the characters, I also improvise, thinking that "it would be fun if I spoke in this style", and the director was OK in this regard.
Q: That's a lot of people. Isn't it also the most of Mr. Midorikawa's previous works?
Midorikawa: It's the first time I've voiced so many characters in one day. But I thought, "Give me a little more!" (laughs)"
I've heard that Mr. Akira Ishida has about 50 characters, and he has so much motivation! I'm the same generation as him in terms of age, so I don't want to lose to him (laughs). I really want to play a little bit more.
Q: Do you have any new roles that stand out to you?
Midorikawa: A beautiful young man with a fox's tail and ears, and a boy with different eyes. Sure enough, adding highlights to a character that suits my taste can arouse my passion! Well, on the day of the recording, there were only two of them who saw the image, and maybe that's one of the reasons (laughs).
What I particularly like is the "Paladin Leader's 'Guardian Hand of the Sanctuary' Wayne" drawn by ひとと。 Wayne's portrait is really beautiful, and since I tried it on a computer, the screen is much larger than a smartphone, so I stared at it while exclaiming, "It's amazing~~" (laughs). There are also "Hadiphas, the Demon of Truth" and "Sapras, the Nourishing Demon God", which are also very cute.
Q: Among so many game apps, what do you think is the charm of "Chain Wars"?
Midorikawa: I think there are a lot of them, but personally, the game is very delicate in its depiction of details. I appreciate that. I've tried a lot of apps before, but what I like most about Chains is the flashing light that flashes when I show my cards, and I'm happy with those details. In addition, the character in your hand can decide what style to fight according to the player's preferences, and it also has a high degree of freedom in terms of control. With this mode of operation, we need to think carefully about our own strategic issues.
Depending on the scenario, we'll control the characters to move forward or backward, or several characters walking side by side, as well as how to build up energy and choose the best time to use their special moves, all of which are part of the player's control. And in the process of thinking about these issues, we can also try to make the characters we have more cute.
Q: When I tried to play the game, I sometimes thought that a certain character was very good, so I made Arkena (cards) and strengthened them. But in the process, I found new characters on the scene, and I liked them very much. For example, when facing a character who is also a warrior, you have to worry about which one to strengthen first.
Midorikawa: I've been in this situation before. I want to cultivate this character, and I want to cultivate that role, what should I do at this time...... Game apps like this are systems where players accumulate points while spending time and then use them to continue the game, right? Of course, if you want to play better, then you need to spend money (wry smile). But if you can spend money to make the character grow, this is also everyone's heartfelt desire. You can play for free, but on the other hand, you can use the paid system according to your overall needs, so as long as you can have fun, then I am very welcome.
Q: I think that's the case.
Midorikawa: Playing the game at your own pace is the best choice. In addition, "Chains Wars" gives players a chance to randomly get gacha treasures every time they do an event. I am very satisfied with this. Even free-to-play players will be able to get a chance to gacha. And some unwanted Alkena can be exchanged for props or lottery priorities, which I also feel very kind about. By the way, I'm the type of "digging a little bit of money" and putting a fixed amount of money into the game every month. Although it is my personal opinion, I like to think about "Hmm~ when should I pay for it?" Is it now!? "Take action after that. And the subtle control of the cost I think can also add a lot of fun to the game.
Q: Do you have any favorite Alkena?
Midorikawa: "The Legendary Gohimgika" is better than people say. I love the artwork and if I get it when I don't expect it, it makes me "Hey!?" The earth cried out. And if you put it into actual combat, you can increase your defense and attack power while activating your skills, and you can have a certain chance of killing the enemy, and depending on your ability, it can also greatly restore your HP, which is a very powerful character. And if you combine the "Legendary Goji Mjika" and the "Persistent Demon God Aromelous", it can quickly store energy, which is a very satisfying combination.
Q: Tell us about your main combination.
Midorikawa: I have a lot of combinations, but most of them use "Prison Demon Man Koloba Dillon", "Self-Blowing Assassin Syrstein", and "Nourishing Demon God Sapras" as the main body. Of course, it will change depending on your needs. The support members are "Lady Juliana" and "Girl Fina of the Chronicles", and they can increase your attack and defense, so I use the lineup regularly (laughs).
Q: What would you like to say to your fans?
Midorikawa: I won't be playing a character until the second part comes out, but I've managed to participate in the voice acting, so I hope that players will be able to use my voice and have fun. And now I think there are some people who have already completed the first part, but for those who have played halfway through the game, and those who plan to get into this game in the future, I hope you will find the game very interesting and think, "If it's this game, then it doesn't matter if I pay some money!" "Please have a good time. I think it's a game worth playing, and it's going to get better and better in the future. I'd be very happy if you could be a Chainchain companion like I did.
Q: Thank you very much for your time today!
