No.136 Eat bud valley
While waiting for the first day of the eighth month, Qingshu went to the Grange. The bud grain sticks on their Zhuangzi are obviously larger than those planted in other people's fields, and the seeds are thicker than others' when they peel off a little skin. Some of the bud sticks are twice as big as others.
This is the difference between removing seedlings and not removing seedlings in the spring when the buds are in the seedling stage. Today's farmers, not to mention the distance between the bud plants planted is too close, they will leave as many seedlings as they grow, and not a single seedling will be removed. Therefore, if it is too dense, the cob knot will not be large and the kernel will not be too thick.
And on their Zhuangzi, at the request of Qingshu, the seeds were planted according to two grains (in order to ensure that there was no shortage of seedlings), and the plant spacing was much larger than others. Then wait until the seedlings emerge and grow to a height above the ground, leaving only one seedling, and shoveling off the excess. As a result, their buds are large and have thick grains, and the rice produced on one cob can surpass the rice grown by others on two or three cobs.
Wu Langtou Wu Steward followed Qingshu, "Miss, everyone got together and estimated it, our bud valley, the yield per mu is between one and a half to two stones." β
The yield per mu is between 450 jin and 600 jin, and the yield is still not high. She also thought that the yield per mu could reach about 700 catties. It seems that there is still work to be done. She vaguely remembered that the old people had said that in the era of no chemical fertilizer and mechanization, there was enough fertilizer and water, and the yield per mu of bud valley could reach seven or eight hundred catties. She thought, using her fingernails to press the seeds of the bud grains, a little laborious and not juicy, already ripe, hard, and unable to cook or cook.
When he walked to the ten acres of bud valley planted with the stubble of winter wheat, Qingshu also opened a stick to look.
Steward Wu said with a regretful face, "Miss, I'm afraid that the buds of these ten acres of land will not be ripe in time for the autumn harvest." Not long after the stick came out, the grain had not yet taken shape, and when it was time for the autumn harvest, it was deflated, and it could only be fed to the livestock, and it could not be bought for any money. β
At this time, the normal bud grain has begun to wither and yellow from the bottom leaf to one or two leaves, and the cobs have basically grown, and the rest is slowly ripe. And the bud valley of ten acres of land here is the time when it grows green, and it will definitely not be ripe before the autumn harvest.
Qing Shu had his own plans in his heart, but he didn't want to say it in advance, "Steward Wu, you don't have to worry, these ten acres of land must also be taken care of, and when it comes to the autumn harvest, it will be useful." β
After that went to the cabbage field. The cabbage planted under the stubble of spring wheat is also very gratifying. This year's cabbage will not be sold, and all the pickled sauerkraut will be picked to earn another sum while no one learns it. Qingshu originally planned to buy a large area of land to plant, but he never came across a sale, so he could only take another look. It's really not good, so I can only find a suitable place to open up the wasteland.
Walking through the bud valley again, Qing Shu couldn't hold back after all, and whispered to Wu Steward, "You go in, break ten or twenty sticks of tender bud valley, you want to be a big one, the seeds are good and the juice is pinched." Don't let anyone see it, I'm going to take it. "She was so hungry for boiling corn and roasting corn that she couldn't bear it, so she couldn't bear it, so she took it and cooked it secretly, and it just so happened that she had her own small kitchen.
Steward Wu felt sorry for those tender bud valleys in his heart, but he didn't say much, agreed and got into the bud valley field.
The people take food as the sky, and food is the foundation. In ancient times, no one would break the tender bud grain, because it was a waste and did not cherish the grain. In the final analysis, it is the result of food scarcity and low food production.
While secretly spitting on her greed, Qing Shu couldn't help but be happy, and told Xiaojuan to go over and call the carriage over. Soon, Li Dalang drove the carriage over and stopped at the place designated by Qingshu. After waiting for a while, Steward Wu got out of the ground, motioned to Xiaojuan to open the curtain of the carriage, and then put the seven or eight bud grain sticks in his arms into the carriage. He turned and went into the ground again, and after a while, when he came back, he carried a dozen bud sticks in his arms, and put them in the car as well.
Qing Shu nodded, "It's okay." β
After going to Zhuangzi, Steward Wu took a smaller basket to Xiaojuan and told Xiaojuan to wait and quietly load the things in the car so that no one could see it.
When it was time for lunch, Qingshu followed everyone to eat a bud grain noodle cake with pickles, and then pulled three baskets of eggs and two baskets of greens back to the town. After entering the house, the eggs and vegetables were moved to the kitchen. And Xiaojuan, who carried the back basket of Bud Valley, didn't give anyone it, and directly carried it back to Qingshu's small kitchen.
Qing Shu rested for a while, drank a sip of water, changed into a cotton dress, and began to assign tasks. "Xiaojuan, you go to the front and tell Young Master SΓΉ, Young Master Rong and Young Master Chen to come here for dinner at night. By the way, tell Mr. Lu and let Shengge follow the young master and them to come over here to eat. "Lily of the valley, you go and say hello to Xu Sanniang and Xu Wuniang, and let Xiaoya and Maizi come to me for dinner." Then he beckoned to Xiaoyu, "You come with me." β
Qingshu took Xiaoyu into the kitchen and assigned Xiaoyu to work, "You brush the pot, put a small half pot of water, light a fire, and then go to the kitchen to find Xu Sanniang to get a smaller pumpkin." By the way, take a few taels of lean meat and grab a few sticks of each green. When she had finished speaking, she took a low stool and sat down in front of the basket, and took a stick of bud from the basket, peeled the skin, and carefully plucked her beard. After picking one, she put it in the clay pot prepared next to her.
By the time Xiaoyu cleaned up the pot, filled it with water, and went out with a stove fire, Qingshu had already picked up eight bud grains. She counted the number of people, and then picked up four more bract skins, and the rest, with the skins, was left in the back basket, and moved to the base of the wall, and covered it with a coarse blue cloth.
Qing Shu took the basin to the board, took a kitchen knife, put a bud on the board, compared it, a kitchen knife cut down, cut out a small section, and cut two knives, I felt that it was okay, and put the four buds cut out into the pot of boiling water. This has a bad point, the juice of the part of the seed cut by the knife comes out, put it in the water and boil, this part will lose its taste. She thought about it, and if she didn't cut it, she would put the whole stick of the eleven buds into the pot. Then he picked out some of the tender skin in the inner layer of the bud skin and covered it on the water, covered the pot, and sat in front of the stove to fill the fire. When she was a child, her grandmother cooked it like this, saying that it was better to cook it with tender skin.
Xiaoyu hugged a small pumpkin and came back with Xiaojuan, who carried a small basket of vegetables.
Qingshu gave the errand of lighting the fire to Xiaoyu, and Xiaojuan packed up the bud grain and sent it to the stable to feed the horses.
Qing Shu washed the pumpkin, put it on the board, cut a hole from the root position, took out the seeds and the like inside, and set aside. Then turn to wash the vegetables.
Xiaojuan came back and snatched the job of washing vegetables from Qingshu.
So Qing Shu moved to the cutting board, cut the lean slices, took the washed vegetables or cut them into small pieces, or cut them into small slices, and filled them into the pumpkin belly. Then cut the green onions, ginger and garlic and fill it in, add a few seasonings and salt at hand, add oil, and add a small amount of water. Finally, cover the sliced pumpkin roots.
Xiao Juan felt strange, "Miss, what are you doing here?" β
Qing Shu thought for a while, "I don't know what I'm doing, anyway, I had a whim, I wanted to do this, so I did it." Don't ask, quickly open the lid of the pot and put a steaming drawer in it, I want to put this pumpkin dish in and steam it. The pumpkin was filled with meat and greens, and she decided to simply call it a pumpkin dish.
Xiaojuan was dumbfounded, "Ah, steamed? β
Qing Shu urged her, "Don't, hurry up." It's time to boil. By the way, remember to help me put a larger, deep-bottomed plate in, I have to sit on the pumpkin dish so that it is too ripe to take it. β
Xiao Yujian yΓ¬, "Miss, the slave maid thinks it's better to sit in the basin." β
Xiaojuan echoed, "The slave also thinks it's better to put it in the pot." β
Do you want the minority to obey the majority? Qing Shu thought for a while, "Okay, which of you goes to the kitchen to get it, don't be too big, ask for a small basin." β
By the time the pumpkin dish is seated and the lid is closed, the water in the pot is already boiling. Xiaoyu continued to add fire, and Qingshu went out for a casual walk.
Slowly, the sweet smell of the fresh buds wafted into the small kitchen and wafted out of the small kitchen window. Qingshu came back in a circle, smelling the sweet smell wafting from the courtyard, and the gluttonous insects came up again. Look at the sky, and tell Xiaojuan to move a few kang tables quickly. There are more children, put the kang table together in the courtyard, spread mats on the ground, spread coarse cloth on the mat, everyone sits around to eat, it must be lively.
When the mat is ready, the table is open, and the cutlery is full, the buds are cooked, and the steamed pumpkin vegetables on top are ready. The pumpkin didn't fall apart, and it looked like it was still a whole thing. Xiaojuan took the chopsticks to poke, Qingshu quickly slapped her hand away, and sent her and Xiaoyu to the kitchen to serve the evening's meal.
When he was left alone, Qingshu pulled the ashes of the stove and looked at it, and the embers of chopping wood were still very red, so he took two bud grain sticks with skin from the back basket, threw them into the stove pit, and pulled the embers to bury the two bud grain sticks thrown in. After that, I washed my hands, fished out the boiled golden buds from the pot, put them on the cutting board, left them to dry, took a kitchen knife and cut them into sections, and put them back in the pot to stuff. Seeing that there was nothing to do, she took the only one left with a whole stick of boiled bud grain, and exchanged it in both hands to gnaw and eat. The reason for changing hands is that it's just too hot.
By the time Xiaojuan and Xiaoyu brought the food and laid it out, Qingshu had already eaten most of it. By the time Qingyang and the others arrived, she was almost finished.
A few small ones sniffed the fragrance wafting in the courtyard, and when they saw what Qing Shu was eating, they felt strange and shouted to eat.
It is said that when children get together to eat, they will have a greater appetite and eat more than usual. Qing Shu finally believed these words today.
Qing Shu asked them to sit around the table from large to small, and then put a section of bud grain on the plate in front of each person. From the nine-year-old Chen Qiaojiang to the youngest three-and-a-half-year-old Maizi and Shengge, there were a total of six children, and I saw them all grabbing buds and gnawing on them, and the gnawing movements were different, and the cheeks of the food were bulging, and the smaller the more cute. Qing Shu was really cute, watching them eat like a game, squinting with a smile.
Although it was very happy to see them eat like this, but he was worried that he would suffer from indigestion if he didn't chew well, Qingshu advised, "Eat slowly, eat slowly." Then he took his chopsticks and ordered the pumpkin on the table, "I'll make a delicious dish for you." As he spoke, with chopsticks in one hand and a spoon in the other, he carefully picked up the pumpkin lid that was buckled on top and put it on the empty plate next to it, and immediately, a burst of fragrant fragrance wafted from the pumpkin's belly.
Chen Qiaojiang pounced, chewed the bud valley in his mouth, and asked inarticulately, "What is this?" β
Qing Shu smiled, "Go back and sit down, the disobedient ones won't eat." β
Chen Qiaojiang cut and sat back, staring at Qing Shu's movements, and did not forget to gnaw on the bud in his hand.
Qing Shu scooped three spoonfuls of pumpkin vegetables into a bowl for each of the six of them, and put them in front of them one by one, "Taste if it's delicious." β
Qingyang put down the half-eaten bud cob, "My sister's cooking must be delicious", and then the first one scooped it with a spoon, his eyes lit up, "It's delicious." β
Chen Qiaojiang was suspicious, tasted it, and didn't speak.
Qingshu took the spoon and scooped it little by little. Seeing the little ones open their mouths to eat them, she somehow thought of the scene of the mother bird feeding the young birds, and she burst out laughing.
The children all wanted to be fresh, and the six dishes that the cook made specially made did not give too much face, but they snatched up the pumpkin dishes made by Qingshu. When the pumpkin vegetables finished eating the meat and greens that filled their stomachs, and then dug into the flavored pumpkin pulp and distributed it to them, they were especially welcomed by the wheat and shengge. And all the boiled buds were eaten by them. Qing Shu was glad that he was prescient and hid some of it and didn't bring it out. Boiled bud grain is delicious, but it is difficult to digest if you eat too much, especially for children.
When the six little ones were full and dispersed, Qing Shu took the six dishes they didn't eat much, and took the hidden bud grains to eat. Xiaojuan and Xiaoyu didn't go to the kitchen to eat, and followed Qingshu to eat. When they finished eating, Xiaoyu and Xiaojuan were cleaning up the table, and Qingyang took Luo Xiaorong's hand and ran over, quietly telling Qingshu that Mr. Lu was scolding her.
Qing Shu felt strange, "Why did Mr. Lu scold me?" β
Qingyang complained, "Mr. Lu asked Shengge what he ate, and Shengge said that he ate delicious. Mr. Lu called the three of us to go, Xiao Rong and I didn't say to show our mouths, it was Chen Qiaojiang who said to show us. The gentleman was very angry when he heard this, saying that his sister had something good to hide and not give it to him, and scolded his sister for being unfilial. β
Qing Shu stroked his forehead, "I've never seen such a greedy gentleman." Okay, give your handkerchief to your sister, and your sister will pack two, and you can take it to Mr. and Mrs. to eat. β
After a while, Mr. Lu got his wish and ate the sweet tender bud grain, which was beautiful in his heart. Sheng Ge still remembered its sweet taste and wanted to eat it, so he didn't look for his mother, only his father, climbed onto Mr. Lu's lap, called his father softly, and stared straight at the bud valley.
Mr. Lu wanted to give Shengge a nibble, but Qingyang hurriedly stopped him like a little adult, "No, my sister said that children can't eat too much at once, they will have a stomachache." β
Sheng Ge made a bitter face, and buried his head in Mr. Lu's arms and couldn't come out.
