All talking about boobs? MA/Demon High School Producer Interview
I'm sure everyone is very familiar with a light novel called "Demon High School DXD", right? The demeanor of the Milk Dragon Emperor with Kaji Yugui's voice, coupled with many gorgeously designed girls, made the novel very well received after being adapted into a TV anime, and therefore recently launched the PSV game "Demon High School DXDNF". On the other hand, the card game "Diffusion Million King Arthur" is also a perennial work for many players, and there is also a PSV version. So when the two games come together, what kind of sparks will burst out? To this end, some Japanese media conducted exclusive interviews with Yuki Furukawa and Hong Hito, the makers of the two games, to learn about those untold stories from their mouths.
■ The behind-the-scenes story of the "Diffusion Million King Arthur" x "Demon High School DXDNF" collaboration
Furukawa: This time, I took the initiative to ask Mr. Hong for cooperation. We went to have dinner together, and the discussion was very lively, so we also thought about planning a conversation.
Q: What did you both talk about?
Hong: There are all kinds of things, including some things that can't be written here (wry smile).
Furukawa: The PSV version of "Diffusion Million King Arthur" is a regular collaboration with different titles, but "Demon High School DXD", which is operated by F2P, is a case where we rarely collaborate. We are all in charge of operations, so we have all encountered very difficult things, so naturally we talked about it.
Hong: There are very few F2P games in PSV, so it is very difficult to produce and operate.
Furukawa: In addition, Mr. Hong used to make some great games at Korean game companies, and he also told the story of that time.
Hong: When I was in Korea, I was involved in the production of various games. It belongs to the MMORPG producer. Later, I was in charge of expansion activities in Japan and China, and I came to Japan as an opportunity. I've been with Marvelous for 3 years now.
Q: What is the content of this collaboration?
Furukawa: The Diffusion Million King Arthur will summon characters from Demon High School DXDNF, and these characters will need to collect items in order to return to their original world. We also made a lot of co-op cards.
Hong: "Diffusion Million King Arthur" is a very famous work, and it belongs to our predecessors in the PSV field, so we thought about making sure that it works with us...... However, in order to achieve such cooperation, it is necessary to build a new mechanism, so it is also difficult.
Furukawa: When we were working together, we had to build some plot events, but this time we discussed it three months ago, and we discussed a lot of issues around each other's card art.
Q: I've seen the co-art art, and it's quite revealing!
Hung: Marvelous does all the things that need to be reviewed, so that's no problem (laughs).
Furukawa: It's the same for us at SquareEnix (laughs).
Q: This time, not only "Diffusion Million King Arthur" is here, but "Demon High School DXDNF" is also cooperating.
Hong: Yes. Because there is an event that happens in the game, "Summoning War", it is combined with this event. We made the characters from "Diffusion Million King Arthur" appear in it, and we also made the characters from "Demon High School DXDNF" look like each other. For this collaboration, we introduced a slightly more complex system and put a lot of effort into it.
Q: For example, there are changes to the theme song?
Hong: Yes. This time, in addition to the in-game event, we also produced a theme song dedicated to the collaboration period, etc. In addition, the music and backgrounds from "Diffusion Million King Arthur" are used in the game, so that players can't figure out which game they are playing (laughs).
Q: Now that the music has become the same, does it really make it more collaborative? It feels as if the two games have come together. "Demon High School DXDNF" has only been released for about half a year, so have you analyzed what kind of users will play this game?
Hong: Naturally, there are still men in their 20s. There are many people who have experienced connecting to PlayStationNetwork to play.
Furukawa: Surprisingly, I've heard that there are fewer people than I thought would play both Diffuse Millions King Arthur and Demon High School DXDNF. And both games actually have relatively stable players, so it would be nice if this cooperation could be a bridge between the two games.
■What is the purpose of the F2P game made on the PSV platform?
Q: So what kind of people are the users of the "Diffusion Million King Arthur" PSV?
Furukawa: I guess I'm older. In the field of PSV, such users are somewhat rare.
Q: It's definitely not easy to make a F2P game with PSV. So what are the hardest places? Also, what are the advantages of doing this?
Hong: I have a lot of experience in developing computer games, and as for the works of the Zuò home game console, "Demon High School DXDNF" is also the first one. However, I think this kind of platform can have a high performance. The graphics are beautiful and it's easy to perform. As for the difficulties, it will take more time to deal with customer feedback.
Furukawa: The beautiful graphics are really a big plus. In 2012, we started to release "Diffusion Million King Arthur" on smartphones, and we put a lot of effort into the theme song graphics. It's just that the development level of smart phones was limited at that time, and it was difficult to ensure the quality of the theme song video that had been worked so hard to make, and there would be mosaics or something. When I put the screen on the PSV, the video immediately became very beautiful, and I felt that I was finally able to play 100% of the time. I think the PSV's image output capability is really strong.
Q: Regarding Demon High School DXDNF, I think most of the people who play the game are fans of the original game, so will this affect the game development?
Hong: There are also a lot of people who are fans of the original game, and we try to be close to the original in terms of illustration, animation, and sound. If you fans of the original work can think that "the makers know the original work very well", then we will be satisfied.
Furukawa: Did the original author complain about this collaboration?
Hong: No, all of them are very smooth. "Diffusion Million King Arthur" itself has a variety of worldviews, and it has also collaborated with many works, so the copyright company did not ask too much.
Q: On the other hand, do you have to be careful when working with a work like Demon High School DXDNF, which doesn't have an original work, when you work with a work like "Demon High School DXDNF"?
Furukawa: This is also to make sure that the person in charge of copyright has a clear understanding of the content of the cooperation. I think "Diffusion Million King Arthur" is a work that can be very easily accepted with various worldviews, so it is not difficult in this aspect. We've worked with a lot of work before, but if we want it to get noticed, we have to have something that catches the eye. I'd like to have some game carnivals and other events on a regular basis.
Q: You mentioned the 2012 smartphone version of the "Diffusion Million King Arthur" service, do you find it difficult in such a long period of operation?
Furukawa:The PSV version has been in service since April 2013, and the people at BeXide, who are in charge of development, have been very good at the details, which has helped us a lot. Also, in a good sense, we don't have many competitors, which ultimately allows the work to have a long lifespan.
■Both games have a "soft elasticity function", so make good use of it
Q: Speaking of which, please tell us about the opportunity to add the "soft elastic function" to "Diffusion Million King Arthur".
Furukawa: When the PSV version was first introduced, we released a PV in which we had the characters shake their breasts for the purpose of NETA, and the response from the users was so good that we decided to "let's do this!" (laughs)
Q: Is there anything you are more obsessed with about the way you shake your breasts?
Furukawa: BeXide has a "chest expert" on the other side (laughs). It's not just the size of the breasts, but if they touch the arms or clothes near the chest, they will say, "There should be such a nipple shake, right?" "Anyway, it's all about the details.
Q: And "Demon High School DXDNF" not only has a breast shake setting, but even added the "skirt ruined miè" system, what is the reason for this?
Hong: This is to further recreate the original work. When I made the zuò model during development, I thought it would work, so I added it. We also have designers like milk shakers at SquareEnix (laughs). It took me 2 months to communicate with that person to get to where I am now.
Q: What "Diffusion Million King Arthur" and "Demon High School DXDNF" have in common is breast shake, so is the system the same?
Furukawa: I don't think so.
Hong: In Demon High School DXDNF, we set the center point, range, and shaking intensity of the breasts, and then we realized the breast shake. In addition, the question of where and how to touch is also considered in terms of strength and speed, and this has also been adjusted.
Furukawa: In the past, when "Diffusion Million King Arthur" and "Shinran Kagura" were collaborated, Kenichiro Takagi had a conversation with me. At that time, we talked about the topic of "phantom milk". In other words, it is impossible for the actual chest to shake like this, but we strongly want it to shake like this. That's the kind of people gathered at Marvelous (laughs).
Hong: The designer in charge of the milk shake and the person in charge of submitting the image request are all women. Those two were very enthusiastic about the problem of breast shake. It's almost to the point where I don't have to say anything to get it right (wry smile).
Furukawa: Surprisingly, women are very obsessed with this. The Ideaf, which we used to work with, had quite bold images, and the designers were all women. If a man joins in, he will complain, "Isn't this too vulgar?" I think the things that women make are the ones that are closest to the bottom line.
Q: From the perspective of cards and other aspects, the response to this collaboration is also worth looking forward to.
Furukawa: It's a very exciting time. I've seen a lot of footage so far, and it's amazing in every sense of the word (laughs).
Hong: I'm looking forward to it too. The female creator I mentioned in the topic just said to me, "We should also develop in this direction." "Demon High School DXDNF" itself is the first time to collaborate with other works, and I think the content of this collaboration will surprise the guests.
Q: Are there people who are disgusted and say that they hate the soft elasticity function?
Furukawa: No, there won't be anything like that. We are only looking at the problem from the point of view of improving quality. And it doesn't mean that after adding this feature, other functions can't be used.
Q: What are the best parts of the works in the hands of the two of you? Can you tell us a little bit about that?
Furukawa: They put a lot of hard work into faithfully recreating the work. I think it's great enough to be able to do that.
Hong: This time we tried to add popular characters from Diffuse Millions of King Arthur to the game, and I felt that my taste in choosing illustrations could be improved. I've seen the illustrations in development and I think they're very cute. Not only is the exposure Cheng dù very high, but it also fully reflects the cute characteristics of the character.
Q: It would be nice if this collaboration could bring about a relationship between users of the two games.
Furukawa: Yes. I think it would be nice to have a wider PSV market. Therefore, I want to collaborate with various works and make the whole market lively.
Hong: I've played a lot of PSV games, but I've heard people say, "There are still too few games that can make people burn!" sound (laughs). It's a bit lonely, so I'd be very happy if this collaboration would give everyone the opportunity to play PSV.
Q: Finally, please say a few words about today's cooperation!
Furukawa: This collaboration has put a lot of effort into illustration, and since it's a PSV version, we've also prepared a soft elastic function, so be sure to look forward to it!
Hong: It's the first time I've worked on a game that I've come across that I'm so familiar with each other's games. We also try to make the guests think, "Ah, I can understand why you cooperated", so please try to have fun.
