The main voice actor talks about the charm of "GATE Fantasy Self-Defense Force".

In July 2015, a new adaptation of a light novel called "GATE Fantasy Self-Defense Force" was released to the audience. This work has plenty of highlights both in terms of the plot and the voice actor lineup. Recently, some media interviewed the main creators and voice actors, and the full text is as follows.

■ The teenage protagonist can only be counted as a child!?

Q: First of all, could you tell us about your role?

Junichi Suwabe (Yoshi Itami): Itami is a 33-year-old non-commissioned officer of the Self-Defense Forces who lives for his own interests rather than work. On the way to participate in the fandom exhibition, he was caught up in the commotion and saw the door to the other world, and since then he has a close connection with the other world.

Hoshiko Kanamoto (Durga Luna Mars): I'm voicing an elf girl who lives in another world on the other side of the door. Basically, it appeared in the form of being protected by the Self-Defense Forces of Itami and others. The overall character is more cheerful and lively, but there are shadows because of some impact events, which also directly affects the plot later.

Dong ** Yang (Lei Lai La Lena Servants): Lei Lai is also a resident of another world, but her race is Terran. Although it seems that it is not easy to show emotions and seems very mature, there is a hidden passion in the heart. And he is also a clever magister who plays a role in communicating different races.

Risa Taneda (Lori McChuli): Lori is a sub-god who serves the god Omorrah. Wielding a huge axe in the work, he is active as the main combat force. Her look is very handsome and cute, and sometimes she looks very seductive. It's an incredible character with many faces.

Q: The main character, Itami, is a man in his 30s, so it's rare to see such an anime.

Suwabe: I think it's a good thing. I hope that the number of works in which adults play the protagonist will gradually increase. After all, in reality, saving the world is an adult's job! Even if it's an anime, you can't leave the burden to young people!

Together: (laughs).

Taneda: Itami is an excellent self-defense officer with a lot of experience, but he also has a soft side in personality and actions, and he is a very interesting person. So it's a character that makes people feel very close. It's also a type of protagonist who can get along with anyone.。

Jin Yuan: For Du Jia, Itami is like an older brother, feeling very relieved and trustworthy.

Higashiyama: The Self-Defense Forces were able to build a good relationship with the residents of another world, and it was also because of Itami's relationship as the captain. Itami and us characters should be a little more vigilant. But vigilance leads to armed conflict. However, he is a person who has no ambition for work and no political desire, so he can become a partner with the other party.

Suwabu: No matter how big or small, Itami avoids getting involved because he is afraid of trouble, but in fact he is a real tough guy. Because of that gentleness, he had a lot to carry. Although he doesn't want to take responsibility and just wants to do what he likes, he is a member of an organization and sometimes has to act against his will...... This kind of attitude that doesn't go as well as you want but still works hard gives you the impression of a real adult.

Q: Did the girls who voiced the heroine realize Itami's age during the recording?

Higashiyama: The first thing I decided about was the elements of the inhabitants of the other world, so I guess I didn't care too much about Itami's age.

Jin Yuan: And Du Jia is still an elf, more than 100 years old in terms of age.

Taneda: As for Lori, she should be XX years old.

Suwabu: Regardless of the work, the balance with other voice actors is worth noting, so we don't really care about the age of the setting, and the performance naturally doesn't make us pay attention to it. Rather than these, we have to think about what our role is going to take on and what kind of personality it is.

Q: In other words, more important than age is the individual.

Suwabu: Yes. It's the inner thing that matters. Itami has a so-called otaku interest, but sometimes he can be a very reliable hero. So what is the benchmark for his actions? This can only be convincing when dubbing can only be shown in dubbing.

■ How to play the heroine of a different world

Q: So how did Miss Kim Won grasp the role of Du Jia?

Jin Yuan: I didn't care about her elf status, and I performed with a feeling that she was an ordinary girl who lived happily with her family. This is the same thing that we think about living in modern Japan.

Suwabu: She is very important for the development of the plot.

Jin Yuan: After watching the original work, I feel that she gradually shows a side that was unimaginable at the beginning along with the development of the plot. And I'm also looking forward to how to express her original character and behavior, and how to face the questions she raises.

Q: What about Leilai?

Higashiyama: Leilai tends to talk about things lightly, and is a character who doesn't show much emotion. So even if I understand a character like that, how do I convey that effect in terms of sound? Actually, it's not clear. I'm also very worried about this.

Suwa Department: The delicate Leilai is indeed a very difficult role.

Higashiyama: Leilai needs a kind of "table xiàn without a table". Although it is said that it does not show feelings, it does not mean that it is an empty shell, so it is still necessary to express it. I will continue to learn about this kind of process in the future.

Q: Lori is probably the most unique character among the inhabitants of the other world, right?

Taneda: She has a very full personality, so I enjoy it while dubbing it. The combat ability is also very strong, and the scenes are very beautiful when fighting, and they are usually so cute and bewitching. I grabbed these keywords and said whatever I wanted.

Suwa Department: Lori is also a character in charge of delivering benefits (laughs).

Farming: Yes. At the beginning, when creating the character, the director told me, "All in all, the table is sexy". For this reason, I also put a lot of effort into the end of each sentence. Anyway, it's a character with a lot of characteristics that deserve everyone's attention (laughs)

■ Discoveries made through contact with other worlds

Q: "GATE" is about the exchange between different cultures.

Suwabu: It's a fantasy work set in the world of swords and magic, and to be honest, it's not a genre that I'm particularly good at, but this work incorporates elements of modern society, so I suddenly have a sense of intimacy, and I like it very much. It's interesting to see the harmony in the work that is not just hostile to each other, but has some real feelings.

Taneda: I've always been a fan of fantasy, but when I found out that this work also incorporated modern culture, I was excited and thought, "I wonder if this and that is going to happen." Therefore, the feelings are even higher.

Kanamoto: I find it interesting that Japan is completely different from other countries in terms of values. What modern people attach great importance to may be completely worthless in the other world. It's like, "What I'm bothering with is not at all a problem in the eyes of others." So I also ...... Don't think too much about it!

Higashiyama: I share the same opinion as Miss Kim Won, that in our culture, some things that are taken for granted have become 0 in the other world, which is interesting. For example, when a member of the Self-Defense Forces arrives in another world, they are called "green men". To this I sighed: "I see, that's how they see us." ”

Suwabu: There are often conflicts between countries and people because of their differences, but it is also possible to overcome these barriers and achieve true reconciliation. This work attaches great importance to the depiction of this aspect. Although it is not easy for the anime to bring out the essence of the original work, I have a hunch that it is still a well-balanced work.

Jin Yuan: The work is very particular about the details of the setting and research, and the addition of fantasy elements to the guò makes people feel relaxed instead of feeling heavy when they watch it.

Taneda: I think people have a kind of "It's amazing!" So handsome! "It's good to watch the work.

■ Dubbing scene is in a state of hypoxia?

Suwabu: There has also been a manga version of "GATE" based on the original novel, but the anime is not directly copied from the manga version for visualization, but it is a variety of resets for the development of the plot and the creation of characters. After all, it is director Naohiko Kyogoku who is in charge of the work, and in a good sense, he will also make the girls more attractive.

Taneda: In the anime, there are a lot of characters who have been brought to a new level. In particular, Leilai's master, Carter, is voiced by Mr. Yuichi Nagashima, so the performance of Guò adds to the charm of the character.

Higashiyama: I was also very excited when I heard that it was Mr. Yuichi Nagashima dubbing, and I thought, "Really?" It's great~" Although Leilai is a mouthless character, I still performed with a smile on my face at the dubbing scene. We gathered voice actors who could make the characters shine even more, so we had a lot of fun with each other.

Jin Yuan: The scene is always crowded. Including the main characters, many of the voice actors of the characters have special personalities...... It's a really good feeling.

Higashiyama: Because there were so many people, I was even said, "Those who don't show up are bothered to wait outside the studio."

Taneda: There are so many people that I can't help but wonder, "How many characters will appear in one episode?" Every time it has a bit of a theatrical feel. If everyone flocked to the recording studio together......

Suwabe: I guess everyone will fall down due to lack of oxygen (laughs).

Q: Since there are many battle scenes, it is necessary to record sound effects such as cheers and screams. It's hard to hear about that.

Suwabu: The other side of the world is armed like medieval Europe, so the battle scenes are like hand-to-hand combat. All of us voice actors have to be together to shout together. Not only humans, but also monsters like goblins, so it would be nice if you could listen to this aspect with your heart.

Higashiyama: Some people participate in the work just to record the sound of the Self-Defense Forces. For every order and shout, there is a special person to supervise. This dedication is truly admirable.

Q: Is there a scenario where you can try out Elf to speak a different worldly language?

Jin Yuan: In the plot, compared to Duja, Itami has more opportunities to speak otherworldly languages. After all, he had to constantly communicate with people from other worlds. Also, surprisingly, Itami was very easy to communicate with.

Suwabu: Japanese people often use sign language to communicate with foreigners in Japanese-style English. As long as you have this heart, then you will definitely be able to tell the other party your thoughts! (laughs)

■The heroines form a team, and Itami is also in the plot......

Q: The three heroines sang the ending song "ぷりずむコミュニケート", please tell us about this.

Higashiyama: "GATE" is a work with a strong world view, so we are looking forward to what kind of ending song it will be. And it turned out to be a very refreshing song, which was very surprising. Basically, the personalities of several of their characters are reflected.

Taneda: After listening to the tune, I thought of the scene of three people sitting in Ginza drinking tea. It's completely out of the other world, as if they are enjoying a vacation while living in Japan. The song retains the cuteness of the characters and feels very stylish, making it a song that is easy for people to get acquainted with.

Jin Yuan: It's as if the heroines have formed a group to sing, and the rhythm is very bright and cheerful.

Higashiyama: No matter how impactful the plot is, as long as you listen to the ending song, you still feel positive. Even if anyone in this article is dying, it doesn't matter!

Suwabe: It's a cute and light song, so I'm sure it will satisfy everyone.

Q: Speaking of which, doesn't Mr. Suwabe sing something?

Suwabu: I was amazed that I sang in my work.

Q: I'm curious. What kind of tune is it?

Taneda: It's better not to tell anything about it.

Jin Yuan: I can only feel it in the work.

Higashiyama: I'm in the same mood.

Suwabu: Please look forward to the broadcast!

Q: Finally, would you like to say a few words to the readers of this interview?

Suwabu: "GATE Fantasy Self-Defense Force" has finally kicked off. At present, the recording work is being carried out in an orderly manner. And as much as we are obsessed with the details, both men and women should be entertained by this work, so be sure to tune in! Please advise!!

Jin Yuan: This is a pleasant work that allows everyone to make up for all kinds of brains. The questions that arise after seeing the other world will gradually be solved along with the development of the plot. And there are many ways that will be different from what you initially think. If you can compare your ideas with the plot and appreciate it, then I believe it will be a lot of fun. I'd be very happy if people could keep to the end.

Higashiyama: This work adds fantasy and mystery elements.,It's also very in-depth for character mining.,And there are a lot of cute girls.,This makes the animation a lot more interesting.。 Of course, it's hard to describe the charm of the work in one sentence. Therefore, first of all, I strongly hope that you will see this work, and if you look at the finished version of the video, you should be able to feel the rich amount of information in the process of the birth of the work.

Taneda: Not only fans of fantasy genres like me, but also those who are new to this worldview, I am sure to be excited. There are many charismatic characters, blood-pumping battle scenes, and a heartwarming human nature...... A lot of the elements are integrated into a single work. I believe that as long as you watch one episode, everyone will chase it until the end. Be sure to advise me.

Q: Thank you for your time today.
