Interviews with the animators of the "Monogatari" series

Executive summary: The "Monogatari" series starts from the perspective of the heroines, who know themselves, remember themselves, explore themselves, forget themselves, and finally return to themselves. It's a journey as short as a moment and as long as a reincarnation.

- How do you think Bei Mu behaved as the narrator of "Fetish"?

Miki: As the voice actor of Kaimu, I think he's just handsome! His actions are consistent with his own personality from start to finish, and he is so handsome that I don't think I need to talk about it anymore (laughs).

- This time he is finally willing to face Heiyi......

Miki: I think Battlefield is really an admirable woman, and it's not an exaggeration to say that her presence is very important to Kaimu. After Bei Mu refused her request, he hid in the toilet and asked himself, probably just trying to find a reason to convince himself to help her.

INTERVIEWER You and Ms. Saito have maintained a relationship between seniors and juniors for a long time.

Miki: Yes, if Chiwa has anything to ask me for, I'm sure I'll help too. Maybe it's this relationship that better shows the just right sense of distance between Hei Yi and Bei Mu. But to be honest, I really didn't expect the two of us to talk for a full thirty minutes. I remember a long time ago, for a special DVD of an anime, I tried to talk to a certain senior for 30 minutes about philosophy.

- The opening theme song "The Tenderness of Dead Wood" has a great impact!

Miki: Originally, I thought that Kai Mu was a person who couldn't sing, but if it was just two people singing karaoke or something together...... That's why I sang that sentence after the last sentence......

INTERVIEWER What do you think of the other girl, Nadeshiko, who confronted Beimu? What is your impression of her?

Miki: I think Nadeshiko is about to start a new life, and she used to be like a hamster running inside a roller, but this time she finally broke the wheel, but it's hard to say whether it's good or bad for her, but anyway, there's nothing to restrain her anymore.

INTERVIEWER How did you feel after the end of the story?

Miki: Again, "It's very much in line with Kaimu's character."

INTERVIEWER How do you feel after watching this "Fetish"?

Saito: This is just my personal opinion, and I think it's not so much Heiyi's "fetish" as it is "Kaigi's fetish", a crush that can never go further. Although Bei Mu accepted Heiyi's commission without asking for any compensation this time, in order to let himself take the job, he desperately found a reason to convince himself. Anyway, in terms of results, he still "helped" Hei Yi, and I think Hei Yi should be a very special girl in his mind.

INTERVIEWER From "Tale of Avatar" to "Tale of Cats (White)", and then to "Fetish Story", how do you think the character of Battlefield Hara Heiyi has changed?

Saito: From the very beginning of the story, she was a timid person, she was just afraid of getting hurt, but in fact she was not terrible, just like a small animal like a cat punching people, but in fact, she was very delicate in her heart, and she was a very girly character. The Kuroi in the original "Cat Story (White)" is more depressed than the one in the anime version, but after discussing it with Mr. Yota Tsuruoka, the sound supervisor, and Mr. Akiyuki Shinbo, the chief director, before the recording, it was decided that Kuroi should continue to follow the anime version of "Ka Monogatari", and the changed parts should be expressed as much as possible in the picture, and I would play Kuroi as before.

INTERVIEWER The second season of Monogatari has come to an end, can you tell us about your thoughts on participating in the production of this work?

Saito: I'm really happy to be able to participate in the production of the Monogatari series as the voice actor of the character Hara Kuroi. This is a work that mainly expresses the charm of language, and requires imagination to experience fun. As the audience watches in with a different mindset, I believe that the enjoyment will also change, so I hope you will keep this in mind and continue to support us in the future!

- The production of the two episodes of the second season of Monogatari has really worked hard for you, and this time I would like to ask you to talk about the various heroines. First of all, what do you think of Tsubasa Hanekawa?

Itamura: Itamura is very difficult to portray a character with a smart mind, and it is even more difficult to express it especially when he leaves his troubles to Satoshi like Hanekawa. Through many works such as "Cat Story (Black)", "Ka Monogatari", "Pseudo Monogatari", and "Cat Tale (White)", I think Hanekawa's distress can be said to be fully depicted.

- What about the Bajiuji Maya that ushered in the parting?

Itamura: Maya is a very fun character because every time you change the person in charge of the show, you can see Maya with a different expression. For example, when "Dumping Monogatari" was performed by Mr. Tatsuren (Naosei), there was a mature Maya, and when "Onimonogatari" was performed by Mr. Yase (Yuki), there was a Maya that was both funny and tear-jerking, and thanks to them, there was such a charming Maya.

- The development of the story of Sengoku Nadeshiko is very shocking.

Itamura: "The Tale of the Monogatari" is narrated by Nadeshiko, and Nadeshiko herself should be very clear about what she is thinking and thinking. Mr. Watanabe Akio said, "Nadeshiko is becoming less and less cute," but regardless of her appearance, Nadeshiko's personality has become very innocent and cute from the perspective of Kai Mu in "Fetish Story", and I am looking forward to Nadeshiko's life in the future.

- Oshino Shinobu's past is also involved.

Itamura: Shinobu is a child, and despite her violent side, she is still very cute as the mascot of the calendar. The kissing scene is too powerful, so it is expressed with a 25-meter-long picture scroll like the second episode of "Ghost Story". Speaking of the picture scroll, it was drawn by animator Taiki Konno by himself from the time when he was working on "Cat Story (White)".

- The battlefield has changed.

Itamura: I think it's important to grasp the change in the relationship between Kuroyi, who is usually cold and Kuroyi, who is usually cold, and Kuroyi, who is emotional. "Fetish Story" is based on the dialogue between Bei Mu and Heiyi, but Heiyi will show expressions that she didn't have when talking to Li, and talk about some topics that she won't talk to Li, I think it should show her confused side.

INTERVIEWER How do you feel after the production is completed?

Itamura: This time, I was not the only one who helped me, but Mr. Tatsuwa (Dump Monogatari) and Mr. Yase (Oni Monogatari) as series supervisors, so I felt a lot more relaxed this time, and the artists were exhausted at the end of 2013, so I decided to take a good rest before working towards "Flower Story".
